north and west of town. officially at national 34, but 30 in manassas and gaithersburg and this is kind of troubling because the air mass is very dry. so temps will fall even farther when we get precipitation falling. 27 in hagerstown, 28 in martinsburg and winchester. the entire metro area is under a winter weather advisory from 9 p.m. tonight through saturday at 1 p.m. which makes perfect sense. even southern maryland will get an initial shot of mixed precipitation. in terms of the ice accumulation, we're getting more and more concerned about it because the cold air is a little stronger and deeper. we could see a 1/4-inch of ice from manassas towards d.c. and out toward culpeper and even .1- inch towards gaithersburg and even ice on 95 towards frederickburg. so we're concerned about the icing on the trees and also the power lines. satellite picture radar combined, i know it looks like it's snowing overhead. it's not. it's just evaporating. all the precipitation is back to the west, so the rest of the evening rush hour is fine.
