his first ad going to hit the airwaves today. the new york times poll of registered voters finds the president leads all potential opponents except mitt romney whom he ties. republican candidates are set to debate tonight in south carolina. and terrell brown is in washington with more on the president and the south carolina primary. good morning, terrell. >> reporter: betty, good morning to you. one of the topics that we'll likely see tonight is mitt romney's wealth. on top of immediately releasing the tax records, he also admitted he has part of millions invested in an off shore account. this couldn't come at a worse time and another candidate is gaining ground. mitt romney is fighting to hang to his lead in south carolina. >> i will repeal obama care and get us back to free market principles. >> he tried to fire up voters at a rally before launching into an attack against newt gingrich. >> him taking credit for the jobs in the reagan years is like

voters in two different states today. he'll visit florida before going to new york city on a fundraising blitz. meanwhile, newt gingrich could have another problem today. an interview with his second wife will air tonight as a part of his past, could turn off religious voters. betty in? >> terrell washington in washington. thank you. the final certified results from the iowa caucuses are expected to be released today. immediately after the vote, the republican party in iowa announced that mitt romney was the winner by just eight votes over rick santorum. discrepancies were discovered and when all is said and done, santorum may end up the winner. formter candidate herman cain plans to make an announcement. he's speaking today at the southern republican leadership conference in south carolinament cain told msnbc his endorsement would be "unconventional."

president obama's ad defends his policies. the ad follows the decision by administration to -- that decision is creating a stir on the campaign trail. shaban has our report. >> the proposed pipeline would have stretched across six states linking western canada to refineries on the texas coast. president obama rejected it. saying he felt rushed to make a decision because of an arbitrary deadline set by republicans for the plan. environmentalists rejected it. >> it's not enough time. we don't have an alternate route identified yet. how could anyone possibly review it. >> both parties agreed to a february 21st deadline as part of last month aes deal to extend the payroll tax cut. fallout over the president's rejection is spilling on to the campaign trail. >> this is a stunningly stupid thing to do. we need the jobs.

hershey's drops. a lot of hershey's happiness in little drops of milk chocolate. and cookies n creme. pure hershey's. well, the big snowstorm has come and gone in seattle. but it freed kids from school yesterday and city streets, they became playgrounds of sorts. wind driven snow caused havoc on pacific northwest highways. there were injuries, but no deaths reported. the snow combined with rain today has local officials concerned about icy roads and possible flooding. the snowstorm moved over the mountains to spokane and points east. if you use wikipedia, the online encyclopedia, you'll be glad to know it's back and running today after a 24-hour shutdown. wikipedia and hundreds of other

sites were protesting bills in congress they say would limit free speech and impose kren shore sip on the internet. that wasn't just online. there were also street dem snagss in san francisco, new york. it appears to be working. four senate republicans who co-sponsored the bill have withdrawn support. many artists, film companies, including cbs, support the legislation to protect themselves from online piracy. but critics say the bills go too far. on the cbs money watch, a massive insider trading ring is busted. and iphone users, get ready for a possible hike in data plans. ashley morrison has more. >> good morning, betty. in overseas trading stocks in asia extended gains. the nikkei rose more than 1% hitting a five-week closing high while hong kong's hang seng added more than 1%. today we'll get the earnings report for the nation's biggest

bank, bank of america. it announces fourth quarter profits before the opening bell. on wednesday stocks finished at the highest level since july. the dow added 96 points and the nasdaq gained 41. eastman kodak filed for bankruptcy. that happened early this morning. the company has obtained a $950 million line of credit from citigroup to keep it going as it reorganizes its business. kodak has struggled to remain competitive as digital photography has become more prevalent. it's not posted an annual profit since 2007. federal authorities charge seven people with running a $78 million insider trading ring. prosecutors say a dell computer employee passed along inside company information that made it to several hedge funds. it will be the largest transaction ever prosecuted in manhattan. it's news that some iphone and ipad users don't want to

here's a look at the weather this some cities around the countriment new york, sunshine, 36 degrees. miami partly sunny, 78. chicago snow, 21. dallas, it's going to be sunny. 68 degrees. sunny in l.a. as well, 66. time for a check of the national forecast. heavy snow will fall in eastern washington, idaho and western montana. snow turns to rain along the northwest coast, reaching into central california. arctic cold with sub zero temperatures will stretch from montana to minnesota. great lakes snow will move into the northeast and new england. in the south, conditions will be moderate from coast to coast.

