send politics up there. >> reporter: the candidates make their final push. susan mcginnis, cbs news, florida. along with retiring older planes and trimming war costs, the proposal calls for reducing ground forces by about 100,000. defense secretary leon panetta insists a leaner force doesn't mean the u.s. will be less prepared to handle multiple nets the ned -- threats if needed. the state of virginia has reached a settlement. under the $2 billion agreement, virginia will phase out most of its care centers scattered across the state. the centers have been criticized as being nothing more than bare houses for people with -- warehouses for people with disabilities. from now on the state will boost funding and services aimed at letting people with disables remain in -- disabilities remain in their

local communities. its turned into a police involved shooting. >> it began around 7:20 yesterday afternoon near the 400 block of pond street. police say two men were in a car which was pulled over when a shot was fired from an officer's weapon. one of the men was struck and is being treated at a local hospital. the second man in the vehicle ran away from the scene and police are still looking for him. there's no word why the officer fired the weapon. a former prince george's county correctional officer has been indicted for his alleged role in the death of ronnie white. >> white died in 2008 inside his jail cell just two days after being arrested for allegedly killing a police officer. matt jablow has more on this development. >> reporter: on june 27th, 2008, 19-year-old ronnie white was arrested for the hit and run death of richard finley. the death that sparked an outpouring of grief and anger.

>> just hard to take in. >> reporter: two days later white was found unresponsive in his cell but the prince george's county jail and was pronounced dead an hour later after being taken to the hospital. >> he was murdered. >> reporter: that was the attorney for ronnie white's family speaking a few years ago. the medical examiner did in fact eventually rule that homicide by strangulation was the cause of white's death but nobody has ever been charged in connection with the case. >> he was absolutely murdered in his jail cell. >> reporter: until today when a three count federal indictment was filed against anthony mcintosh, the corrections officer who found white in his cell. according to the indictment, mcintosh's failure to provide medical care when he saw white was in need of help resulted in white's death. it also charges that mcintosh covered up the circumstances surrounding his discovery of and response to ronnie white's medical emergency. matt jablow, 9news now. >> if convicted, mcintosh could

face life in prison. later today police are expected to remove a body from a well in fort washington. someone called police and tipped them to the location in the 11,900 block of old port road. officers lowered a camera down into the well and that's where they found the remains. they haven't released anymore information about the victim. no official word as to what alexandria police's role in this investigation. there's no word if charges will be filed against a griefer who hit a woman democrats nigh. the pedestrian was trapped underneath the car. she did suffer life-threatening injuries and they don't know if she was in a crosswalk at the time of the accident. convicted killer brittany norwood is scheduled to be sentenced this afternoon in rockville. a jury convicted her of first degree murder in the death of her co-worker jayna murray. norwood bludgeoned murray inside the lululemon store in

bethesda last march. prosecutors want the judge to sentence her to life in prison with no chance of parole. her family is asking the judge to leave open the pocket she might get out -- possibility she might get out one day. the marine corps museum in quantico and other military targets during a hearing thursday prosecutors played video and audio recorded by yonathan melaku prior to the shooting. he agreed to a 25 year sentence in the case. he's scheduled to be formally financed on april -- sentenced on april 27th. at 4:34, nearly 12,000 people packed an arena at penn state for memorial service to football coach joe paterno. he died last sunday. former penn state football players spoke of paterno's commitment tot game, to -- to the game, to his team and to the university but also spoke about paterno's emphasis on education and preparing his players for a future after football. the southern environmental law center is out with its

financial collapse of 2008 is getting a fresh look. the justice department started a new fraud fighting unit. it brings together 55 prosecutors and federal and state investigators who plan on focusing on the collapse of residential mortgage backed securities. attorney general eric holder and other officials will unveil details about the new unite later today -- unit later today. the president talked about the unit in the state of the union address on tuesday night. if you live in maryland, you may get some extra inspiration if you download angry birds to your smart phone in the coming months. the reason why? the "washington examiner" reports the state wants to charge you a 6% sales tax on virtually every downloaded product like apps for your phone. maybe that makes you angry. the tax comes from the obscure provision in governor o'malley's proposed budget. a 99-cent downloaded song from itunes would then cost you $1.06. the few exceptions here, gift certificates and gift cards wouldn't be taxed.

knock that down a peg or two over the next few days. we start you off with a look at the bus stop forecast as we always do. scattered showers, big temperature range. there's still a little wedge of cold air hanging on off in the northern shenandoah valley and parts of northern maryland. but they're in the 40s, other areas in the low 60s. i know it's crazy but sunrise 7:19 and grab the rain grier. you'll need hit morning but midday and that front comes through, it's going to start toddler out and look at the wind speeds. west at 20 and south at 16, becoming northwest at 21 and by 4:00 you'll feel the chill returning, 54 and by 8:00 we're back in the 40s and we're going into the 30s tonight. but we will be clearing i think toward midday and certainly clear for the afternoon. here we are this morning, look at the showers that are streaming here. you can see this thin line coming through west virginia and western maryland. that is the front. it's been a little lightning with that and some gusty winds, maybe 30, 40 miles per hour mixings down to the surface but no warnings right now. but we're going to show you

live doppler 9000 hd with the scattering of showers and there's that thin line to the southeast of cumberland just west of virginia. a few showers now we're watching on the south and southeast sides of the mote rehere. it could -- metro here. prince george's county, southern charles, fairfax. this one cluster of showers and you can see it to about national airport now. so if you're coming up 95, 395, you're going to run into the wet roads there. they're also on 301 from clinton down to waldorf and la plata and a heftier cell we're watching. this one just might produce a little lightning and thunder. this one is approaching madison right now, boston, culpeper, summeryville, all moving in this direction and maybe in the next 20, 30 minutes you'll see this but certainly with the yellows and oranges, we know there's very heavier rains that are falling from this particular cell. then we still have the front to go there you. so yeah we're going to be busy around here for the next four to six hours the way it looks.

alzheimer's disease. researchers at temple university found the protein is very active in the brains o of people who suffer from the memory loss disease. the hope is to one day develop a way to block that protein from ever reaching the brain. these days many people have to work long hours to make ends meet. but pulling doubles is causing some employees to be down in the dumps. researchers found workers who worked about 11 hours a day were about two and a half times more likely to develop depression than those who clocked out after seven or eight hours. top level employees didn't have the same issue because they have more control over their schedules the study found. job insecurity and sleep deprivation may explain the increased risk of depression. there are some jobs that are more depression prone than others, topping the list -- they spend days taking care of others who don't always know
