12:17 pm
it's dry today. it's been cold all morning. and we're still struggling to get out of these 30s. so we're doing our best and the sun is just trying to get through that layer of clouds, but i think the clouds are going to win out for the remainder of the day. here is how we look for your day planner for today. overcast skies are with us to keep. we'll definitely see our temperatures to begin to adjust slightly into the late afternoon, but don't expect too much of an improvement. most of us should make it just above 40 degrees. i'm forecasting about 44, 45 degrees for most of the day today and we will also see the opportunity for some cool down later on tonight as the skies begin to clear just a little bit after the 7:00-hour we'll become partly cloudy as we head into your friday morning. so here is how the forecast is looking for the short-term. satellite and radar gave us a little bit of a break this morning. we had some sunshine coming on through, but right now the clouds are starting to overtake. the precipitation you see out to the west is not making it past the mountains, so we're not expecting any moisture in our forecast for today. we will see a cooler temperature for at least the remainder of
12:18 pm
today and for tonight. but with our southerly wind flow, we're going to see a bit of a warmup as we head into our weekend forecast. fantastic for new year's eve and new year's day. but, yes, at last the cold air will make a return as we head back to work and school on monday. so here is how we're looking across the board right now. temperatures in the 30s. 38 for great fall. about 38 for arlington. you get the picture. we're shy of the 40-degree mark. for most of us it is feeling like the middle 30s at reagan international airport. the winds are out of the south at five miles an hour. future cast wants to bring in a little moisture. it's not making too much forward progress. even into the early morning hours of friday, we still have overcast skies and not too much precipitation making its way in. maybe a possibility for a sprinkle west of the beltway late on friday night. forecast for today should be about 41 for gaithersburg, 47 across manassas but most of us middle range 40s will be the case into the afternoon.
12:19 pm
then for the overnight down into the 30s. chilly start getting up and getting out tomorrow morning, but there is a payoff. by tomorrow afternoon, our temperatures gets back into the 50s. very unusual for this time of year. so in all, the seven-day forecast is looking pretty good. the next three days are not so bad. cool today. 50s tomorrow. and we're still seeing about 50 degrees as we head into saturday and sunday. forecast will feature more of a change as we get into towards the later portions of the week. for the most part, though, i think that the overnight temperatures will start to become a little bit more stationary for us. mainly into those 30s. and we'll definitely see the opportunity for some of that wentery precipitation once -- wintery precipitation once we get back into the first of january. it is now pet line thursday, and joining me here is nicki kavanaugh. who is our guest today?
