expert hired by the defense testified that he did not think that yeardley love died from a beating at the hands of george huguely. he thought it was more like a crib death, that she was terribly drunk. her mouth and nose covered by her pillow and that she suffocated. the injuries to yeardley love's brain were subtle and apparently experts can disagree. a defense neuropathologist told jurors that saw some swelling in her brain but no obvious wound, nothing like the lacerations and bleeding in the typical victim of a closed head injury. huguely's leadoff witness suggested yeardley love's blood alcohol would have been around .10 when huguely broke through her bedroom door. the 219-pound lacrosse player told police his much smaller ex- girl friend was freaking out, aggressive, unwilling to talk and the expert said that much

alcohol would have impaired her judgment, her reasoning, her emotional control and her coordination, but yeardley love's best friend testified for the prosecution that it was huguely who was acting strangely right after he returned from love's apartment. the friend finally asked him three times what is wrong with you? all he got, a blank stare. three women also testified for the prosecution about strange texts, phone calls or noisy visits from huguely apparently right after the encounter with love. one said huguely banged on her door and window right around midnight. was it an effort by huguely to create an alibi, a sudden nighttime urge or as huguely's lawyers suggest he just wanted to spend some time with someone. we may never know. dr. jan ledsma, the defense

accident. >> we waited 2 1/2 years for them to finally come out and say this in which we've known since day one. >> reporter: in fact, admitting liability may be a shrewd legal maneuver if a judge accepts the stipulation it was all metro's fault. there's no need for the jury to hear the shocking details. according to washington trial lawyer jeff jacobavitz. >> they're trying to take that issue away from the jury. >> reporter: with no emotional testimony about fault in front of a jury, it may end up the victims' families get less. at ft. totten, scott broom, 9 news now. right now visitationunder way in honor of joshua weissman. the -- visitation is underway in honor of joshua weissman. it's taking place at a funeral home on west braddock road near king street and quaker lane. there will be some road closures over there tonight and again tomorrow for the funeral. tonight investigators say they want to take a closer look

at whitney houston's prescription medication. shelby lynn updates on the search for what killed the singer. >> reporter: the los angeles county coroner's office issued subpoenas seeking her medical records. investigators are also contacting her pharmacies and as many of her doctors as possible to determine whether she was filling multiple prescriptions. houston was found dead in a beverly hills hotel saturday. medication was found in her room, but the coroner says it was all in her name and the amount was less than is usually seen in overdose cases. she did visit an ear, nose and throat specialist known for treating sings are just four days before her -- singers just four days before her death. houston's addiction struggles cast a shadow over her career in recent years. a friend and fellow performer says more should be done in these cases. >> record companies and promoters and even the fans have to demand that artists take care of themselves. >> reporter: a private funeral will be held saturday in

houston's homestate of new jersey. pastor and gospel singer marvin winen, a close spiritual advisor to the family will deliver the eulogy. a change is in the wind tonight down at the world bank. today robert zellic announced he'll step down at end of june. the world bank says it's provided $247 billion to developing nations since his term started five years ago. at 6:00 tonight new figures out about how much we could soon be paying to drive the dulles toll road. new projections released today show that by 2018 one-way tolls on that road can go up to $6.75. right now drivers pay about $2.25. the toll hikes will help pay for the extension to dulles airport. the 23-mile silver line will cost an estimated $6.8 billion. a lot of people are asking if the d.c. council is just out

of control, the contempt displayed during a confrontation between two members yesterday is but the latest embarrassing incident. today the chairman of the d.c. council kwame brown tells our bruce johnson he's going to start tossing members out of meetings. >> this legislation paves the way for equal access to gay marriage. >> reporter: david chata'an, why an openly gay council -- tetania, an openly gay council -- catania an openly gay council member criticized marion barry's statements. marion barry played the race card. david has a pattern of attacking black men. he's as vindictive as they come. catania countered with profanity, fu marion. the subject was a united medical center in southeast. catania became outraged when barry suggested that the

hospital is losing money. >> mr. catania jumped up screaming yelling and cussing and called me pick pant. >> reporter: catania also charged ole -- despicable. >> reporter: catania also charged elvis has been seen more at the medical center than marion barry. catania wouldn't return phone calls. his staff says he'll have nothing more to say about this controversy. >> this is about every single member of the council conduct themselves properly. >> reporter: d.c. council member kwame brown says there will be no disciplinary action taken following yesterday's dust-up but he will be amending the code of conduct and tossing members out of the meeting if they cross the line during their disagreements. >> this is unacceptable and now that we have open meetings, the council should conduct themselves in a proper manner. >> reporter: jack evans, the senior council member, once remarked it's the worst council he's ever been on, that comment in public also crossing the line says brown. bruce johnson, 9 news now. >> chairman brown says the verbal assaults by council members do not violate the new

a freight plane made an emergency landing that turned out to be a belly landing overnight in brisbane, australia. the small plane was on a test flight above the airport after undergoing maintenance. the wheels wouldn't deploy, so the pilot called for an emergency landing. that plane skidded hundreds of feet before stopping, but the pilots walked away without a scratch. obviously that maintenance work left a little something to be desired. bwi marshall airport says 2011 was its best year ever, 22.4 million commercial passengers flew through bwi last year. that sets an all time record for the facility. firefighters in pennsylvania have managed to save 200 pounds of polish sausage from what they call the best smelling fire they put out in years. some grease caught fire when the smokehouse got too hot. that smokehouses 20 feet by 20 feet and belongs to a retired meat cutter who had been smoking his own sausage for about 30 years. thousands of adults won't

back now with some simple math. a penny is one cent. add a nickel which is five cents, right? well, it turns out that loose change is actually a lot different than what it costs. the government says it actually costs 2.5 cents to make a penny and just more than 11 cents to make a nickel. so for the first time in 30 years the obama administration is asking congress for permission to change the mix of the metals that go into the coins. that's all in hopes of trying to make the process just a little cheaper. >> makes sense. as parents, we do what we can to pack a healthy lunch for our kids, make sure they eat right. how does this sound? a turkey and cheese sandwich, banana, potato chips and apple juice is what one north carolina mom packed her 4-year-

old daughter for lunch two weeks ago, but here's the deal on. that particular day a state inspector came through and decided that lunch didn't meet usda guidelines. mom is not sure, why maybe lack of a vegetable? we aren't sure, but anyway the child ended up with the school lunch that day chicken nuggets. i think the first one sounded better. last year we brought you live nonstop coverage of the first ever rock and roll marathon, the only marathon run entirely in d.c. this year the adult marathon and the half marathon have already sold out, but as kristin fisher reports, the kickoff for today's kids race took place just this morning. >> reporter: these kids at barnard elementary are about to take their first steps towards running marathon and who better to be your coach than rod dixon, an olympian and new york city marathon champion. >> kids were born to move and we're not getting kids to be

available for learning, just as cute as can be. >> the kids race takes place friday, march 16th, at 5:30 in the evening. you can find out how to register on our website, www.wusa9.com. the suntrust rock and roll marathon is a day later on st. patrick's day and we'll carry it live here on 9 news now. the last of the fema trailers has been removed from new orleans. this is more than six years after flood walls and levees broke during hurricane katrina and caused the city to flood in epic proportions. the federal emergency management agency said the last trailer was taken out sunday. the agency said folks who have been living in that trailer moved into their rebuilt home last week. new orleans once had more than 23,000 fema trailers within city limits. hard to imagine. >> we complain with lights go out for two hours, seven years waiting for your house to be rebuilt. >> it's really good they are into homes and out of those trailers. >> tell us about our weather here. >> not bad, 55 today. we can't really complain in mid-
