6 inches seems reasonable right now. i know six inches seems like it's up there and it is but if everything comes together, even 6 inches could be -- we'll see how soon we start to stick. let's talk about this morning, low, with the day planner because temperatures are starting in the low 40s, even upper 30s with some dense fog, especially from d.c. south and east. we'll have a sunny day. highs 50 to 55 and a little bit breezy. northwest winds 10 to 15. our advice i can'ts way down, especially at national. a quarter mile ma mass sas. look at call -- manassas. look at culpeper at zero visibility. down in southern maryland some of the advice i can'ts way down where with -- visibilities way down where we have the dense fog advisory. a quick look at radar this morning. just a few sprinkles to our north and west with a front that will get rid of the fog. here's monika with time saver traffic. >> just about 3:00 this morning on the inner loop of the beltway, it was a tractor-

trailer and a car that collided on the beltway causing a fiery and deadly crash. again just before 3:00 this morning. maryland state police as you can see have been on the scene along with montgomery county police as well. the investigation and cleanup will take a while. we do not have an eta as to when this will be cleared up. in the meantime i'll take you over to a map and show you what you can do to get around it. the beltway is already slowing down trying to get over to the accident scene. what you can either do is take southbound connecticut avenue to east west highway or northbound connecticut avenue to plyers mill. work your way around to georgia avenue and back on to the beltway to get around because you cannot go any further on inner loop than connecticut avenue. no access northbound connecticut to the inner loop as well. so keep that in mind for your traffic plans this morning. we're going to take you live outside right now if you're planning to head over to again connecticut avenue, this is where just beyond the accident scene on the inner loop near connecticut. let's take you over to the maps

again, this time over on the south side of town. northbound 395, if you're planning to head over to duke street and the 14th street bridge, it's going to be the fog you're dealing with but all lanes are open along 95 and 395. coming up in my next report, another look into bethesda at 5:09. back to you. >> thank you, monika. a town house fire sent two children to the hospital early this morning. >> prince george's county firefighters rushed to the hil- mar drive in district heights around 2:00 a.m. 9news now reporter delia goncalves joins us from close to the scene. she's on the phone with us. what do we know so far? >> reporter: well, some good news to report initially. the two and a half-year-old, a 27-month-old girl who fishily was rescued -- initially was rescued out of a window by firefighters without a pulse, they were performing cpr on the girl. i just learned from the chief of prince george's county fire her pulse has been restored. that little girl, though, still touch and go. she is in critical condition at children's hospital at this very hour. it was a dramatic scene this

morning. the fire broke out at 2:00 a.m. in a very wooded area here in hil-mar drive. we're talking about a town house that is two stories on an end unit. firefighters attacked the fire vigorously so it did not spread to the nearby unit. however, we are told that there were three adults in the house at the time, two children. one adult, a male in a wheelchair was in the basement level, was awake at time when the fire broke out, heard a smoke alarm, called the mother of the children on his cell phone, alerted her to the fire. she ran downstairs, saw flames shooting out of the kitchen and woke everyone up and ran out of the house. they were able to pull a 9-year- old out of the house but when they called 911, they told 911 that there was a toddler trapped inside her bedroom. this little girl's bedroom, the 27-month-old old, her bedroom is directly above the kitchen and that's where firefighters believe the fire started at

this point. they did transport the 9-year- old boy with smoke inhalation. he is expected to be fine. the two and a half -year-old as i mentioned cpr was performed when she was pulled out of the house. she had no pulse. however, the good news in this story right now so far this morning, her pulse has been restored. still, though, in critical condition at children's hospital. we are getting updates from pg county fire chief mark bashore and we'll continue to stay on the scene. the house is completely gutted out on hil-mar drive. that's the very latest. back to you. >> thank you, delia live on the phone low to the scene of that fire. today the final witnesses in the uva lacrosse murder trial could be taking the stand. the judge had to postpone testimony yesterday after one of the defense lawyers became ill. george huguely is accused of killing his former girl friend yeardley love back in may 2010 when both of them were students

