the beltway area turned into snow. it will make it easier for commuters out there. here's a look at live doppler 9,000hd. the back end of the storm moving in. here's a look at the snow north of town into gaithersburg, reston, even rockville seeing some snow. the pink is the mix and then if you look in the beltway and south and east, we are looking at light rain. now this snow can be changing over to snow by 7:00 or so. we have a winter weather advisory in effect for frederick, washington, jefferson counties until 8:00 tonight. maybe get 1 to 2 inches. here's our future cast. at 7:00, you can see the district is included in the snow and we may see a break tonight and by midnight, this should be pulling on out. we'll talk more about that and some accumulations when we come back. back to you. >> all right anny, you are just part of our team coverage tonight. ken is also out there covering the snow. he went west to leesburg, virginia, but we begin with our scott broom in myersville,

maryland. >> lesli, that's a measure of just how far we had to get out of town to find some significant snow on the ground. i'm on top of south mountain. here west of frederick. it is still snowing. there's an inch on the ground, but the roadway, i-70 behind me is clear and people are moving with the temperature around 33 degrees up here on the mountain. let's take a look at activities in frederick county. maryland officials really anxious today because they remember that big storm back in january when there was gridlock on the roadways. so federal employees were released early into maryland and also maryland's highway officials were warning people about the possibility of big problems on the roadway tonight, but if you come back live and look at i-70 here in frederick county, you can see that those problems did not develop this afternoon and things are in good shape. let's take a run over to virginia, where my colleague is standing by in leesburg. >> hey scott.

what a difference an hour makes. the last time we were live on the air, we saw significant snowfall. now, really i can't tell if this is snow or rain or a little bit of both that is falling down here right now. if you wanted to make a snow man, this isn't the kind of snow you would need. let's show you video of what it did look like an hour ago when we saw some snowfall. it did go on top of the cars parked out here and some of the roads around here did become wet. the motorist had to deal with lower visibilities. the motorists that i spoke with stay having the snowfall and not sticking is a good thing. take a listen. >> not sticking means no accidents. so when i come back out here later to pick up the kids, i don't have to sit in traffic. >> i'll tell you what, again when i heard that the snow was coming, we thought we were going to build a snow man and show you it here on the air. that's not the case.

confirms to 9news now they launch add separate investigation of the town market square liquor store following andrea mccarren's exclusive report last wednesday. >> do you need a fake id? >> usually, no. >> for several weeks we watched and video taped dozens of teenagers buying alcohol in northwest washington. 16-year-olds, 14-year-olds, buying natural life coming out of here with cases of beer. >> we sent a team out. >> the spokesperson says within the past week, they sent their usual under cover team to the town market square to try and make an illegal purchase. >> the team is generally metropolitan police department. a group of youth advocates from the national capital coalition to prevent underage drinking. we went to the store. and we found no violations because he did not sell to the minors. >> we should point out that

the undercover team they sent to this liquor store to buy booze didn't reflect the normal customer base. they were all african american. >> our reports show that these are caucasian youth. do you know go look for caucasian young people? how does this work? >> i would say we will continue to monitor it. i don't want to speculate on who would go in there the next time. >> this number show in 2008, there were 151 liquor sales in the district. last year, the number dropped to 89. bruce johnson, 9news now. >> here's a brief time line of what has happened. before we began shooting our investigation, 9news now alerted the metropolitan police that this was selling to teenagers. that was back in early december of last year. mpd told us it brought the attention to the attention of abra that same week. we waited to confront the store

and left her to die. defense attorneys say the young man had no idea he hurt her so badly. bruce leshan is live in charlottesville with what happened in court today. bruce. >> yeah, this was our first chance to hear in detail the prosecution and the defense theories of this case that has touched so many hot buttons. college binge drinking, domestic violence, wealth and privilege. >> the first photograph of huguely in nearly two years, looking much thinner. it is just before the prosecutor told jurors that he beat yeardley love and then left her alone in her room barely able to move, unable to summon help until she died, possibly as long as two hours later. innocent prosecutor quoted an e- mail huguely allegedly sent love two days before killing her. you said you would get back

