>> okay, all kidding aside, we will have the results of the florida primary for you tonight on 9news now at 11:00. breaking news. we first brought you at the top of our 5:00 hour, park police now tell us one southbound lane of the bw parkway has now started getting by the scene of the multicar accident that claimed the life of one person. the accident happened shortly before 3:00. the two people in the other car have nonlife threatening injuries. now this is in the blattenburg area. traffic still very much backed up in that area. >> an arrest tonight in the murder of a local activist. lenwood harris' body found in the well last thursday, four months after he was last seen alive in alexandria. matt is live in prince georges county police headquarters with more on what the police are saying tonight. matt. >> derek, a murder mystery solved. prince georges county police arrested 49-year-old lin wood

johnson, an oxen hill resident and charged him with first- degree murder. police say johnson knew harris, a well known alexandria community activist. but right now, they aren't saying exactly how. harris was last seen in alexandria on september 21. the next day, a man was caught on surveillance video using harris' atm card at a local bank. and harris' phone was found later that day on the woodrow wilson bridge. harris' car, meanwhile, was found on october 11 in prince georges county. the motive for the murder was robbery, but not giving any details about that robbery, siting the extremely active on going investigation. >> we work night and day with our partners in alexandria to identify the suspect. we have identified one. again, i want to stress we have a full written and verbal confession and we recovered what we believe to be the murder weapon and the murder weapon is a firearm. >> prince georges county

police say they expect several more people soon. >> they move fast on this one, thank you. police are looking for the vandals who targeted a mosque over the weekend. as peggy fox reports, it was so badly damaged, some wanted investigated as a hate crime. >> i'm peggy fox where fairfax county police say if they find the vandals who hit this mosque and learn they did it to target islam, it could be a hate crime. >> it could be somebody who really -- they made it to look like it. >> it was a heartbreaking discovery for the muslim community, which was weeks away from opening it new mosque. >> did not leave one window untouched. >> each window has been broken or shattered. >> this has at least four. >> the vandals struck overnight, using bottles of alcohol, cinder blocks, or two

mcdonald's will no longer use a pink slime in its burgers. that sounds appetizing. the fast food chain uses a food

the tax refund early. but if you file before january 26, you might encounter a delay. the irs says new safeguards in place to detect fraud are slowing things down a bit. but if you file those taxes after or on the 26th, you are not going to be impacted. by the way, tomorrow is february 1, which is free file day. to learn more about how to get your taxes filed for free, go to the irs.gov website. anita. >> well tonight, dreams are still alive for the occupy protesters in two d.c. parks. today a federal judge ruled the government must notify the protesters if it plans to shut down their camp. he also said that the protesters must also be given the opportunity to appeal any eviction plans. in california today, a federal judge ruled against an oakland police officer for his conduct during a november occupy protest. that judge said the officer violated the conduct standards when he covered his name plate

moisture in the water cable or ground water from snow. now in the rockies, all that snow melt goes to l.a. so that is important if they get snow out there. as far as we're concerned, we're behind for the month of january. not to be concerned. we are looking at another nice day tomorrow. temperatures in the 60s. we set a record at dulles. it was 66 for a record high at dulles. if you are headed out, a light jacket. see the flags waving? helped us get to the 60s. just a few clouds. winds out of the south, southwest at about 11. but that is sustained number. they are gusting stronger than that. relative humidity only 30%. looks dry air mass, a pretty spectacular way to close out january. satellite picture, radar combined. there's a weak system headed our way. moisture from the gulf coast stretching northeastward.

again, i said it earlier, if you're a gambler, you can leaf your umbrella at home. clear skies, a few clouds back to the west. it will roll in late tonight. stay dry through tonight and early tomorrow. temperatures, 60 arlington. still 60 downtown. most of the suburbs in the 50s. 58 at be that bethesda. 59 in sterling. even beltsville and laurel, temperatures in the upper 50s. all right. here's the deal. it's going to be warm again tomorrow. that's the good news. breezy and milder tonight. grab your umbrella tomorrow. we'll have periods of sun, showers and periods of clouds. a mixed bag tomorrow. cooler and wet on thursday. and that's not a power packed system either. a very nice finish on friday with temperatures crawling back into the low 50s, which would seem nice. clear skies early, breezy, milder. winds southwest at 10 to 15. kind of hard to believe that we stay above 40 tonight.

i mean, that's our average temperature. 41 in gaithersburg. 42 in reston. 45 arlington. 42 over in college park and 42 for a low in bowie. now tomorrow morning, i change it, variable clouds, a couple showers possible. 40s and 50s and then by afternoon, again, variable cloudiness, breezy and warm. a few showers possible. winds southwest 10 to 15 will turn northwest at 10 to 15 when the front goes through. not exactly a power packed front either. next seven days, rain showers on ground hog day. a nice finish on friday. we're in the low 50s. a little cooler or chilly over the weekend and unsettled as well. rain developing late saturday into saturday night. could end as snow in the mountains. some showers, who cares. and then some showers on monday. temperatures in the upper 40s and back in the 50s next tuesday. >> is there a big game? >> something coming up. >> like a bowl, and you eat

now, 9sports with kristen berset. the best sports in town. >> for the first time in super bowl history, the nfl allowed fans to attend media day. there was 5,000 of them that sat in the stands with headphones on that they could listen to what the players were saying, who was speaking at the time, but on the field, you can see why media day is considered a spectacle. that is chaos. you can see the patriots players mixed in. you see their jerseys. media day isn't about football. the players get asked stupid questions. wes was asked about the many tom brady hair styles over the years. >> that is a twilight.

second half with a very treacherous road ahead against some tough division rivals. tonight, they open up a three- game road trip in tampa and we all know, will be without alex ovechkin. the road has caused serious problems all season for the caps. they are 8, 13, and 2. when you look at the remaining schedule. over half of the games are on the road. if we want to make the post season, they have to change things, and fast. >> we want to get back to being that team. not acceptable to play one way at home and play a different way on the road. so you're not just going to win ten in a row. but baby steps. get your game identified on how you'll play on the road. >> all right, time now to vote for this week's high school game of the week. among your choices in boys, good council at bishop. briar woods, and girls. lots of great games. >> sounds good. that's it for us, the cbs evening news is next. >> and of course, derek is back with our area's only local newscast at 7:00. >> have a great night.
