in the dc metro. but as someone once said, don't let the smooth taste fool you. >> track -- topper shutt tracking a potential snow. >> coastal storm on sunday. this has not changed. keep your saturday night plans. they're going to be fine. we're looking at a probable start of rain. i think north and east it can be snow. but dc south and east will be rain to start but it will turn to snow from 11:00-3:00 p.m. we widened it out to 11:00 p.m. on sunday. where is the storm now? back in the southwest. some rain in west texas and all of this is going to dive go the gulf of mexico and move northeast ward as we go through saturday night and then off the coast of the carolinas on sunday. right now shower and rain today pushed away. we are left with partially

clearing skies. we'll come back. there is something brand new coming into the weather office right now. i'll come back in 10 minutes and tell you what that shows. now we get breaking news out of long beach, california. where an immigration agent killed another agent and wounding another one. this all happened inside a federal building downtown where police say that agent who opened fire was later shot and killed as well. there were several federal officers employed in the building. they all responded to the shooting which was on the 7th floor, and we'll bring you an update as soon as we know. a committee has recommended censure for ulysses currie. he failed to report money while using his influence to support the grocery store chain. he was acquitted in november on federal bribery charges. if his fellow members agree with

much all of the time. and it's ruined our life. >> reporter: jeremy glass led a charmed childhood. healthy, athletic and handsome. but a few high school sports injuries set him on a path he couldn't reverse. an addiction that began with prescription painkillers. >> he goes, mom, i thought you said drugs were bad. this is the best i've ever felt. >> reporter: in september of 2008, jeremy turned to heroin. he died in his bedroom at the age of 20. >> here is this perfectly healthy 20-year-old handsome, smart, everything to live for, and one time to get a buzz on, one time more. all those years are gone. >> reporter: police treated his bedroom as a potential crime scene. the medical examiner's arrival wads unspeakably painful. >> i knew what was coming. the body bag was coming.

and they were taking him out of our house forever. and it was -- >> reporter: now jeremy's parents want every child who does drugs and thinks it's harmless fun to picture the raw anguish of the family they could leave behind. >> imagine your parents face completely shattered. imagine your parent's face with the eyes in one place, the nose in another place, the ears in another place where nothing is where it should be. and that's going to be the look on your parent's face. >> and for the rest of your parent's lives, they'll never be a moment that's truly happy. >> reporter: if parental love and support was enough to save jeremy, he would still be alive. he was not. >> still even with that to this day, jeremy's parents are racked with guilt and plague by what if. what if they took him out of the

public school and put him in boarding or military school. what if they did more the first time they caught him smoking pot. they do find some comfort in telling their stories so others don't have to live it. an update on the dc liquor store accused of selling to teen kids. they bought the alcohol in northwest washington february 1st. dc alcohol regulators, the agency called abra, says the agency is continuing to investigate. but the story is still open and montgomery county police tell us just last friday they busted two teenagers crossing the city line with alcohol from town square market. >> i ended up following a car with two people back into maryland, and they were two 19-year-olds who had purchased and had purchased two bottles of liquor. >> sergeant white also tells us that over the course of five

nights in december, they issued at least 36 alcohol citations to minors who purchased booze at town square market and then crossed back into montgomery county. now, dc police were informed about the citations according to white, who says he was told that information was passed on to abra. now to the latest in the yeardley love murder trial. today the judge was forced to postpone mortem until tomorrow because one of the defense -- more testimony until tomorrow because one of the did he effectiveness attorneys was out sick. in 2010 she was murdered by her boyfriend. the city of alexandria came to a stand still today to honor a fallen paramedic. joshua weissman died responding to a car fire on i395 last week. ♪ music playing >> hundreds who never even knew weissman stood in the rain to

honor a man who gave his life to rescue others. his station's fire truck took the body from funeral to burial at the cemetery this afternoon. his brother gabe says joshua was born to be an emergency responder. >> josh did a fine thing and he did a lifetime of fine things and he surrounded himself by fine people. and i'm lucky to be his brother so i can bask in the blow of the life that he lived. >> weissman leaves behind his wife rebecca. the couple met 8 years ago and they were married in the year 2005. it has been a painful process that leaders of the virginia theological seminary have now decided how to replace the destroyed center piece of their alexandria campus. the historic emmanuel chapel is gone, but it will still play a role in the seminary's future. >> reporter: it stood for 129 years before being destroyed