in charlottesville. if the defense finishes its case today, closing arguments could be held as soon as tomorrow. about 170 marines just back from afghanistan came to washington for a purple heart ceremony. the awarding of the medals for those wounded in combat took place at the marine corps war memorial. the unit nicknamed the black iron marines also reunited with 16 wounded comrades at walter reed national military medical center in bethesda. they're -- their commanding officer says he hopes this visit will help all his marines recover from the physical and mental toll of their combat deployment. yesterday we told you nearly a hundred students at george washington university got sick with the norovirus. apparently they're not the only ones. in westmoreland county an elementary school is going to be closed because of it. dozens of students and staff have gotten the norovirus as well. administrators are asking parents to keep children who are at sick at home for at

least two days. it's time for the latest your money report in the morning. >> the money was flowing yesterday. >> things are looking pretty on wall street this morning. the dow starts this morning within a hundred points of the 13,000 level. nasdaq back to the same level it was in december of 2000. we are talking the tech boom days here, people. european and asian stocks are on the plus side this morning as well. checking the numbers from here at home, the dow stands at 12,904. added 123 points yesterday. that's a 1% gain. nasdaq was up by 44 points. that's a 1.5% rally. s&p 500 was up by 14. congress is getting ready to vote on extending a payroll tax cut and jobless benefits for people out of work the longest. the house and senate planned to vote today on the $143 billion package. the tax break will continue to save 160 million americans about $20 a week and the president plans to sign the extension when it's passed. if you watch march madness online, get ready to pay for

right now. over the next couple of hours as a weak front comes through, we'll see improving conditions, maybe a sprinkle with the front early but by noon we're near 50, breezy, sunny, northwest winds 10 to 15 with highs 50 to 55. a drive home temp still not bad around 50. i'll be back and talk about the weekend in the next five. right now here's monika. we're going to take a look at the map. the big story of the morning is a tractor-trailer accident from overnight closing the inner loop of the beltway after connecticut avenue. you'll have to choose an alternate route to get around that. more on that and other area roadways coming up at 5:17. making news now at 5:10, an investigation is under way into a deadly shooting at an immigration and customs enforcement office in long beach, california. f.b.i. officials say an ice agent shot and wounded a colleague. that agent was then shot and killed by a third co-worker. a former "washington post" writer and two-time pulitzer prize winner died yesterday after sneaking into syria for a report. he was a foreign correspondent

for "the new york times." the 43-year-old who had been shot in the west bank and arrested in libya had been in syria for about a week when he had a fatal asthma attack. the man known as the underwear bomber will be in prison for the rest of his life. umar farouk abdulmutallab remained definal at his sentencing -- defiant at his sentencing yesterday in detroit. he pleaded guilty four months ago admitting he tried to blow up an airplane heading into detroit on christmas day 2009. the bill to legalize same- sex marriage in maryland has gotten as far as it did last year but late dear there is a chance the statehouse could approve it this time around. we'll let you know more on that at 5:32. at 5:23, last night area basketball games included a border war involving the mountaineers. howard has the seven-day forecast with details on what might be falling from the sky this sunday. we'll be right back.

good morning. welcome back to 9news now. howard's over there looking at some weather models because things are changing. he says he's going to be updating and updating anywhere from 1 to 6 inches of snow could be falling, even in our local district area. howard, what have you been finding out? >> just as i continue to look at the weather models, the moisture is there. the cold air is going to be enough. i know it's going to be in the 50s today and tomorrow but

we'll have enough cold air in the upper level on sunday to cause snow to fall. the question is the exact track. will the moisture come in and be right over us or be going south of us more and we just get a tiny bit. we'll be able to answer those questions over the next 24 hours or so. our weekend the potential for snow. the coastal storm on sunday. keep your saturday night plans. no problems going out saturday night. even sunday morning may not be too bad except it's going to be down towards southwestern virginia. they could get hammered by sunday morning. some rain in the district and south and east and rain changing to snow late morning into early afternoon. the critical times for this event was to be 11:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m. on sunday. we may nudge those hours a little bit later today, tonight, tomorrow as we get closer to the event. the bus stop forecast today, we are looking at fog in spots early. otherwise partly sunny, 36 to 44. sunrise 6:57.

