expect. >> reporter: no doubt brittany norwood will be sentenced to life behind bars. but the judge today will decide if she should be granted parole. norwood's father had pleaded to the court writing the judge asking for mercy saying his daughter deserves a chance of parole after 25 years. prosecutors say her victim, jayna murray, never had a chance, lured back to the store by norwoodment she was brutally attacked. stabs 331 times alive for each of the blows. her plea for mercy ignored by the murderers say they. in fact several people in the apple store next door heard unusual noises that night but never acted on them. brood proceed who pretended obama a -- brittany norwood who pretended to be a victim herself was later arrested. whether or not brittany norwood can be rehabilitated and safely reenter society will likely determine if the judge will grant parole. our andrea mccarren has been the lead reporter on the story from the very beginnings of

he's in the courtroom and will have an update as soon as possible. flush flush in rock -- possible. in rockville, delia goncalves, 9news now. >> you can get updates on the afternoon's sentencing by going to our website. wusa9.com and of course we'll have full details on 9news now beginning at 5:00 p.m. a suspect is in custody after a police involved shooting. it started last night at a traffic stop in northeast washington. officers pulled over a car on pond street near anacostia avenue. and somehow, the officer ended up firing at least one shot. there were two men inside the car, one man ran away, the other was hit but was not seriously injured. one officer also suffered a minor injury. the incident is still being investigated. today, a former guard at the prince george's county jail is making his first court appearance.

48-year-old anthony mcintosh was arrested yesterday in new york. he faces several rights' charges related to the 2008 death of jail inmate ronnie white. white was found unresponsive in his cell just days after the 19- year-old was arrested in the hit and run murder of county police officer richard finley. white died a short time later. the coroner ruled white's cause of death was homicide by strangulation. mcintosh is accused of failing to assist white or notify anyone of his distress. as well as covering up the circumstances of what happened in white's jail cell. prince george's county police may not be able to remove a body found down a well in fort washington. a tip led officers to old fort road near windjammer court yesterday. police lowered a camera into the well where they saw the

remains. there's no word yet on a possible identity -- or how the person died. but engineers are still doing preparation work and police are waiting for permission to bring heavy digging equipment onto the property. alexandria city police also showed up at the scene but they did not tell us why they were there. doctors are trying to save dozens of people wounded in a suicide bombing this morning in baghdad, iraq. the bomber detonated a taxicab that was full of explosives near a funeral procession. at least 31 people were killed and more than 60 others injured. authorities say that the bomber may have intended to blow up the cab outside a nearby police station. the escalating violence is threatening a power sharing agreement between sunni, shiites and kurdish political leaders. after a lively debate in jacksonville, florida, the republican presidential

hopefuls are focusing on immigration ahead of tuesday's primary. meanwhile, president obama is wrapping up a three day campaign style swing promoting his new economic plans. randall pinkston reports. >> reporter: mitt romney and newt gingrich are back on the campaign trail shaking hands and trying to win the backing of florida's 1.5 million hispanic gop voters. both are speaking at a hispanic conference and bracing for questions about their fiery exchanges over immigration thursday night. gingrich took a shot at romney's record. >> he still the most antiimmigrant candidate? >> i think of the four of us, yes. >> reporter: the former massachusetts governor struck back hard. >> my father was born in mexico. my wife's father was born in wales. the idea that i'm antiimmigrant is repulsive. >> reporter: gingrich's lead in florida is over. he slipped nine points behind romney just days before the

primary. president obama is on the final leg of a three day, five state swing, visiting the university of michigan. he's pushing a new plan to make college more affordable. >> the bottom is that in a economy that's built to last means we keep doing everything we can to bring down the cost of college. >> reporter: it appears ready to collage the gop hopefuls, trying to convince voters they're promoting old ideas that failed in the past. randall pinkston, cbs news, the white house. >> that's where house democrats are holding their annual retreat. the president will deliver the keynote address before the conference wraps up. this morning another part of jack johnson sepiment was handed out. the -- johnson's punishment was handed out. the former executive pled guilty to corruption charges. well last month johnson was sentenced to more than seven years in prison. and this morning, a maryland

