through the windshield. >> it like explosion. >> reporter: juan sell god owe had no idea what hit -- delgado had no idea what hit him saturday night. all he knew immediately was that he was in a lot of pain. >> my nose, i couldn't stop the bleeding. >> reporter: the blood was coming from a huge gash on his forehead split open by the deer's leg. it took 50 stitches to close, but juan is the lucky one. his best friend and wife's cousin 26-year-old rodolfo villatoro who had been sitting in the passenger seat was not moving. >> they pulled him out of the car and they start cpr. >> reporter: because rodolfo showed no signs of life no helicopter was sent juan says. >> he was such a nice friend to have. every time i used to go anywhere he would go with me. >> reporter: rodolfo immigrated from guatemala five years ago and has been living

with them since. in addition to working two maintenance jobs, he also helped take care of juan and his wife's two children. >> i kept my distance and everything, but it just happened. i couldn't do anything. >> reporter: the accident happened on route 9 just west of leesburg on their way to the charlestown racetrack. juan, a bus driver for alexandria dash, says he was going only 40 miles per hour when the deer hit them. the top of the xterra looks like a bomb hit it and the seats are covered with long white hair from the animal which died on the scene. there was a third man in the back seat. the three of them were headed to the charlestown races. he was injured more severely than juan and at last check was in intense save care at fairfax hospital -- intensive care at fairfax hospital. the prince george's county county fire department is praising neighbors in temple hills who rescued a fellow neighbor from a burning home. that fire broke out last night on beaumont street. before the firefighters could

get there neighbors gene ward and demetrius handen helped chris muster rescue his elderly dad james who was trapped on the second floor. james is generally confined to a wheelchair. his wife made this frantic call to 911. >> i've got fire in my house. i have the upstairs on fifth help me! >> i told him grab my shoulder and hold the walls and i pulled his feet two steps at a time and we got a chair and got two more people to take his hands and sat him in the chair, carried him across the street. >> another neighbor darlene townsend provided first aid. father and son were taken to the hospital with cuts and smoke inhalation but are expected to be fine. the cause of that fire is under investigation. the northwest d.c. liquor store exposed by 9 news now for allegedly selling alcohol to underage buyers was back open today after the arrest of the owner saturday night. scott broom has reactions from the town square market. >> you guys are like bombarding

us for no reason. >> reporter: actually 9news has a very good reason. town square market on macarthur boulevard in northwest washington has been exposed for its alleged underage alcohol sales. >> dozens of teenagers buying alcohol. >> reporter: first documented by reporter andrea mccarren earlier this month. >> the whole time we were down think don't think i swan of age person go in that place of -- i saw one of age person go in that place of. >> reporter: in january store owner dan ki kim denied it all and threw mccarren out of the store. he kept on with business as usual. finally saturday night metropolitan police arrested kim after district officers busted a 17-year-old virginia high school student who allegedly bought alcohol and was in possession of someone else's id. today the store was back in business. the angry clerk telling me district police have no problem with town square market. >> if the cops have a problem, then they would have closed us down. >> there's an administrative

process. >> reporter: d.c.'s deputy mayor in charge of public safety paul quander told us the question of shutting down the stores will be in the hands of abra, d.c.'s alcohol regulation agency. >> but we have sent a very clear signal with the arrest of an individual who was observed breaking the law and the administrative process will run its course. >> reporter: quander told us this afternoon abra is moving as quickly as possible even though 9news first alerted d.c. authorities to the situation at the store in early december. in the newsroom scott broom, 9 news now. one week from tomorrow voters in both arizona and michigan will head off for the polls for their state's primaries and candidates spent this presidents day trying to swing voters their way. both rick santorum and mitt romney were in ohio today. 66 delegates are up for grabs on super tuesday in the buckeye state and the latest poll shows santorum with an eight-point lead over romney nationally and now the former pennsylvania senator shifting his campaign's focus to president obama.

>> because of the mismanagement of the president's policies overseas, because of his mismanagement of the persian gulf and our friends in the state of israel. we see a tension in rising prices. >> ohio is considered a must win for the republicans no gop candidate has ever won an election without first winning the ohio primary. two weeks from tomorrow the voters in virginia will make their pick for republican presidential candidate, but a poll shows they're not so happy about the choices. just two of the candidates mitt romney and ron paul qualified to make the ballot in the primary and according to a poll by christopher newport university, only 38% of registered republicans and independents were satisfied with those choices. 57% said they'd like to see the other candidates on the ballot. maryland voters may get the final say about the state's so- called dream act at the polls november. an anne arundel circuit court judge dismissed a lawsuit aimed

at keeping it off the ballot. advocacy groups argued the measure was not subject to a public vote, but the judge disagreed. the law would allow some illegal immigrants to pay some in-state tuition at state colleges and universities. the maryland senate could take final vote this week on a bill to legalize same sex marriage. montgomery county state senator brian frost says it should pass committee tomorrow and that would send it to the senate floor. the legislation already made it through the house of delegates. the maryland senate passed a similar bill last year by a four-vote margin. well, today hundreds of women locked arms and stood silent in protest outside the virginia state capitol building. they were rallying against a handful of bills working their way through the general assembly that could put severe restrictions on a woman's right to have an abortion. among the bills in question, one that would define an embryo as a person and make it a crime to destroy it.

$3.57 and aaa says that's the highest ever for this time of year. here in our neighborhood a gallon of regular runs 3.76 in d.c., 3.65 in maryland, 3.54 in virginia and experts say the rising trend is not over and prices could indeed top the $4 mark over the summer. okay. this next story is a tad dicey. so if you got some young children around, you may want to turn down the sound for this one. all done? okay. the number of teens and kids even younger seeking sex change operations is on the rise. that's according to a new report in the medical journal of pediatrics. now it says children's hospital of boston alone has seen a fourfold increases in these cases since the late '90s. according to the report, kids and their families are sent to psychological counseling until they're 11 or 12 and then doctors prescribe puberty blocking drugs. they say that allows kids to mature and decide if they actually want a permanent sex change. proponents say withholding treatment could actually be

breaking news out of land over maryland where one person died after a car crashed into a kentucky fried chicken store. sky 9 over the scene now. this is the intersection of sheriff road and mart in luther king. investigators tell us the person who died was a customer in the restaurant. four others were hurt. fire officials say none of their injuries is considered serious. we've got a crew on the way to the scene. we'll let you know more as soon as we've got more information. on this presidents day rousing birthday cheers for george washington at his estate at mount vernon. thousands gathered this morning for a wreath laying ceremony

that allow kids to drink as a right of passage. this ain't the '60s. also on our facebook page we're getting reaction to the story regarding the number of young kids convinced they want to change their gender. erica writes god made you the way you are. leave the way you are create ad loan because you weren't meant to be another sex -- created alone because you weren't meant to be another sex, but that idea doesn't sit well with maria. why is it so hard for people to believe they are born in the wrong body. would you abandon a person you love for the one character you consider to be a flaw? jessica says how awful would it be if you the parent let your child change their sex and that child grew into an adult and realized they made a mistake? i would never let my child have an irreversible sex change until they were at least 18. this isn't an issue of support. it's about protecting your child from what could be a mistake due to emotional immaturity and insecurity.