to muslims killed around the world. he admitted that al qaeda leaders had inspired him. so attorneys for the u.s. government argued that he attempted to kill 289 people and if they left him go he would try another suicide mission. the prince george's county executive is pushing for a world class billion dollar casino resort at national harbor. here is a look at the proposed site. the developer of national harbor is endorsing the idea, but says it has to be a high quality deal. county executive baker says the casino resort would create 5,000 drops and bring into the county $50 million a year at a time when every dollar counts. legislation pending in maryland's general assembly would add prince george's county to the list of sites approved for gambling, but the plan would still need the approval of state and county voters. still ahead tonight, claim your cash rolls on. just watch for your name. and if you see it, there's a check already waiting for you.

now to the state house in annapolis where a bill to legalize same sex marriage appears to be on hold. according to the washington post, debate on the measure was cut short this evening. it turns out a delegate who supports the bill is now scheduled to have surgery tomorrow. that makes the vote tomorrow uncertain, especially since the two sides on the issue are so evenly split for and against. at last check supporters were still trying to get a couple more votes to get the 71 needed for the bill to pass. last year a similar bill failed in the house of delegates after it was approved by the senate. now the debate over gay marriage across the nation is passionate and complex, taking on issues raging from religion to civil rights. even the constitution. but derek says for him, it's a much simpler issue. >> anita, for me it all boils down to one very simple question. what if it was me. what if i lived in some by sdwlar al -- bizarre alternate universe. what if i had to pretend to like

dudes just to fit in and had to worry that if the truth came out, perhaps i wouldn't be accepted by my family or the folks at work or even the best friend i had had since fifth grade. and what if there were groups out there so offended by who i was that they promised that with a lot of work, they could cleanse my mind of those unfortunate tendencies. and what if after making it through all of that and i find someone to love, people said it's against our religion, our family values for you to have a family. suppose that was my life. suppose it was yours. now, look, i am not wise or arrogant enough to tell anybody else what they ought to believe, but i believe this. life is hard enough on its own. we do not have the right to make it harder on our fellow man who has done us no wrong. in other words, fairness. that is treating the other person the way you would like to be treated. that is a family value. anita. >> thank you, derek.

whitney houston's former husband bobby brown took the stage tonight. brown didn't appear tuesday night for a performance in cincinnati. instead the singer had gone to la where houston was found dead last saturday in a hotel. tonight fans were excited to see brown take the stage. >> maybe that will give him some type of relief. some comfort to be around people that love him. fans that really want to see him. he hasn't performed in six years. we really were looking forward to it. >> if he sit back and let himself regret as far as thinking about the bad times, he won't do it. but it's good he keep going forward. ♪ music >> meanwhile the governor of new jersey is defending his decision to fly flags at half mast. many people have tweeted comments like this one who wrote

we'll probably start as rain. dc south and east. and then change to snow late morning, early afternoon. and the critical times still 11:00 a.m. and instead of 8:00 p.m., i widened it out a little bit until 11:00 p.m. on sundays. we'll zoom out to the southwest. this is where the storm is going to be coming from. at least the energy and part of the moisture. the good news is it's producing some pretty good rain in west texas. we haven't seen much rain out there in 12, 13, 14 months really. this is going to be sunday's coastal. it will dive into the gulf coast and then off the coast to the carolinas as we get into sunday. that's why we call it a coastal. in the meantime, our rain and showers are gone. we're looking at a few leftover clouds. a few sprinkles in the mountain and that's it. here is the deal. breezy and mild friday. we're going to finish the week quite strong. grab your coats and sunglasses. it's going to be nice but the freezes will make it feel a little cooler. it's still going to be mild on saturday and still actually quite a night day on saturday.

helped the new york mets win the world series in dramatic fashion over boston. carter is considered one of the 10 best catchers of all times. now, national skipper davey johnson was manager of the squad and he released this statement today. today the world of baseball lost a hall of famer, and i have lost a treasured friend. anyone lucky enough to have been gary carter's world would agree. nobody loved life in a bigger way than gary. i loved him very much and know he is finally at peace. all right. we have to switch gears. time to announce the high school game of the week. now, rockville is dedicating this game to a young lady named lilly who is battling cancer. we'll have all of the highlights for you tomorrow night. the washington mystics have secured crystal langhorn.
