have been most hurt by the obama economy. reporter: romney left florida with momentum and lots of cash. newt gingrich finished 14 points behind but said he's not backing down. >> i am running to be the president of all the american people and i am concerned about all of the american people. reporter: in the states holding the next fundraisers and caucuses gingrich is way behind in fundraising and in organizing volunteers and staffers on the ground. the former house speaker is fighting hard to convince voters it's a two-man race for the republican nomination. romney's strategy is the opposite calling it a four- candidate contest with congressman ron paul and former senator rick santorum still in the mix. a super pac supporting santorum is ready to launch a new tv ad in missouri aimed at convincing voters he is the best conservative challenger to president obama. ron paul has a strong ground game in nevada. he skipped florida to focus on building support in caucus

states. randall pinkston, cbs news. >> we've got a gop presidential delegate update. florida primary winner mitt romney is up to 97 delegates. newt gingrich shut out last night. he's got 26 delegates. rick santorum has 14 followed by ron paul with four. you need 1,444 delegates to cast your nomination. the presidential hopefuls turn west next. this saturday republican voters in nevada will caucus, then next tuesday contests in colorado, minnesota and missouri. on february 11th maine will hold its republican caucuses. then it's nearly three weeks till republican primaries in arizona and michigan. the nation's leading breast cancer charity susan g. komen for the cure is severing ties for planned parenthood. the cutoff from the organization that sponsors huge fundraising walks and research for breast cancer means thousands of dollars less for

mainly breast exams. peggy fox takes a closer look at what's behind the bitter risk between the two groups. reporter: the susan g. komen decision to stop sparking funding for planned parenthood sparked outrage. it's believed the zig came about because of karen handle, the new senior vice. public policy who -- vice president of public policy who ran unsuccessfully for governor of georgia. >> when you turn your back on that many men, this does become a war against women. reporter: komen reportedly made the decision because of an investigation launched by a conservative congressman urged by anti-abortion groups. >> no federal money has ever been spent towards abortion. reporter: laura meyers, ceo of planned parenthood of metropolitan washington, says there is no investigation. >> clearly this is about caving to an extreme agenda and caving to an extreme anti-choice agenda and so i think it's very

ended. today in annapolis it was a family touched by tragedy versus the motor vehicle administration. the question, how often is often enough to test older drivers for competency behind the wheel. nathan cransopler, a cyclist was hit by an 83-year-old last year and now his family is fighting a new proposal that would let drivers go eight years before testing for renewal. >> this stint a unique incident there. are other examples of -- isn't a unique incident. there are other examples of older drivers having incidents on the roads. >> the move is to save money. the administration says it depends on families, doctors and police to refer older drivers who may need additional testing. at least 50 people were killed today and hundreds injured during a riot at a soccer game in egypt. live tv shows fans running off the field and chasing sock irplayers in the port city of

syed. tonight that silken voice that wished us peace, love and soul is now silent. don cornelius, creator and host of the show soul train appears to have taken his own life. the 75-year-old was found dead this morning in his l.a. home. for decades soul train was definitely must see tv on saturdays. it started out before there was cable and mtv and b.e.t. as a place to showcase r and b talent and dances and fashions. radio stations throughout the d.c. area immediately went to a soul train theme today and down at ben 's chili bowl nearly everybody had a soul train memory. >> i used to be in front of the tv with my bowl of cereal watching the soul train live. >> loved to see the people dance and their clothes. >> had to love the clothes and the dancing. soul train made its national debut october 2nd, 1971, 41

this comes just two years after the company filed for bankruptcy and had to rely on taxpayers for a bailout. a nutrition professor at kansas state university is on a junk food diet for real. mark houb is getting national attention after losing 30 pounds in 10 weeks. he eats twinkies, nutty bars and snack cakes of all kinds but i counts calories and -- he counts calories and eats moderate amounts of junk food along with vegetables, meat and some milk. the assistant professor of nutrition at kansas state says his crazy diet started as a class project. a wattsville woman wants to save her family farm from commercial development. at issue is the old bellwood farm and now after seven years of her death her family is taking the fight to montgomery county court suing johns hopkins university to keep the dying wish of elizabeth banks alive. >> my only priority here is

