let's get right over to anny hong. >> we're looking at snow falling during the evening commute. not a whole lot of accumulation is expected because the surface temperature is well above the freezing mark. what does fall, a lot of it will melt. right now where is the storm? it's out to the west of us. you can see out into parts of tennessee, st. louis, missouri. you see the green and some of the blue. that is the rain. and also snow coming this way. we'll see increasing clouds ahead of it overnight tonight. here is a look at the future cast. tomorrow morning commute is going to be fine. just cloudy conditions. then you see the blue. this is the light snow coming in by afternoon hours. the purple pink here is the wintery mix. out towards the bay. by the evening hours at 7:00, you'll also see some snow around gaithersburg, frederick and leesburg and then later tomorrow night into the overnight hours a

lot of this will be pulling on out. i think the grassy areas will see some accumulations. farther north and west out of town. maybe 1-2 inches. tonight increasing clouds and cold. we have a full snow moon. how a pro pro is that. lows will get down and the winds will be out of the northeast at 5-10 miles an hour. we'll talk more about the timing and also the accumulations for where you live coming up a little later. back to you. >> all right, thanks, anny. former presidential senator rick santorum kept his presidential campaign alive tonight with a big win in the missouri primary and a strong showing in the minnesota caucuses. in all, three contests tonight in the republican presidential campaign, and gary nurenberg is here with what we know so far. gary. >> reporter: santorum did not just win missouri, he won it big. 55% to mitt romney's 25% with 96% of precincts reporting. in minnesota which romney won big in 2008, santorum tonight is

winning convincingly 20 points roughly over second place ron paul with mitt romney in third. in colorado, no reliable projections yet. that was the goal at this still water, minnesota caucus. >> we're going to cut government spending. >> reporter: on a tuesday night largely about mitt romney trying to keep his momentum while his opponents try to stop it by questioning his conservative convictions. >> governor romney as governor who is pro abortion, pro gun control, pro tax increase. >> reporter: ron paul made a last minute appeal at a minnesota caucus at about 8:30 washington time. >> the bigger the government, the smaller our liberty. >> reporter: but it's rick santorum getting the biggest boost. >> tonight was not just a victory for us, but tonight was a victory for the voices of our party. conservatives and tea party people who are out there every single day in the vineyards building the conservative movement, building the base of

the republican party and building a voice for freedom in this land. >> reporter: santorum went on to say he's not trying to position himself as a conservative alternative to mitt romney but as the conservative alternative to president obama. nevertheless, the message is clear. if you don't like romney, i'm your guy. in colorado romney was expected to win big. about 11% of the vote in now. he and santorum, romney and santorum tied. no projections yet. we'll bring you up-to-date when we have further numbers. >> quite a showing for santorum. meanwhile mayor gray gave his district address. he touched on dc's strengthening economy and lower unemployment. the mayor said all of these are reasons residents should unite and share his dream of one city. >> my plan for building one city focuses on three priorities. creating a new economy for the

district that is growing and diversified. two, insuring that district reds dents are prepared for the -- residents are prepared for the district of the economy and improving the life for all. >> and emergency response times in the cities have improved and that will plans to hire even more police officers in the future. he added the number of homicides went down last year, but the number of robberies this year so far has gone up. a surveillance video that captured an encounter between prince george's county police and a 19-year-old robbery suspect has resulted in two officers being suspended from the force and facing possible criminal charges. matt jablow joins us live to explain. >> reporter: derek, there are two very different stories about what happened and tonight the prince george's county police department says two of the officers have some serious explaining to do. >> the story began around 9:30 friday night when two prince george's county police officers

