deliberate, cold-blooded. some of the words an angry judge threw a convicted killer before sending her to prison and essentially throwing away the key. norwood, the young woman who killed coworker, jayna murray at the lumulemon store in bethesda back in march. sentencing today, behind bars, life behind bars, no shot at parole, ever. our kristen fisher has the story. >> no doubt the biggest surprise was the fact that brittany norwood for the first time addressed the court and apologized to both families. the judge was simply scathing in his response, told her, ma'am, you are one hell of a liar before sentencing her to life in prison without the possibility of parole. >> it was absolutely the right sentence under maryland law. >> jayna murray's father spoke out minutes after learning that his daughter's kill e brittany norwood, would spend the rest of her life in jail. after hours of testimony, the

murray family left the courthouse knowing norwood got the sentence they asked for, but it doesn't make the death of their daughter any easier. >> there's aspects of this death that i cannot accept and i guess until i somehow can get over the pain and suffering that i know my daughter went through. my unconscious will not let go of it. >> the norwood family equally emotional in court didn't stop to talk to the press. but defense attorney, doug wood, did give this assessment of his clients. >> very upset. she's very troubled. i do think she wanted to get it over with. i don't think she wanted to put her family through this anymore. >> the defense argued for life in prison with the possibility of parole. they didn't get it, and now they say they'll appeal. but for the murray family, what they want is for people to remember jayna for how she leved and not for how she died. >> it's hard to imagine the pain and suffering she endured

and not hate that. i mean, i hate the pain that she went through. i hate the person that inflicted it. >> now the judge also noted what he called the callus indifference of the people at the adjacent apple store who heard those cries for help and did nothing. murray's family is considering pushing good samaritan legislation, which would compel people by law to report a crime in progress. in rockville, i'm kristin fisher, 9news now. it looks like arizona avenue will soon reopen after being closed for several hours earlier today. a tree fell down between mcarthur boulevard after 3:00 this afternoon. causing major headaches for drivers. crews have now removed it and are cleaning up around that area. they say the road will be reopened in about another 30 minutes at 11:30. when you think of prowrestling, you think of the flashy showmanship. you may not realize how dangerous the sport really is. a 25-year-old from district

heights recently died after training at a local wrestling facility. lindsey mastis spoke with his family tonight. >> he died doing what he wanted to do. >> quinton washington wanted to be a wrestler since he was a child. his parents say he joined gilbert's prowrestling academy so he could pursue his dream. but last thursday, something went terribly wrong while practicing a wrestling move. >> whether you run and i guess you fall back. >> washington hit his head hard. >> he fell and he has seen like he was disoriented. he was winded. >> washington's mom says she learned her son went back into the ring, but soon he passed out and even started vomiting. he was transported to the hospital where he went into surgery. by the time his mother arrived, doctors said he was brain dead. >> the end result, my son's brain was basically coming out the opposite side of his head. >> there's no indication of foul play nor suspicious

circumstances. they are closed on fridays and we were unable to get ahold of anyone on the phone here at the prowrestling academy. >> i had one call from the owner who was in arizona and said he was sorry. >> family says they plan to pursue legal action and washington's father, robert, wants to change the law. >> i believe that any training facility that deal with wrestling should have a medical personnel on staff at all times. >> in anne arundel county, i'm lindsey mastis, 9news now. >> washington graduated in 2006 from suitland high school and he leaves behind a younger brother. an update now on that body found in a well in fort washington. the prince georges county police department says they will start the excavation for that body tomorrow morning. they expect to have the remains extracted by sunday night. now this well is 20 feet deep and authorities say without sufficient shiewrg up, it could collapse on the recovery efforts. well, in recent days, police have raided half a dozen businesses up and down

rockville pike focusing on prostitution operations that advertise as spas. one hosted doctors, lawyers, and computer businesses, but also had three alleged prostitution rings. investigators say the operators take advantage of women who are in desperate circumstances. >> the owners really are targeting a certain type of women. a type of women who don't have ties to the community or need financial help. >> police say they were tipped off to all of this by a dramatic increase in internet advertising for accupressure and massage in the rockville area. a virginia man face up to a year in jail for using a stuffed dolphin like this to stalk his exgirlfriend. police say 41-year-old jordan of alexandria and the victim have a young daughter. they put a gps in the toy and gave it to the child so he could track her mom. the woman found the device along with a nasty note sewn

into the toy directed at her. officers say jordan threatened to kill his exin person and over the phone. he has been convicted of stalking. >> it's happened again. metro apliejed to apologize. this time for stranding passengers all along the entire rail system last night for an hour. the power stopped and that shut down communications. metro workers were out on the tracks upgrading rails. without radio communication, metro had to stop the trains for safety sake. >> not being able to communicate that to customers leads to uncertainty, leads to confusion. leads to frustration and leads to anger. all of those things are understandable. there's no question we need to do a better job in the future. >> next month, metro plans to roll out a new alert system that should let riders know what's going on even if there's another power failure like this one. >> we are not evicting