there's even an outside chance of a passing sprinkle with the front coming through early. but we are going to have a good day. 43 at 8:00. by noon 49. these winds are going to feel northwest 10 to 15, gusting to 20 at times. 4:00 p.m. temperature of 52 with highs in the low to mid-50s. can't believe we're talking 50s today and tomorrow and maybe snow on sunday. there are those few sprinkles coming through. you see them in montgomery county and back toward charlestown and harpers ferry coming in towards winchester right now. very light stuff but that's ahead of a front. we need the front to come through because the winds are kicking up behind t. you'll notice the visibilities about 10 miles. ahead of front we've got a lot of fog for dulles back toward d.c., reagan national quarter mile visibility. they've been reporting zero at culpeper for the last hour or so. look at southern maryland over to annapolis a quarter mile and baltimore a 16th. dense fog. temperatures running as cold as 36 now. 35 in reston. 36 in great falls. it's 45 up in gaithersburg.

rock ville 42. andrew is 39. baden is 41. here in washington our michael & son weather camera, we have a couple of lights coming through the fog. the last time we looked we didn't see anything. feeling like 37 with the fog and a southwest wind ahead of the front at 6 miles an hour. what we're looking at today, clear skies, clear skies tonight. but then the storm builds off to the southwest. exactly where it tracks will determine whether or not we see a little bit or a lot of snow come sunday afternoon, sunday night. 54 today. tonight the 20s and 30s. 54 tomorrow. on sunday rain changing to snow. it will be breezy. temperatures start at 40 and get a little colder in the afternoon as the coastal starts to crank up. then after sunday, looks much better. president's day 44. a lot of kids are off anyway so they may not get the snow day because they're off. tuesday 55 and showers on wednesday. monika is stepping in with time saver traffic. >> i'm sure they wish it was monday night into tuesday and it would be a four-day weekend.

the big story of the morning has been a serious and deadly crash on the inner loop of the beltway right here at connecticut avenue involving a tractor-trailer and another vehicle. it ended up being a fiery crash as well. that'sities' taking so long -- that's why it's taking so long to clear up. let's take a live look outside right now. we're getting word that crews are beginning to open up the two left lanes so you can see traffic just about starting to move on the inner loop of the beltway heading toward connecticut avenue. the flashing lights above here is where the accident is. so on the inner loop of the beltway, expect a slowdown as you approach connecticut avenue with that tractor-trailer accident from overnight. let's go back over to the maps. this time we'll head to the west side of town where there are no problems to report on the dulles toll road or 66. we'll take a live look right here on the inbound side near the beltway at gallows road and no issues to report on 66, 395, or 95 this morning. coming up in my next reports, i'll july date -- next report, i'll july date you on the situation in bethesda.

then on sunday, we may be talking about some wintry weather. lets get you going this morning with a look at the day planner. once we go through the next few hours and get rid of the fog, we'll have a nice afternoon as temperatures shoot 50 to 55 with the midday temperature near that 50-degree mark. right now we've got 41 and foggy conditions. sun is up a few minutes before 7:00 a.m. look at those visibilities. they've gotten better at dulles but from d.c. south and east, many quarter mile or less. zero at culpeper. three-quarters quantico. andrews over toward leonardtown and even pax river quarter mile. both bwi still at 16. dense fog advisory. north and west not a problem with the fog but a couple of sprinkles now. this area of showers coming toward leesburg down route 15 and route 7. this is a weak cold front that's going to get rid of the fog, kick up the winds and look at these temps this morning before you step out. you need the jackets. upper 30s to about 45 in

leesburg. let's go to monika now 5:29. you have some important information. we do i'm going to start off with some video of the accident we've been telling you about since early this morning. it happened just before 3:00 on the inner loop of the beltway at connecticut avenue. it was this tractor-trailer and another vehicle involved that ended up in a fiery crash and unfortunately one person dead as well. so the investigation is taking a while. we're taking a live look right now at the beltway. i'm happy to say that maryland state police are beginning to make some progress. we'll go to the mdot camera on the inner loop of the beltway at connecticut avenue where we've been told that the left lane is now getting through, although it still looks like traffic isn't moving very well. on the inner loop you can see the left lane just about squeezing through right now past the accident scene. we'll go over to a graphic. in case you don't want to deal with this backup, you do have some options. south of this -- south of the beltway you can take east west highway and north of the beltway you can take plyers mill to georgia avenue to get

