extension is passed. >> until you see me sign this thing, you got to keep on speaking up. >> house republicans say a vote could come by the end of the week. in washington, i'm renee marsh. >> instead of demanding spending cuts to pay for the tax cut, republicans say they would add the cost to the national debt instead. a debt already totaling more than $15 trillion. >> a detailed and difficult of the injuries to yeardley love's brain. today at the uva lacrosse murder trial, the lead medical examiner told jurors those injuries killed the college senior. bruce leshan has been in the courtroom in charlottesville. a tough day today, bruce. >> reporter: so tough that when the prosecution wrapped up with the lead medical examiner. huguely's lawyers declined to ask him any questions. >> the medical examiner says yeardley love did have traces of a prescription adhd drug in

her system. did have twice the legal limit of alcohol in her blood. but he says what killed her were injures to her brain so serious they eventually stopped her heart. it was a bad day for huguely as two neuropathologists detailed those injuries. both describe small bruises and bleeding all over the brain. christine fuller said bruises to her brain near her temples were consistent with either a fall from a height or punch to the head. particularly if the punch was into a wall or the floor. but she said those injuries were too minor to kill her. instead, both pathologists describe bruising and bleeding they found in love's brain stem. the area of the brain that controls your breathing and your heartbeat. they said those injuries were caused by a sudden snapping of her head. a twisting motion with sudden acceleration and deceleration.

huguely's lawyers forced the pathologist with no idea how much force would be required. >> investigators believe that huguely slammed yeardley love's head into either the wall or the floor of her bedroom over near uva. now, the trial is actually going late right now, but the prosecutor says if it goes late enough, he may wrap up tomorrow. anita. >> tough stuff to listen to. bruce leshan, thank you. d.c. police have arrested a man in a deadly shooting that took place outside a dupont circle restaurant last thanksgiving weekend. 29-year-old brandon terri of riverdale, maryland, is charged with second-degree murder. he is accused of shooting 34- year-old coleman of suitland outside the heritage india restaurant on connecticut avenue. police say a fight broke out at the restaurant and spilled out on to the sidewalk. >> in richmond, the house of delegates has passed a bill that would outlaw all

abortions. the rights of persons would apply from the moment sperm and egg unit. the house also passed a bill that would require every woman to have an ultrasound before undergoing an abortion. and in fairfax, a same couple living in anondale applied for a marriage license. now we introduced you to barb and last night at 11:00, their move was largely symbolic. the demonstrators gathered with them, saying they are hoping things will change. >> here we are in 2012. 45 years after the supreme court decided in loving versus virginia that interracial marriage was unconstitutional. here we sit together singing songs and supporting love. >> same sex couples tried to apply for marriage licenses in

arlington and richmond. >> maryland's general assembly is wrestling with the issue of same sex marriage and martin o'malley said he needs the support of a couple house of delegates with a bill to pass. >> seven states in the district currently allow same sex marriage and 11 allow civil unions. the challenge to proposition 8. new jersey's legislature is considering making same sex marriages legal. >> charles schumer is continuing his push to get airport passenger add have catteds at every check point across the country. and this comes on the heels of an investigation uncovering some incidents in dallas. the cbs station there uncovered these incidents in which women say they felt like they were being targeted. here's a sampling of ginger allen's report. >> the passenger was asked if she played tennis because of her cute figure. >> you think there was a party going on back there?

about president obama's budget proposal. it includes no new funding for d.c.'s private school voucher program. d.c. is the only place in the country where federal tax familiars are used to subsidize tuition. students can receive up to $2,000 a year to attend the private school of their choice. in 2009, congress agreed to phase this program out. however, there's new talk that republicans might try to keep it funded. we'll keep you posted. 10 of the 15 richest counties in the nation are right here in the washington suburbs. this according to the website, main street, which created its list from 2010 census data. puts loudoun county as number one. fairfax county is number two. howard is third. arlington is fifth. stafford county is number seven. prince william is 9th and montgomery county is the 12th richest county in the country. coming up tonight at 7:00, a youtube video of a father upset

>> yes, that is the queen of south, aretha franklin took time during a performance in charlotte to pay tribute to her god daughter, whitney houston. today, houston's family announced it will not be holding a public memorial service afterall. instead, an invitation only funeral is set for noon saturday at her childhood church in new jersey. houston died saturday at a hotel in los angeles. as we know, her cause of death is still under investigation. in the past, we've received a lot of calls when the old guard has done its cannon fire drills at arlington cemetery. we want to let you know that the group is planning to do more drills tomorrow between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. so don't be surprised if you hear some loud booms in that area. and the last hour, we are hearing from a lot of you into our newsroom about some loud booms in charles county. tonight, we can tell you that the u.s. navy's surface warfare center in indian head tells us

europe is getting hit hard by snow this winter. we've been talking about it and this morning, nasa released this image. it's hard to imagine. it was taken by a satellite passing overhead saturday. i know you were saying they have gotten all the snow and we really haven't. >> you can't make out any towns or anything. >> i got that e-mailed to me yesterday and i didn't put it on the air. >> what are we looking at? >> it was france and part of the uk. most of it was snow cover. >> yeah, they have been

getting hammered. of course, they have been getting hammered in alaska, everywhere but here. another day temperatures in the 50s. almost 10 degrees above average. let's start with a live look outside. still pretty nice out. this is a live weather cam. we're looking at temperatures. falling a little bit, but the clouds keeping temperatures up a little bit. dew points 30. pressure is still rising. 29.97 inches of mercury. and the winds out of the south at 7. the wins will turn and become northwesterly tonight. they'll pick up a little bit. in fact, small craft advisory has been posted. all right, we'll zoom in to our little wimpy storm. it fell apart as it moved northeastward. most of the moisture is pushing east. mixed precipitation in central p.a. and that is just about it. this is not -- and doesn't have a lot of upper air support to hold together. so most of the activity is