approached 19-year-old ryan dorm, a young man whom the officers said they suspected was about to rob a gas station on rhode island avenue. according to the officers, while struggling with dorm, one of the officers guns went off, though nobody was hit. dorm was arrest and a kudzed of trying to -- accused of trying to grab the officer's gun. they say something about the story just never added up. >> it really didn't make up. it just didn't make sense. >> reporter: and the police department's new inspector general now apparently agrees. >> we have an internal investigation. >> reporter: after watching surveillance vidf the incident, the police department has suspended the two officers involved, one of whom is a 13-year-old veteran of the department and referred the matter to the state's attorney's office which could charge the officers criminally. sources tell 9news that the surveillance video shows that the officers gun went off not during a struggle with the suspect as the officers claim. >> we had questions about that. >> reporter: but while one of the officers was hitting the suspect in the head with a gun

after tackling him from behind. >> i did not hit the police officer. >> reporter: this man says he knows ryan dorm and that dorm a convicted felon was targeted by police for no apparent reason. >> they said he ran. that's all he did was ran. and that is no reason to get shot at. >> reporter: a few hours ago, the prince george's county state's attorney's office dropped all charges against ryan dorm. anita and derek. well, 9 wants you to know that ever since we've been reporting on underage drinking, montgomery county today announced an important new initiative. the department of liquor control will distribute identification checking calendars to every licensed business in the county that sells alcohol. >> that is going to make it easier to quickly figure out the age of a purchaser. tonight our andrea mccarren shows us the harsh reality of some troubled lives that began with early alcohol use. [ sirens ] >> it looks like he's in custody. >> i drank to make myself feel

better. that was my medication. . >> reporter: on a cold december night at a montgomery county police station, we met jim shackled to a table. he had been picked up on his fourth dui. >> yes, i could hurt somebody. >> reporter: he confessed that some day he will probably kill someone, not with a gun or knife but by getting behind the wheel loaded with alcohol. >> i might do the same thing all the time. go out and kill somebody. i don't want that. but i know it's in me. it's in me because i'm sick. >> reporter: the self described worthless lor agreed to share his story because he doesn't want young people to make the same mistakes he has. >> i almost died three weeks ago. >> reporter: how? >> i drank a fifth of vodka and i was puking in my own puke. it was going down my esophagus. >> reporter: and worst of all,

it was witnessed by his own son. >> my wife said he's just drunk. my son said, no, mommy, he's really in bad shape. >> reporter: jim is 55 years old. though he looks significantly older. he started drinking when he was 14. drinking, he said, for fun. >> reporter: how do you describe yourself now? >> pathetic. i find myself pathetic. look where i am. >> reporter: he's lost his job, his home and his marriage is in shambles. [ sirens ] >> reporter: hours earlier, another life ravaged by alcohol. we were riding in a montgomery county police cruiser in downtown silver spring. >> a hit and run vehicle. >> reporter: what began as an apparent hit and run escalated into a wild, high-speed chase. for more than five minutes, we followed the speeding driver as he barreled on to the beltway and then i270.

threatened by andrea mccarren's series on underage drinking. but andrea says she's been stunned and heart broken to find herself subjected to online name calling to foul to spell out on tv and threats that the cops took so seriously they posted a police car in front of her home all weekend long. and now the pressure on her family has become so intense, andrea has decided she will no longer be the face on camera for some of the more sensitive stories. don't worry, our reports are going to continue despite dozens of facebook posts like this one. it says you can't try to take away something the teens love without retaliation. haven't you heard of teenage rebellion. teens love to drink and i'm sure they'll be laughing it up when they party tonight. we never thought we could stop teenagers from drinking. we just wasn't to wake up the folks whose job it is to make it harder for you to screw up. maybe get some kids to calculate

let's check back in with gary nurenberg for the latest on the caucus results. >> big surprise in rick santorum winning two contests tonight. a clear lead in missouri where he has won 55-25% over mitt romney. in minnesota, a big surprise. romney did well there in 2008. tonight santorum wins 20 -- i'm sorry, 45 to ron paul's 27. romney third. in colorado santorum and romney tied at 37% each. but only with 11% reporting. so that could go either way. if anything happens, we'll legality you know. >> thank you, gary -- we'll let you know. >> thank you, gary. dozens come out for a vigil

