worldwide. american marines appearing to urinate on dead taliban fighters. this is 9news now. >> the marine corps has begun to investigate a video that appears to show marines urinating on dead taliban fighters. >> it may damage peace negotiations and put u.s. military men and women at risk of retaliation. gary nurenberg has the video and the story. >> reporter: let's show it to you first keeping it in mind we had to clean it up for broadcast. the video appears to show a sniper team from third battalion second marines based in north carolina urinating in afghanistan on dead bodies described of those as taliban fighters. the men joke throughout the 39 second posting. >> how do you like the shower. >> reporter: the marine corps times reports the military is trying to identify the apparent

marines and will investigate. the council on islamic relations condemn what it calls the desecration of the dead. the marine corps told the associated press the actions portrayed are not consistent with our core values. a navy spokesman called it egregious behavior. but the writer is also hearing another reply. >> one sentiment that we've heard in several remarks is things get pretty tense there. they're under a lot of strain and sort of seem to say you have to show some level of sympathy. you don't maybe -- maybe you don't know exactly what they're going through. >> reporter: they confirmed one of the unique things is issued to military snipers indicating authenticity. if the tape is real -- >> it could be detrimental to the war effort. if it's about winning hearts and minds, it's potential this becomes a very potent recruiting tool for the enemy. >> reporter: the military is

trying to determine the authenticity of the video and if it can identify the marines will likely take some actions against them. times and expectations change. the treatment of enemy dead has not always been stellar in the history of war. i recall one world war ii vet telling me his unit used nazi corpses for target practice. but that was nearly 70 years ago. and as we said, times and expectations change. >> yes, they do. gary nurenberg, we thank you. now, we move on to two frightening home invasions. one possible suspect armed and still out there. >> tonight montgomery county police are looking for a guy they say perpetrated a terrible crime at a home in wheaton and one day later did even worse in bethesda. ken molestina is live where it all happened. ken. >> reporter: yes, you know, what has so many people shocked out here is just how bold the crimes are, and now a strong word of caution is going out to the neighbors. >> so it's the first time i've seen this happening in the neighborhood. >> reporter: this woman was leaving for work when police

began showing up on the block. he returned to hear the details. >> i don't understand why in this house and just today. so hopefully just one shot and not something that is likely to happen once again. >> reporter: this became the scene of a brazen home invasion and robbery. an armed man showed up at the doorstep of this house and forced his way in. the man tied up a house keeper along with another woman and a teenage boy who lived there. just before leaving the place, the housekeeper was sexually assaulted. >> according to police, when the two suspects were done inside, they came out here to the driveway. they took the keys to the housekeeper's suv. they got inside it and took off down the street. >> it's more serious and we have not had a home invasion robbery in bethesda in i can't even remember when the last one was. >> reporter: here is a picture of the suspect taken at a cvs pharmacy in the district. he used a credit card from the victim here. neighbors were left horrified by the crime. >> i don't know if someone can

recover their trust after something like this. it's very scary for all of us to know we're not safe. >> reporter: police are linking this home invasion to a similar incident in wheaton on tuesday. a woman on the 2900-block of mcman road was robbed when a man walked into the garage and took her cash and atm card. the suv he stole from the housekeeper was a gray ford expedition. it had maryland tags on it 4 ae 7450. the suv has a mick daniels sticker -- mcdaniels college sticker in the window. if you see this suv, call the police immediately. do not approach the suspect. they believe he is armed and dangerous. the housekeeper that was sexually assaulted, no one has been hurt in the crimes. ken molestina, 9news now. >> thank you. the center for disease control is warning about everyone of a new strain of swine flu.

the biggest worries this year's vaccinations don't fight it. the cdc says most of the people had direct contact with farm animals. what is not known is how easily this strain can spread person to person. they're still investigating that. of course, back between 2009 and 2010, more than 17,000 people died from the highly contagious h1n1 swine flu strain. well, the heavy rains caused headaches for anybody who had to be out there tonight driving or otherwise. and right now it is still coming down. >> it sure is. topper shutt joins us outside on the weather terrace. hopefully this is over by the time folks head out tomorrow morning. >> i think it will be. the heaviest rain is occurring right now. let me show you live doppler 9000. this is pretty heavy activity through now what is up a little bit now from prince william county but mainly fairfax county and loudoun county up into frederick county and into the panhandle of west virginia. that is rainfall rates almost an inch an hour and it's going to

july of 2010 displaying the staples right there on his torso, a reminder that doctors had safed his life. the video was recorded by a community activist and counselor who says he saw robinson just hours before the young man was killed. >> it is crazy because i just saw him. he came over and shot basketball. he shook my hand. >> now, we are told that robinson had had some trouble in the past but was trying to turn his life around. he had a full-time job and was going to school at night. police are offering a reward of 25,000 bucks for any information in robinson's murder. cold, alone and crying. that is how u.s. park police found a toddler at the occupy dc protest campsite today. officers found the 13-month-old little girl inside a tent around 10:00 this morning. police think she was left alone for at least 30 minutes. a man claiming to be her father approached police who then arrested and charged him with attempted second degree cruelty

to children. emergency crews checked out the little girl and say she is in good condition. an update tonight on plans for a new development in prince william county. we told you last night about the oak street project in aquaqan. the county is giving the county the development to go ahead even though opponents say it will lead to more flooding. a political activist planned to take down dc mayor vincent gray and kwame brown is starting to get serious. they both have betrayed the public trust. now, both men are under federal investigations for their 2010 campaign. they say they have done nothing wrong and they have 10 days now to submit a formal response to the recall effort. after that, butler will have 180 days to get all of the signatures he needs. that is signatures from 10% of the registered voters in dc. well, former prince george's

county prosecutor glenn ivey will not be running for congress. he announced today he's dropping out of the race because he was having trouble raising enough money. he was trying to take on donna edwards for the democratic nomination. edwards still faces two other democrats in the primary, but neither are as well known as ivey. tonight bob mcdonald delivered the state of the commonwealth address. mcdonald asked the general assembly to join him in joining a more efficient and effective state government. he also asked them to tackle some key issues. >> now, listen, i can't ask you to fix every problem in the short time that we have together this session, but i can ask you to fix some big ones. we must do more to spur private sector job creation. we must reform our pension system now so that it will be there for the hundreds of thousands of virginians depending on it. >> mcdonald also asked lawmakers

described as excessively strict laws governing chicken farming. >> this is becoming more popular and tonight a debate at a university. matt jablow has details. >> you start with a good egg and you can't go wrong. >> reporter: tom carter loves eating eggs. all kinds. >> i've recently learned how to cook with them. >> reporter: he is now hoping to raise chickens in his back yard so fresh eggs will always be available to him and his family. >> if you feed them properly, the eggs will be much healthier than what you get at the grocery store. >> reporter: he is one of the leaders of the arlington egg projects, a group of residents now hatching a plan to make it easier for people to raise their own chicken in arlington. tonight carter was making his case for back yard chickens during the monthly meeting of the arlington committee of 100. an influential community organization. >> it's a combination of health concerns, nutrition concerns, environmental concerns. >> reporter: the way the law is written now in arlington county, a person needs about a half an acre of a back yard in order to raise their own