in sports, new york giants quarterback eli manning is under the weather. giants fans, well, they're feeling a bit queasy about it. with the nfc championship game against the 49ers coming up sunday, manning missed part of wednesday's practice. coach tom coughlin called it a stomach bug and adds that he hopes it's just a 24-hour deal. to the nba, in a hard fought game in atlanta. portland's raymond felton drove to craig smith for a third period layup. giving the trailblazers a lead. it stayed tight. joe johnson got a three-pointer on his way to 24 points in the gamement then a steal back and a lob for the alley oop dunk you see there. atlanta won it, 92-89. the magic and the spurs in an overtime battle as san antonio's gary neal drilled a three-pointer for the lead.

anderson missed a last chance three and j.j. redick shot a little too late. they won the first round game of the season, 85-83. in college hoops, 13th ranked yukon at home against cincinnati. the bearcats led much of the game but yukon hit a three-pointer to tie the game with less than ten seconds to play. it wasn't enough. cincinnati kilpatrick answered with a three of his own and the bearcats won it 70-67. finally, every athlete gets a bit frustrated at times. but take a look at this. during a break at the australian open, marcos baghdad i of cypress took his fury out on his racket. after reduce that one to junk, pro seeded to smash three more still in wrappers. two of them were. needless to say, he lost the match and he was fined $1200. that's not a good bay to go out. when we return, boeing's

here's a look at the weather in some cities around the country today. washington, d.c., sun and clouds. 44. atlanta, mostly sunny, 57. detroit, some morning snow, 27. denver, partly sunny, 56. and seattle is going to be 36 degrees. wichita, kansas, is still trying to regroup after boeing announced it was shutting down its factory there. it used to be that one out of every five planes manufactured in the u.s. was built in wichita. folks there think they've been double crossed. jim axelrod reports. >> reporter: boeing produced planes in wichita since the 1920s. employing generations of workers

like ted bates, an engineer for 34 years. you feel grateful for a career at boeing? >> yes. yes. >> but now employees are shaking their heads at how boeing's treated their hometown. >> you lose respect for those people who can't keep a consistent story. it's not just about employees. it's about a community. >> reporter: in 2008, boeing asked kansas officials to help win a $3.5 billion contract for 18 air force tankers. wichita's mayor, carl brewer says kansas had a long history of coming through for boeing. >> they've received $650 million in tax breaks over the last 30 years. >> that is an awful lot of money. we thought that that really meant something. >> brewer and the kansas congressional delegationxd lobbd the pentagon hard. in return, boeing promised the tanker work would be kept in wichita, saving 2100 jobs and creating 7500 more. >> and somebody looked you right

in the eye and said, we're going to be in wichita? >> going to be in wichita and it's going to be just like it's been for the past 84 years. >> all that lobbying paid off. boeing was awarded the $3.5 billion contract last february. no one here heard another word until november when boeing suddenly announced it was rethinking its plans. the company decided production costs in wichita are were too high. it was moving the tanker work to other u.s. plants and closing the wichita operation next year. >> do you feel duped? >> well, you can't help but feel that way because by 2013, i'll have 2100 workers that are out there that are trying to figure out what's going to happen in the future. >> plus 7500 jobs that never came here. >> plus 7500 jobs that will not come here. >> brewer, who worked for boeing for 20 years, would love an

explanation from his old company. trouble is, no one is returning his calls. jim axelrod, cbs news, wichita, kansas. the transportation security administration has apologized to two ailing elderly women who say they were strip-searched by tsa agent at new york's kennedy airport. the women say that is not good enough. in a letter, a homeland security official missed tsa screeners violated some standard procedures. it goes on to say "there is no evidence to support the claims that tsa employees conducted strip searches of any passengers." that angers 88-year-old ruth schar man and le more sdplimer man who is 85. >> i think it's a lie they didn't ask you to remove any clothing. because they did. they strip-searched me. >> it's a lie. that's all i can tell you. not much else i can say.

clouds. then we're look at more showers arriving for the weekend. here's monika with your traffic. good morning. >> good morning, everybody. if you're planning to head around town, you're going to find that mostly the roads are clear. no big issues to report. a little bit of overnight construction. yep, even in this cold weather here in tysons on the beltway at route 123. be aware of that. that should be clearing shortly. also, had word of a water main break on the inbound side of new york avenue right here at montana. it did cause some icy conditions. i know crews were out there trying to treat the roadway inbound new york avenue at montana in northeast. we'll take a look at 270. no problems to report here at shady grove road. let's go back out to the maps over to 95 in virginia on the northbound side. take a live look in springfield. we're looking good here from newington to the beltway. more on area roadways coming up at 4:39. andrea and mike? >> thanks, monika. republican presidential candidates are running out of time if they want to catch up with front-runner mitt romney.
