at light rain. around the district, some scattered light rain out there, so really not a big mess. we still have a winter weather advisory in effect until 8:00. north of us, frederick, jefferson counties. this will be coming down earlier than expected. my friend, jeffrey thomas, from facebook sent this into us. myersville, maryland, getting some snow. it did not stick to the roads. most of it just grassy surfaces. just over an inch of snow. half an inch. hagerstown, about an inch. and stevens city, virginia, getting almost an inch. so, for the rest of tonight, scattered light snow. that will be coming to an end through tonight. rain still south and east of town. then, partial clearing over night. lows dropping down into the mid 20s around town. we will be below freezing and
7:01 pm
concerned about some slick spots developing overnight into early tomorrow morning. many of those bridges and overpasses and untreated surfaces. we'll talk about how your weekend is shaping up, where we see some cold air coming this way. derek, back to you. >> thank you, anny. the snow is beginning to taper off a bit. in fact, wets of town it's already stopped falling. ken, i guess it's not as bad as it was. >> no, derek, a couple hours ago we had some snow. it never did manage to stick to the ground. but even that stuff is gone. really, there isn't much out here other than just some cold rare dropping. you can see there was some snow. anny was talking about this. some of the snow sticking to the grass and the plants and that sort of thing. you know what? the best thing about the snow not sticking, of course, out here in leesburg is the traffic. take a look back over my shoulder. you can see the traffic here is flowing freely. there haven't been any tieups
7:02 pm
or backups or even any accidents or wrecks to report. at least not in this area out here by the leesburg outlet malls. again, you know, the snow that was here earlier today stuck around for about 30 minutes. now it's gone. back to you. >> thank you ken molestina. about 30 miles north of where ken was, the snow began falling early and fast. as scott broom found, the slick roads were never really an issue there either. >> trying to get everything done. >> it started early at frederick county, and rattled a few nerves. >> my husband is working in dc today. so i'd like to have him home sometime this evening. >> traffic built steadily as this federal government announced unscheduled leave and tell commuting to begin getting workers home early. >> i wish i was a federal worker, too, i'm going to work. i work retail. we are open for everything. >> this is no blizzard, but the highway administration in maryland is gun shy.

materialized. and that's good news. in frederick county, scott broom, 9news now. >> okay, so we do want to know how much snow you may have gotten. you can submit your storm report to wusa9.com. >> opening statements in the yardly love murder trial. george huguely beat her and left her to die. defense attorneys argue the young man from montgomery county had no idea that he had hurt her so badly. bruce leshan was in charlottesville for all of today's developments. >> the first photograph of huguely in nearly two years looking much thinner, it is just before the prosecutor told jurors that he beat yeardley love and then left her alone in her room barely able to move, unable to summon help until she died, possibly as long as two hours later. then the prosecutor quoted an e- mail, huguely, allegedly sent love two days before killing her. you said you would get back
7:05 pm
together with me if i stopped drinking. then you went and believed mike burns. i should have killed you then. here's reaction from a potential juror who almost made it on the panel. >> i'm not sure if it was first or second degree. i don't think it was premeditated. >> but you are convinced he was involved already? >> oh yes. >> huguely's lawyer admits some, but not all of it. no reason, nothing he did to her that would cause george to think this would be the horrible result. and then the defense attorney quoted from the police interrogation of huguely just hours after love's death. the detective, did you hit her head into the wall? did you crack it? huguely, no, you guys said she had a black eye and a bump on the head. she's not dead. i didn't. i did not. i never did anything that could do that to her. bruce leshan, 9news now. >> and another prince georges county police officer off the streets tonight after being

7:07 pm
newt gingrich, he is focused on next month's super tuesday contest in ohio and he is pleased with his showing last night. he did come in second in minnesota. however, he is still the only candidate without a win. >> we all know neither gingrich nor santorum will appear on the ballot in virginia after both of them failed to get enough signatures to qualify. but the general assembly in virginia is on the verge of changing that law, trying to mike sure that sort of thing doesn't happen again. the house of delegates passed a bill that eases requirements for candidates in the commonwealth. under that measure, statewide candidates would still have to get a set number of signatures, however, more people, including the candidates themselves, would be allowed to collect those signatures. now off to the state senate for that one. and a new poll shows romney now trailing president obama in virginia. the poll shows 47% of likely voters in the state would pick the president if the election were today.