to remember a transgendered woman. they found her stabbed in the head at a bus stop in the 4900-block of east capitol. emergency crews took her to the hospital. she later died there. so far no arrests, but police did release video of a person of interest. they're offering a $25,000 reward to anybody with information that leads to an arrest and a conviction. no arrests yet in two murders that might, in fact, be connected in prince george's county. the victims were found shot to death less than a mile from each other in the span of an hour. police say 16-year-old christopher donald smith was found dead about 10:45 last night in new carrollton. then the ambulance crew handling his case spotted the second victim a few blocks away. 23-year-old alfonso edward thompson. police believe he was gunned down while riding a bike. a big day tomorrow in the yeardley love trial. look for opening statements. first they'll have to finish seating the jury. right now there are 28 potential jurors and the prosecution and defense will wid will that down

to 12 -- widdle that down to 12 jurors. huguely is charged with murdering his ex-girlfriend yeardley love back in 2010. talk about cleaning house, the superintendent for the los angeles unified school district has temporarily removed the entire staff of an elementary school which had been scannedlized by child sex abuse allegations. teacher mark burnt was charged last week with committing lewd acts on 23 children. another martin springer was arrested friday on suspicious of fondling two girls in his classroom. the roughly 230 teachers and staff will be paid on relief and many will be allowed to return once they finish the investigation. a high ranking official at susan komen has resigned. sources say komen's vice president for public policy karen handle was the driving

force behind excluding planned parenthood from komen's grants. she writes i am deeply disappointed by the gross involvement in it. i acknowledge my role in the matter and continue to believe our decision was the best one for komen's future and the women we serve. a federal appeals court has ruled california's voter approved ban on same sex marriage is unconstitutional. the 9th u.s. circuit court of appeals upheld a lower court's ruling that proposition 8 violates the rights of gay and lesbian couples. they are promising to appeal this all the way to the u.s. supreme court. that's been expected. same sex marriages are legal in six other states and washington dc. $800, 300 bucks. these are some of the dollar figures folks have gotten from treasuries because of our claim your cash segment. this is money they had forgotten about or perhaps inherited. so if you hear me read out your

there. here is a look at our michael and son weather camera where we have increasing clouds on the way before a little snowstorm arrives. temperatures were in the mid 50s today. we're now down to lower 40s, partly cloudy, winds out of the northeast at 9 miles per hour. here is a look at the national picture. the storm system that we are watching is we're zooming in on it. it's impacting already parts of st. louis into parts of tennessee and we're going to see this come through our way probably by tomorrow afternoon for our north and west of town. we'll probably see that turn into snow in the morning hours. but right now we have a quiet night. kind of a quiet before the snow makes its way here by the afternoon. all right. so what are we expecting? well, we do have a touch of winter coming this way. but the wednesday morning commute is going to be fine. no problems. just cloudy conditions out there. and we do see the afternoon light snow and rain developing. we'll see rain out to the south and east of town. the critical time for the snow will be 4:00 p.m.

to 9:00 p.m. impacting the evening rush. so extra time and patience to get home. we're expecting a trace around the district and the beltway. maybe up to two inches farther north and west you go up towards the mason dixon line. i don't think we'll see a lot of snow on the ground unless it's untreated. otherwise mainly this grassy areas may see some accumulations. and it should be really minor for most locations. here is a look at the future cast. cloudy conditions. but by tomorrow afternoon, here is the blue, that is the light snow developing. gaithersburg, leesburg, winchester, hagerstown, montgomery and frederick county, you'll see a little bit of snow. and then we'll see it continue through the evening hours, including the district. you can see south and east of town we have the green which is the rain. may see a little bit of a mix. but then overnight by thursday morning it pulls on out and you may see a few flurries out there. as far as accumulations are concerned, we're going to probably see just a little trace around town.
