snow. keep them coming. here is the deal. it's not going to be a snow. it's going to be a sleet and freezing rain event. the only good news, i think the sleet may actually cut down on the icing. that's good. a live look at the terrace. we already have a coating. very dry, fine snow. and here is a live look out with the weather cam. if you look you can kind of see it's obscured a little bit. that's the snow if you look at the spot there. see the spotlights. you can see the snow falling and this is our live weather cam brought to you by michael and son. okay. well, temperature wise, 28 now at national. we talked about this. how dry the air was. the surface temperature will fall and meet the dew point. the dew point is now 23. the temperature is now 28 at national. it's going to be very hard to scour the cold air out tomorrow. 28 in great falls. 27 in reston and sterling. even 26 in lateenzville. here is a look at live doppler.

this is all primarily snow. it will stay snow for another hour or so and gradually turn over to sleet and freezing rain. i think it's going to be a prolonged period of rain which will cut down on the icing. a trace of snow from dc and south. and we could see an inch or two from leesburg up towards frederick. we talked about a little accumulation before the changeover. temperatures will be below 32 all morning. dc north and west. we're not going to be able to scour out this cold air that fast. and because we'll have some breaks in the clouds saturday night, we're going to have some slick spots saturday night. so some of this will refreeze again. here is the deal. tomorrow morning 6:00 a.m., you see the pink or the magenta, that indicates sleet or freezing rain. it encompasses most of charles county and prince george's county. you folks will get a change over pretty early. but by noon the good news is it pushes away pretty quickly. much of the activity left down to the south. once we get to the morning, it's the bulk of the precipitation. the bad news is, we're going to
1:58 am
be below freezing during the bulk of the precipitation. now, by tomorrow night, we get some breaks in the clouds, again, which is good and bad because it will allow us to cool off and then by sunday morning the clouds come back. so we'll start with some sun on sunday and then we'll see the clouds return. icing, we're still a little bit concerned. not as concerned as i was earlier. maybe more sleet and freezing rain. a tenth of an inch to 1300ths to 700ths inch of ice in the metro area. all right. snowfall, again, a little bit. maybe three tenths of an inch downtown. maybe an inch in gaithersburg and maybe an inch or inch and a half up in frederick. but, again, not a snowstorm. so overnight snow changes to sleet and freezing rain. lows 28-32. lows easterly at about 10. and then we look at critical hours between now and 10:00 a.m. sleet will cut down the icing. dc north and west some icing. 1-2 tenths accumulating ice. gaithersburg and leesburg will be below freezing not just all morning but all day tomorrow.