star will be among the speakers. the autopsy won't be released till toxicology results come back. you will be able to watch whitney houston's funeral live on our website wusa9.com starting at noon saturday. whitney houston's ex- husband bobby brown plans to perform a nighttime concert after tomorrow's funeral. he took the stage last night in upper marlboro. that's where new edition performed at the show place arena. brown missed a couple of performances earlier this week after houston's death. there is a chance maryland's house of delegates will vote this afternoon on a bill to legalize same-sex marriage. lawmakers approved one amendment to the bill yesterday. it would push back the effective date on the bill from this october 1 to january 1 of next year. today the house is scheduled to consider some more amendments before a final vote could be held. lawmakers expect it to be very close, possibly a one or two- vote margin either way.

governor martin o'malley says he supports the bill. prince george's county executive is supporting a poem for a $1 billion casino and resort project at national harbor. the developer of national harbor is endorsing the idea but says it has to be a high quality project. county executive rashern baker says a casino resort would create nearly 5,000 jobs and bring to the county $50 million per year at a time when every dollar counts. legislation pending in maryland's general assembly would add prince george's county to the list of sites approved for gambling. county executive baker will join us in studio about an hour from now to tell us more about the project and why he supports it. former prince george's county executive jackson johnson is expected to report to federal prison tomorrow. now prosecutors want johnson to pay his criminal fine upfront rather than inning stallments after he's released -- installments after he's released from prison. he was fined $100,000 and

sentenced again to more than seven years of for extorts hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from developers. 5:34. time for another your money report now. >> jessica doyle is back. yesterday you warned us that some companies are watching everything we do. >> that's right. serious new developments this morning. this coming out of "the wall street journal." we told you yesterday about big privacy concerns about google and its new privacy policy tracking all of your interactions with its company like g-mail and youtube. turns out google has been allegedly tracking your cell phone, too bypassing your own security settings. the lead in "the wall street journal" this morning, google and other ad companies have reportedly been tracking activities through apple's web browser safari on iphones. the companies actually use special computer codes to bypass privacy settings. google reportedly stopped after being contacted by the paper for this story for its part. google says the journal has gotten the story wrong. the government's new consumer watchdog is going

after credit reporting agencies and debt collectors. the consumer financial protection bureau is proposing to subject these to federal oversight for the very first time. the bureau wants to send exrs to their practice -- examiners to their operations on a regular basis. oversight could be enact thed in the next few months. fortune reports that the carlisle group is looking to raise $10 billion for its next north american private equity fund. carlisle is planning an initial public offering. it's believed to be the world's biggest alternative asset manager, $148 billion in assets under management. and of course one of its co- founders is the man who donated that $7.5 million to fix the washington monument. very, very big, rich guys here in the washington area. >> imagine being able to say that sentence? i think we need to raise $10 billion. >> just for one fund. >> and being able to do it. >> that's outside of the ito. just massive amounts of money.

trapped inside her bedroom. her bedroom happens to sit right above the kitchen. even though fire investigators are still searching through the house trying to determine an exact cause, they believe the fire started in that kitchen. so you can imagine the kind of heat source that was coming through to that little girl's bedroom. she was trapped inside, pulled out of the house through the window by firefighters. she had no pulse. cpr was performed immediately though we are told by the fire chief mark bashore the good news is that her pulse has been restored. the little girl is still in critical condition at children's hospital. the 9-year-old is expected to be okay, just smoke inhalation at this point. we should also tell you one firefighter was injured as they were battling this blaze, but that firefighter is expected to be okay. that's the very latest. we'll have another update in a half-hour hopefully with some video closer to the scene and some sound from the fire chief. back to you. >> delia goncalves reporting live from that fire and at least there was a working smoke detector that alerted the family. a new exhibit is on display

welcome back to 9news now. it is 5:47 on this friday morning. delia goncalves's live shot, you can see the fog that people are dealing with who are leaving early this morning. >> we're seeing improving conditions north and west of town. dulles is up to 3 miles. the dense fog advisory is actually extended from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 a.m. now including d.c. and areas south and east. south of 66. north and west of town again no problems except for an isolated sprinkle with that front that's coming through which will eventually get rid of the fog and lead us to a pretty good day. let's talk, though, about sunday. i want to give you the checklist. when thinking about a good snow for d.c., certain things we're