together with me if i stopped drinking. then you went and bleeped mike burns. i should have killed you then. here's reaction from a potential juror who almost made it on the panel. >> i'm not sure if it was first or second degree. i don't think it was premeditated. >> but you are convinced he was involved already? >> oh yes. >> huguely's lawyer admits some, but not all of it. there was no reason, nothing he did to her that would cause george to think this would be the horrible result. and then the deference attorney quoted from the police interrogation of huguely, just hours after love's death. the detective, did you hit her head into the wall? did you crack it? huguely, no. you guys said she had a black eye and a bump on the head. i never did anything that could do that to her. >> huguely's lawyer said she

segment. >> let's get to breaking news. metro tells us the escalators are not working at the station's north entrance. normally, that would be a minor inconvenience, but not so much tonight since the south entrance is closed for eight months for on going escalator repairs. so, passengers are asked to go to the north station on the red line instead of the dupont circle station. >> congress passed a bill that would speed up the nation's switch from radar to an air traffic control system based on gps technology. the bill also requires the faa to open u.s. skies to drone flights within four years and that's got privacy advocates worried. the legislation will lead to widespread use of drones for surveillance by private companies. >> not many of us like going through airport security, but there could soon be an alternative to frequent fliers and belt removal we have all come to deal with. >> i'm kristin fisher, how

time, wouldn't it? >> all right, so the weather. >> yeah. well, you know, we're seeing a rain event around the beltway, but north and west. a little bit of snow shower activity. we are now the back edge of the system is moving through. may also see snow coming to an end, starting from the west and heading up to the east. i want to start with our winter weather advisory still in effect until 8:00 tonight. this may come down sooner as the snow showers come to an end. this includes washington, frederick, and overson counties until 8:00. here's a look at live doppler 9,000. you can see the snow is starting to wind down. the areas you see in blue are scattered and looking at rain mainly in southern maryland and out toward the bay. i'll zoom in. dulles right now is reporting snow. gaithers burks gaithersburg. a mix around the beltway. for the most part, looking at a

mainly rain event. could change over to snow as temperature falls. here's a look at a picture we just got in from my friend on facebook. you can see the road, there's no snow, but there is snow on the grassy areas, on his buschs. he is reporting 2 inches of snow. frostburg, maryland, getting just over an inch. stevenson, virginia, about just under an inch. and winchester, an inch and a half. not a big snow maker as expected. here's a look at our michael and son camera. light rain in the immediate metro area. temperature 37 degrees. winds are light at this hour, east, northeast at 5 miles per hour. right now, temperatures in gaithersburg at the freezing mark. leesburg same deal. martinsburg 33. temperatures will drop into the mid 20s out in the north western suburbs. could see some slick spots developing. this is a minor snowstorm. the timing not so good. mainly wet roads. maybe snow on the grassy areas

and again, watch for the slick spots across the overpasses and the bridges early tomorrow. here's a look at the future cast. you can see the snow starting to pull away from the west tonight and by midnight, a lot of it will be ending and dying down. in fact, we'll start to see the clouds clear on out as high pressure gains control for tomorrow and into friday. here's a look at our final call for snow. a trace to an inch around town. you can see 1 to 2 inches northwest and at most 2 to 4 inches toward oakland and cumberland and the mountains. here's how your forecast is shaping up. once we are done with the snow, we're talking more sunshine thursday and friday. mid 40s for your thursday. friday in the 50s. saturday we're going to be cooler. temperatures in the low 40s. canadian cold air coming in from the weekend, which means by saturday night into sunday, we're going to be much colder. look at sunday morning and overnight low in the teens. so definitely bundle up for the weekend. parents, if you're taking your kids to the bus stop, walk him,