court ordered that johnson be disbarred from practicing law. johnson has served as state's attorney before being elected as a county executive. the proposal to repeal the so-called king's dominion law died in the virginia state senate. right now public schools are not allowed to start before labor day unless they receive a waiver. the senate's health and education committee killed the bill yesterday after heavy lobbying by the tourism industry. a house version of the bill, however, is still alive. a piece of coffee history here in washington, d.c. is closing on sunday. the oldest starbucks on the east coast located on wisconsin avenue and it's near the national cathedral. it's been here since 1993. shopping center where it is located is undergoing renovations. starbucks plans on reopening a new store when the renovations

are completed. and another fast food restaurant is jumping on the breakfast bandwagon. this week, taco bell is introducing a breakfast menu. at about 800 of its restaurants. it hopes to take its breakfast burritos and hash browns nationwide by 2014. breakfast has become the most important meal of the day for restaurants. it accounts for nearly all of the industry's growth in the past five years. coming up ahead on 9news now at noon, our warmer weather is causing a bird problem in some neighborhoods. we'll have details about that. also, hundreds of new cars are on display at the washington auto show. we'll be right back.

every day through sunday, february5th. tickets for adults are $12, youngsters age 6 to 12 are charged $5, and $2 off for seniors or military personnel. on tuesday, all active duty and retired military will get in free with valid identification. and thursday, it will be 50% off for any student with valid identification. by the way, you have just a few hours left to pay those old parking tickets in washington, d.c. without a penalty. this involves tickets that were handed out before january 1st, 2010. parking tickets, red light camera tickets, moving violations and speed camera tickets are eligible. the amnesty program has brought in about $3 million so far. but that's well below what officials had hoped for. and the program ends at the close of business today. metro is moving forward with its plans to hike fares.

on thursday, the metro board set applique hear sog that -- up public hearing so that you could weigh in on the issuement the board wants the hike the fare up to $2.10. maximum fare up to $5.75. it would do away with the peak of the peak surcharge. but metro's board wants to create a flat fare for anyone using paper fare cards. $6 at rush hour and $4 all other times. we have a commuter alert for metro riders this weekend because starting tonight at 10:00, there's going to be a closure on the red line. no service between dupont circle and van ness. that part of the red line will stay closed through sunday night. shuttle buses however will beyou around the closure. also work on the blue and orange lines downtown. trains will single track between mcpherson square and

see in garrett county, 32 at oakland. the colder air is coming in and they're going to switch over to snow showers. locally if the 50s now in loudoun county to low 60s in fairfax. 61 at national. college park, 64. and fort belvoir, 65 degrees. incredible. excuse me. and looking outside. still a couple of neat clouds hanging out behind the capitol dome there on the michael & son weather camera there with 61. had aspirin account reported -- a sprinkle reported at reagan national but not much of one. west north west winds a sign that the rain has pushed through. but mid 50s for january is way up there and the barometer -- if you're sensitive to big pressure changes i am sorry. we will get some big ones as this storm system pulls away and right behind it a little clipper coming through the midwest. you can see the snow and wintry mix on the clouds with that. that's going to be pushing in through the mountains tonight and tomorrow. oh this tickle in my throat. this could be a tough weather cast to get through right? here's a little snow in

northwestern pennsylvania and western new york as the storm system pulls away. storm one is pulling away with the mountain snow showers that will be around for the evening and get things going pretty good for the ski areas going out west tomorrow or sunday for skiing. then this next little system is going to come through, throw a few clouds our way tomorrow but still a partly to mostly sunny day but look in the afternoon the snow showers kick up. once again, for tomorrow night so that by sunday, ski areas should be in good shape. with the colder air moving in. we'll be in the 50s tomorrow and only in the 40s sunday. and then yet another little clipper is going to quickly move across region here sunday afternoon with yet more snow showers and even colder air behind that. it looks like sundays -- mondayics cause me will be one of the colder days we'll see in a while but for the most part, you know, that's it. as far as the rainfall, well, we've seen it. the all leaving and i'm not expecting much additional to be pushing through. let's talk about the forecast then for the afternoon. we'll have temperatures in the low 60s over the next couple of

hours then dropping toward the low 50s by 5:00 p.m. tonight we're down in the 30s and some of the winds today out of the northwest could gust out 20, 30 miles per hour. 56 tomorrow, still breezy and colder on sunday as the next front pushes through. monday the coldest day on the seven day at 40. by tuesday look how quickly we rebounds into the low 50s. wednesday upper 50s and by thursday 54 with a chance of showers. stick around, we're going to the kitchen -- oh it looks good there that cake i want some. 9news now at noon returns in just a moment.
