the driver of that mangled metro bus out of the bus after a lengthy extrication process. a few moments ago, we spoke with one of the passengers on board the bus who told us exactly what happened. >> when i got up, i went to the bus driver and she said the truck cut her off. so after that, all i know is we hit that tree and bang, bang, bang, that's where i am. >> what did it feel like? >> it felt scary. we weren't expecting it. >> i felt the bus sway and then it was like, bang, we just hit. >> once again, one person is confirmed dead. ten others have been taken to the hospital with various injuries after a metro bus collides with at least one other vehicle, perhaps several other vehicles were involved. the cause of the accident at this point is not known. as you can see behind me, emergency crews are very much on the scene and rockville pike just north of nih is closed in both directions and we are told will be closed for some time to

poll released this afternoon shows he and mitt romney tied with 25% of republican voters nationwide. just four weeks ago, gingrich led romney by 15 points. new at 6:00, spotsylvania county suspended a commonwealth attorney after she was charged with a dui. amy harper crashed her suv into the back of another car on salem church road friday night. that led to a three-car pileup. officers charged harper with driving under the influence of alcohol after investigating the accident. now she is off the job until her trial. >> a crime spree that has several residents on edge could soon be coming to an end. police have a hot lead that could potentially bring down a group of burglars targeting houses. ken is live with more. ken, good evening. >> good evening, anita. that lead came in earlier today. we're talking about this woman right here. police say this is 30-year-old patrice joseph. this bull ten went out yesterday. she was wanted for questioning

in burglaries. she wasn't charged, but she was questioned all day by police. >> the burglars have struck about half a dozen times. this home surveillance video shows the first of the string of robberies that began in november. just like in this video, police say the suspects break into houses when no one is home. and they mostly steal electronics, jewelry, and credit cards. sometimes they ransack the house for over an hour. two surveillance cameras caught suspects trying to cash in on their stolen goods. the suspect tries to sell a stolen laptop to employees at a radio shack. and another instance, a different suspect was seen trying to get cash from an atm. now neighbors out here in cheverly are hoping they don't get hit. >> it's unfortunate, but people look for the moments. >> it's unfair, especially when they take advantage of people that are not home. this is not a rich neighborhood. people are struggling just like everywhere else.

>> cheverly police are asking anyone that will help them to give them a call. we are live in cheverly, 9news now. >> hopefully that will get wrapped up. >> man suspect second-degree as the serial slasher in northern virginia fled down to peru. fairfax county police are trying to figure out if johnny can be extradited to stand trial. he arrived in peru a couple weeks ago and he is believed to be in the capital city of lema. police issued a warrant. they believe he is the guy who was using a raiser blade or box cutter to slash nine women in their buttocks while they were out shopping. an update on garage fires. frederick county police have arrested four 16-year-old boys and charged them with arson. investigators believe those are the boys who were using marine flairs to set fires in the two garages in the villages of urbana neighborhood. officers used surveillance video from a nearby wal-mart

showing those boys shoplifting the flairs and that's how they tracked them down. the fires caused an estimated $130,000 worth of damage. and the murder of a popular local rapper shaking fans from his home in while oak, maryland. all the way to nigeria. police are still saying little about the death of franklin amobe. >> in white oak, maryland, where news of the murder of a popular local rapper spread online as far as nigeria. >> yeah. yeah. >> this was the rapper known as frank, seen in locally produced videos on youtube. his life ended at age 24 yesterday. dropping near a bus stop in white oak after being shot while getting into his car at this apartment complex on stewart lane. news of frank's death spread in the rap music community most prominently. where there are thousands of mentions of him. music bloggers in nigeria picked up the news.

amobe's family is nigerian. electronic court records of his numerous brushes with the law. some fans reported digy was turning his life around and pursuing higher education. and most all said he will be dearly missed. in white oak, scott broom, 9news now. tomorrow north korea will hold a national memorial for kim jong-il. today tens of thousands of people braved the cold and snow to line his funeral procession. many of them weeping and falling to the ground. they paid respects to the man called their supreme leader. he ruled north korea for 17 years. the next ruler, his son, north koreaen tv showed him walking along his father's coffin, dabbing tears with his hankerchief. how many parking tickets did you get this year? new figures out today said d.c. issued nearly 2 million of them over the last 14 months. the only other cities with more on record, chicago and new york

both much bigger towns. delia is live in georgetown where a lot of those tickets are issued and annoy a lot of us. delia. >> i know. i've been subject to some of those tickets. not today, thankfully, but we did run into a lot of folks who were very disappointed coming out to their cars. especially here in georgetown, finding out they had a ticket slapped on their windshield and it didn't blow away. you said it, d.c. is much smaller in comparison to new york and chicago. this policy of writing tickets, $1.6 million. even on a windy day, that parking ticket will not blow away. >> we have a problem here. >> aaa mid atlantic says district officers wrote 1.6 million parking tickets in 2011 by may. the city collected $50 million and is on track to far surpass last year's revenue of $80.4