justice for my aunt liz. reporter: his aunt liz was a fiesty former schoolteacher famous for chasing drops off her family farm with a shot -- developers off her family farm with a shotgun. >> she never married and didn't have children, so this farm was her life. it was everything to her and she spent the '60s through the '80s fighting off development as it surrounded her. reporter: instead of selling her 74-acre property to the highest bidder, in 1989 she sold it to johns hopkins university for just 5 million. her nephew tim says she only agreed because she thought it would be turned into a satellite campus. the bell word catch us of the johns hopkins university -- campus of the johns hopkins university. >> they described it as a small college academic campus of. reporter: 23 years later these are the development signs now surrounding her old property. they mention a campus but not the kind aunt liz would have wanted. if the university gets its way, this will become a high rise commercial science park. >> the worst part of it all is

hopkins isn't planning to occupy any of it at this point. it's simply going to be ground leases out to third parties for profit. reporter: two months ago jim and his family filed a lawsuit. the university countered with a motion to dismiss and that hearing was held today at montgomery county circuit court. attorneys for the university argue that their plan is in line with the original deed, but tim disagrees. >> you entrust your donation to the receiver and that trust should never be broken. reporter: in rockville, kristin fisher, 9 news now. >> the judge did not issue an opinion today. as for johns hopkins university, their attorneys declined to comment, but a spokesperson for the university released this statement. it says, "we believe strongly that the contract and deed do not restrict the height or density of development on the property and that the university has the right to lease to nonuniversity tenants. we believe that when she, the judge, takes a close look at the contract deed and applicable law, she will agree with the university's position."

day two of short sleeves and short pants, yup, in the middle of winter and while the mild temperatures are good for most of us, they can be bad news for people with allergies. we sent annie an anny hong to find out. reporter: this milder weather has a lot of people taking their allergy medications a lot earlier than usual. more people are now suffering from allergies, sneezing, dealing with their itchy throats and their noses. they're also buying allergy medications lately. temperature also is fluctuating a lot more than we normally see

this time of year, which is eyebar good and bad things for those -- a good and bad thing for those dealing with allergies. it's good when it's cold because everything is kind of on hold and things aren't blooming, but it's bad when it's warm like today because this is when things are really blooming and the pollen is really acting up. >> i can't breathe. i can't smell anything. i have a constant headache. it's like i was just thinking about it as i was walking down here. by the end of the day i get the worst headache. i can't even think straight. >> the first thing we see in spring is people calling in for refills of their prescriptions and we started seeing that last week and then this week we've actually had patients call in to say i'm having symptoms. can i come in and start my medication? reporter: so the question a lot of people have is will this mean for a longer aryl season? well, the doctors we -- allergy season? well, the doctors we spoke to

here's where the precipitation. is it's raining in roanoke and will slowly move north and east, give us a glancing blow. in other words, you folks up in frederick probably won't see any rain at all. 63 now in arlington, 60 bethesda, 61 rockville. upper 50s in gaithersburg, 61 great falls, still 61 in andrews. we'll cool down a bit, but still going to remain mild, dry evening commute, wet morning commute south of town, still mild thursday and a very nice finish friday. by midnight tonight maybe some rain, d.c. south, certainly down toward fredericksburg. we'll put this into motion. notice how it hugs the south. by 6:00 some showers in the immediate to metro area and maybe some as far north as frederick. by noon everything clears out quickly except for our friends in southern maryland and even you clear out early afternoon. a little cooler behind it, even in west of the divide, some snow showers possible in the

afternoon and evening. mostly cloudy tonight, just chilly, light rain possible by dawn, lows 38 to about 46 and quite frankly, mainly in the 40s. tomorrow morning early shower possible but partly cloudy, cool, temps in the 40s. by afternoon a nice day, partly cloudy, cooler, yes, but still mild, high temperatures around 55 with northwest winds at 10. next seven days, we're looking at a gorgeous day friday, temperatures in the low 50s, saturday clouds come in, maybe light rain by evening, temps around 50 and then rain possibly ending as snow north and west of town sunday, 40 but we go right back to 50 monday and we're still in the 40s next tuesday and wednesday. that arctic air is backing off a little bit. >> unbelievable. in addition to it being almost a 70-degree day, today is also national signing day. >> it's all about the high schoolers today. we find out where they get to. go they were the center of attention, like she said national signing day. lots of excitement. we'll tell you who maryland
