evening here at the occupy d.c. encampment. except for that big blue tent over there. that seems to be the center piece of the occupier strategy to fight the power. this giant blue tarp has been dubbed the tent of dreams by occupy d.c. protesters. this is where scores of occupiers plan to wait out and defy park police officers when they try to enforce the rules against camping or sleeping in the square. >> the tactical purpose is to ensure that if they try to arrest one of us, they'll have to arrest all of us. they will enforce this selectively, take the most vulnerable first and this is a strategic attempt to prevent that from happening. >> it's not clear when that will happen. park police officers conducted

several sweeps, but not confronted the occupiers or attempted to confiscate any camping gear. their approach to enforcing the rules will be incriminate tall. for the time being, occupiers are dancing in the square. >> and lesli, occupiers tell me they believe that park police will move in late at night and perhaps in a few days or a few weeks when the protesters are asleep as well as the media. reporting live in mcpherson square, back to you. >> thanks armando. and members of the occupy movement aren't just making themselves known in big cities, in frederick maryland, occupy protesters living along carol creek ended their week long encampment with a march. they wanted to bring attention to the local impact of the foreclosure crisis and wrap things up before losing momentum. derek. >> lesli, a murder mystery is unfolding from fort washington to alexandria tonight. as investigators are trying to piece together exactly what

happened to a local activist. get the rest of the story from bruce leshan. >> this guy's life is gone. >> anger and sadness now in alexandria where lenny harris spent most of his life trying to head off violence and help the least fortunate among us. >> the whole thing was to prevent things like this from happening and end up happening. >> harris disappeared from an alexandria wreck center. within hours, cameras captured someone using his bank card. late last week an unanimous caller told police they would find a body at the bottom of a well in port washington. >> do you have any sense of what the motive would have been? >> we don't know. >> is there any sign he was having any financial problems or any enemies? >> we had none of them. it was a total mystery to us.

>> police spent nearly three days excavating lenny harris' body, from 23 feet down at the bottom of the well. they finally recovered his remains saturday night. >> when you are standing on the edge, you are looking down a 3 story building. >> when lenny harris disappeared, they were working on a joint project to get the young men to pull their pants up, keep it around their waist for a whole month, and take them to a basketball game. lenny harris may be gone, but michael johnson says the project will continue. bruce leshan, 9news now. >> and here's a look back at the time line in the harris case. he was last seen september 21, back near the charles houston recreation center. then after 1:00 a.m. the next morning, this man tried to use harris' atm card at an atm on king street. his cell phone was found on the bridge and then october 11,

harris' car was found abandoned in an apartment complex parking lot along livingston road. his body was found last thursday in that well along old fort road, also in fort washington. >> right now, opponents to make same sex marriage legal are demonstrating in annapolis. anny hong is in the newsroom with a closer look at this issue. anny. >> the debate over same sex marriage is heating up as a senate committee prepares for hearings tomorrow. the issue of same sex marriage is back of maryland's legislative session after stalling in the house of delegates last year. governor martin o'malley, a democrat, has made the measure a priority. he not only hopes, but is optimistic the bill will pass, which would pave the way for same sex couples to cement their love at the alter. >> we feel the hurt that many gay couples feel that they are not treated equally under the law. none of us can respond with the

an air force review found it was to remind students they could be killed if they don't pay attention while loading and unloading aircraft. >> mourning one of their own tonight. 29 years after being injured in line of duty, a drunk driver pinned officer william between his patrol car and another vehicle in an accident back in 1983. during his treatments, he was given a blood transfusion. the officer was forced to retire in 1984 for medical reasons and he died on friday. he was 64 years old. according to an investigation by mpr, freddie mac spent billions of dollars. so, while the investment arm of the company was profiting, homeowners with high rate hoer homeowners. refinance to a lower rate according to the investigation. imposed new rules and

back now with a commuter alert about a 8 month project. the south entrance will close, so crews can replace all three of that entrances escalators. that's the one on 19th street. it is part of a $150 million plan to improve the system's escalator and elevator reliability. the station's north entrance along q street will remain open. more problems for metro this morning when another rail cracked. this time it happened on the blue and orange line near the roslynn station. you may recall the problems last thursday when a rail cracked on the red line at the height of the morning rush. this morning's crash did not cause nearly as many delays. >> right now, both lanes of northbound interstate 80 are closed near hagerstown and that

is because of a deadly accident near the exit. this is just south of the pennsylvania border and maryland state police say that around 3:00, a tractor trailer crossed the median and hit three other vehicles head on. a man and one of those vehicles died and this road may be closed for several hours. taking a look at the aftermath as the reconstruction teams try to figure out exactly what went wrong. >> still ahead, four candidates, one nomination, we're going to have the latest in the fight to win the florida primary. -dad, why are you getting that? -that's my cereal.
