biggest night remembering one of its biggest stars, if not the biggest, whitney houston. i'm bruce johnson. there was anny megsal tribute during tonight's broadcast to the six-time grammy winner whose sudden death stunned the entertainment world just yesterday. [ music ] >> whitney houston sold 170 million albums and songs, and this is jennifer hudson performing one of her biggest hits. while jennifer hudson was very good at this, there is some criticism tonight that perhaps it just wasn't enough. joining me on the set is sonny

from wpgcf m and i've got to ask both of you, sonny, you first, because you had thought that whitney houston was sold short. >> absolutely. jennifer hudson did an amazing job, but we expected more. we wanted mariah carey, we wanted beyonce, christina aguilera. we wanted these great voices to come out and do what they do best, to pay tribute to the voice, and it just didn't happen. >> tommy, would you agree with that? >> yes, totally. i thought the entire show would have found a way to tie whitney in. for the actual tribute, we wanted some more whitney. >> we felt robbed. >> do you think it's because we don't know why she died or how she died, and there's all these questions, or do you think they just didn't have time to change the show around? >> that's the thing. there's a lot of speculation. she has had a sordid past.

tonight was about celebrating the voice and legacy, but it is kind of shrouded with what actually happened. >> you wanted more. >> i wanted more. i needed to see more. we can't just have one person pay tribute to such a great legend and icon. >> new information tonight about the death of whitt anyway houston. police in l.a. have now confirmed that houston was found in a bathtub in her hotel room at the beverly hilton hotel. members of her entourage pulled her out of the tub and tried to resuscitate her. emergency responders took over but were unsuccessful. tmz reports houston may have drowned. the entertainment site says police found a number of bottles containing prescription medications in her room. police are saying there are no signs of criminal activity, and it may be weeks after an autopsy before they have an exact cause of death. whitney houston's daughter has been released from a los angeles hospital tonight after being rushed there this morning. a source close to the family

says bobbi kristina brown was treated and released for stress and anxiety. she was taken to the hospital around 10:30 a.m. sunday from the beverly hilton hotel, the exact same hotel where her mother was found dead. whitney houston wasn't the only entertainer remembered tonight. there were tributes to etta james. let's talk about who really stole the show. adele. >> you mean adele? absolutely. the adele win count, six. she swept them. way to go. they should just put a chair on the stage for her to hang out. >> we hadn't heard from her for five months. >> crazy throat surgery. she was not allowed to speak for most of november. she told anderson cooper that she did have an app that she could swear with on her phone. >> let's give a listen. a swarm of bees attack a mesa, arizona neighborhood, and tonight one family is recovering from dozens of bee stings. it happened when a beekeeper and his family were attacked while he was trying to exterminate the hive. that angered the base and they swarmed the entire neighborhood. two children were stung more than 40 times. their mother was stung more than 70 times. >> we turned to the right and we saw the beekeeper in the driveway, and she had hundreds of bees all over her, and she was freaking out, shaking them off her, and we saw the beekeeper had another boy, and he was trying to push him away somewhere. >> a teen riding his bake in the area was also stung. none of the injuries were life threatening. terrifying moments for a husband and wife in virginia overnight when a massive tree fell through their house. the woman was trapped in the bedroom. matt jablow reports it took an hour to free her.

>> the devastation. >> reporter: it happened about 1:00 this morning here on lavery court in berk, virginia as the d.c. area was being buffeted by extremely high winds. >> this was a terrible thing that happened. >> according to the fairfax county fire department, a 70- foot tree fell on this house in the 5,000 block of lavery court. >> this was significant. >> reporter: pinning a woman to the floor of her bedroom. >> it landed on her and blocked her in her bed. >> reporter: trapping her husband as well. >> have you ever seen anything quite like this? >> not in our neighborhood. >> reporter: it took firefighters an hour to free the couple. the woman was taken to a local hospital. her husband was not injured. >> people got awfully lucky. >> reporter: yes, they he did. >> reporter: firefighters say they believe the tree was brought down by the strong winds overnight and the impact of the tree coming down moved the house slightly from its foundation. >> i don't like to uses the word luck. i try to just say they were blessed that they didn't have any more injuries sustained. >> reporter: the woman inside

the house was taken to the hospital with what are described as nonlife- threatening injuries. the house, not surprisingly, has been condemned. in fairfax county, matt jablow, 9news now. >> matt says firefighters have not released the names or ages of the man and woman inside that house. amid violence and fairs and looting the greek parliament signed off on a measure to save the country from bankruptcy. the vote paves the way for greece's partners and the international monetary fund to release some $170 billion in new loans. now, without this new revenue, greece would default on its debt by sometime next month. we're going to be back with the cold forecast and another look at grammy fashion.

30s and 20s. 28 in downtown. dew point only 10. winds out of the northwest at 9 miles per hour. clear skies. at least the winds have abaited, and we're now looking at not as big of a windchill factor. how warm did we get today? only 33 degrees. the low this morning was 23. average high is 46. the record low on this date 4 set in 1899. we picked up a trace of snow at reagan national. that was most of it falling really early in the morning. our windchill still feels like 19 in down town. 16 in leesburg, 12 for martinsburg, culpeper 21, andrews 14. a lot of teen readings out there. the wind gusts aren't as bad, especially around the beltway, but still in the burg, 17 for leesburg, 17 for frederick but the winds won't be a big factor tomorrow. the our satellite and radar