mcpherson, the occupiers under any circumstances unless there's some sort of major health or emergency. >> but now, two days later, that is not necessarily the case. the u.s. park police say occupy protesters living in mcpherson square and freedom plaza need to leave by monday or risk getting arrested. fliers went up today informing demonstrators of the ban. the move comes after republican law make res question why camping has been allowed there since october. the park service said the protesters were holding 24 hour vigils, which are allowed, but the camps need to move by monday at noon. >> mitt romney and newt gingrich will spend their weekend battling out for a win in florida. so much at stake here. they are hoping to court hispanic voters in the sunshine state. at a conference today, romney and gingrich continued the immigration debate they started last night. gingrich says he supports stricter border control, faster deportation proceedings and a guest worker program for

certain immigrants. romney says if he's elected, he would expand legal immigration and bring commitment to the issue. >> those people who come here illegally should be able to given a temporary status. a temporary work permit if you will, but the end of a temporary period, they would return home. >> this is where i had a deep disagreement with governor romney. the idea that grandmother is not going to be supported. the idea that she's going to self-deport, this is a fantasy. >> rick santorum and ron paul trailing in the polls have little to gain in florida, where the winner gets delegates. santorum is going home to pennsylvania for the weekend. paul is campaigning in maine. when jack johnson gets out of prison, he will not practice law in maryland. today the state disbarred the former prince georges county executive. johnson was sentenced seven years behind bars for taking hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from developers while he was in office. he's expected to report to

in tonight's health alert, reported cases of the flu are down, but don't let that fool you. there's probably still plenty of sickness on its way. >> getting her flu shot, a mild season so far. >> she has two kids. i figured i was better safe than sorry. >> centers for disease control say flu cases are down, people should still get vaccinated. it's not unusual to have a slow start to the season than a dramatic increase in late winter. >> we have heard reports from the state health departments who help us track that information, that they are seeing more positive specimens. we might start to see increase in activity shortly.

>> doctors aren't sure why influenza isn't spreading as quickly, but warmer temperatures this winter may play a role. >> a milder winter might lead to people doing more activities outside, staying indoors less, being around sick people less. it may have something to do with that. >> the low flu activity might be a sign that more people are getting vaccinated. the doctor says if you haven't had your shot, get it now. >> it's never too late to be vaccinated. >> hopefully i don't get the flu. >> according to the cdc, eight adults have died from the flu this season. no children have died. compare that to last season when 122 youngsters died of complications from the flu. it can be very serious. caught on tape, a gang of armed robbers who have no regard for the law or apparently children either. check out the surveillance video from a seattle area pawnshop. four men storm in and push a child to the floor.

the masked men order everyone to the ground as they threaten customers and workers with guns and the base. police say they got away with jewelry and money. the child was not hurt. wearing yoga pants while doing downward dog, no problem. wearing yoga pants while geometry, there's a problem. the school says these gym pants violate the school's dress code and has banned students from wearing them. some kids and their parents disagree and say there's nothing wrong with yoga wear. >> bullying, etcetera, and pick on these girls for yoga pants. a lot of the jeans are tighter, lower. >> there shouldn't be anything wrong with it. >> yesterday, dozens of students dawn the forbidden pants. it was a protest and some of them were punished with in school suspensions. the school says the students need to follow the dress code

to prevent classroom disruptions. administrators are going to be talking with student leaders to work this all out next week. she was shaking and having trouble breathing. that is what we now learned about demi moore the night she was rushed to the hospital. the information coming from a newly released 911 call, friends made that call monday night from moore's home in beverly hills. >> tell me exactly what happened there. >> she smoked something. it's not marijuana, but it's similar to. it's similar to inscent. and she seems to be having convulsions. >> is she awake? >> semiconscious, barely. >> by the time paramedics got there, moore was able to speak and was breathing more normally. just the same, she spent the night in the hospital. her spokesman later said because of the stress in her life, moore has chosen to seek professional help to treat exhaustion. the actress is in the mist of a very public split with husband, ashton kutcher. one of the hottest trending

whole weekend will have a breezy scene. breezy and nice on saturday. a little bit cooler. colder saturday night if you have plans. in fact, many of us will get below freezing for a change. and as we get into sunday, we're looking at breezy conditions and cooler still, but still above average in terms of high temperatures. after that, we're looking at some colder air as we get into monday. we'll call it chilly, but it's still average. so you know, average is going to feel cold, because we haven't had many days average or below this particular month. here's a look at our future cast. all the clouds in frederick and particularly west of hagerstown and cumberland. a great weekend to go skiing. they'll have natural snow tomorrow afternoon and they'll be able to make snow all weekend. you have to go across the divide. so down toward snow shoe. i think it's over done, putting a sprinkle. there will be a disturbance. there will be a mix of clouds

and sun. all the snow showers remain in the mountains and that will continue into portions of sunday. overnight tonight, we'll stay partly cloudy, breezy, chilly. some clouds by dawn. low temperatures in the 30s and winds calming down a little bit at 10 to 15. now by morning, returning partly sunny, just chilly. i think a light jacket will do. 30s and 40s. winds south, southwest at 10. by afternoon, again, that breezy scene this weekend. partly cloudy, breezy and pleasant. highs around 55. winds increase southwest at about 10 to 20. that's a warmer wind. i think most folks will end up around 55. 55 in gaithersburg and reston. 56 downtown and looks like 56 over in college park as well. so, let's break it down for you. start in the 30s, by noon, 49 to 54. that's nice. and by evening, 51 to 56. cooler yes, but still nice. now the next three days, goes down a little bit. still above average. and then chilly on monday.