looking at. we're looking at cold air, moisture and the storm track. cold air is in the medium range. we'll have enough cold air i believe and the moisture, there's plenty of moisture coming up out of the south. that's not a problem. then the only concern for snow lovers is the track. that's low to medium right now. this is why we can't tell you exactly how much snow is going to fall because depending on that track, this could miss us to the south or this could clobber us. we could get anywhere from zero -- i've seen mondays spit out 10, 11 inches of snow. i'm not buying into that but i just want to tell you there's a tremendous range of possibilities that could still happen as we get into sunday. does look like we'll get at least some snow out of this, especially sunday afternoon and evening. our bus stop forecast this morning, we've got the fog in spots especially south and east. temps in the mid-30s to the low to mid-40s. sunrise 6:57. set abouts 5:48. day planner, plenty of sunshine today. eventually the fog will be gone in another hour or two, especially south. 48 by 11:00. breezy, too, north west winds 10 to 15. gusts to 20.

3:00 53 so highs in the low to even mid-50s. we're driving home with sunshine and a temperature right around the 50-degree mark here in washington. a little front coming through. you can see some showers not far from the leesburg area extending down toward dickerson and northwest montgomery county. once that front comes through, look behind it. visibilities around 10 miles here. many visibilities though from d.c. south of 66, southern maryland over to the eastern shore, quarter mile or even less than in a few spots. baltimore down to one- sixteenths. culpeper their visibility has been near zero all morning and hagerstown 41 degrees. you can see some sunlight through the fog. there's the capitol in the back. feeling like 41 at reagan national. dew point in the upper 30s. we'll watch the moisture evaporate, mix out and turn sunny today, breezy. no problems today. clear tonight. tomorrow morning just a few clouds. a decent saturday. partly sunny with increasing

clouds late. here comes the moisture. this model has it a little south. i've seen some mondays have it up here. that's the difference a hundred miles or so. will be a big difference on how much snow we may or may not see by sunday night. here's the next three days. 54 today. 20s and 30s tonight. lighter winds. tomorrow mild, 54. breezy on sunday. rain to snow again too early for totals. as we look into monday, president's day, we'll be back in the 40s with sunshine and another shot of rain by wednesday. it is 5:50. monika santami, beltway looking better for commuters? it's looking better in that the lanes are reopening but we still have delays. what we're referring to is the accident here on the inner loop of the beltway that happened just before 3:00 this morning at connecticut avenue. it was a deadly crash and a fiery scene as well. let's go live right now on the inner loop. you can see the backup here at at least connecticut avenue. i don't think it's as far as old georgetown road but at

least route 355 with the left side of the roadway now getting through past the accident scene. but again keep that in mind for your travel plans because usually you have no delays on the inner loop at this time of the morning. we'll take you back over to the map. this time over to the outer loop of the beltway, that off ramp to route 202 in maryland is blocked off with an accident as well. crews have just arrived on the scene. we'll go live to the northbound side of 395 before you hit the 14th street bridge. an accident here along the right side of the roadway as well. coming up in my next report, i'll update you on area roadways at 6:00. making news now at 5:51, the anniversary celebrations are under way in libya. a year ago today the first major demonstration against dictator moammar qaddafi's rule took place in this city and it went on to be a stronghold for rebels. joseph kennedy iii has officially launched his congressional campaign. the 31-year-old is the grandson of the late robert f. kennedy.

ap. north adds west -- owe north and west a little sprinkle activity. by 9:00 still in the low 40s. much of the fog by then should have been mixed out as the winds will start to kick out of the northwest clearing us out by noon. upper 40s to around 50. you'll notice the breeze all day. northwest winds 15, maybe gusting to 20 miles an hour. mid-afternoon when the low to -- we're in the low to mid-50s. maybe about 54 to 55 for the high today. it's been a painful process but leaders of virginia's theological seminary have now decided to replace the destroyed centerpiece of their alexandria campus. >> the historic emmanuel chapel is gone but gary nurenberg reports it will still play a role in the seminary's future. >> reporter: it stood for 129 years before being destroyed by fire in october of 2010. it's stained glass windows irreplaceable, its history of world leaders who worshiped or preached there only part of its meaning to an epolice cal
