pressure on city leereds to do more. anny hong joins us live with more on the story. anny. >> these brave women came forward to the washington, d.c. city council here today to talk about their experiences being sexually harassed on public transit. they told us they were groped, also exposed to indecent sexual acts. city leaders were surprised to learn these claims were being committed not just by fellow male transit riders, but transit workers, including bus drivers. >> if the train is crowded and they take their hand and you know, they are rubbing your behind. >> i was riding the metro from silver spring and a man got on the station and he exposed himself to me. >> walking into metro station to go home, a young male growned me. >> they are victims of sexual

harassment. harassment not just from fellow riders, but also from metro workers. >> i actually don't feel safe on metro and sexual harassment has happened to me. >> these women went to the city council to create a public awareness campaign and how to report a sexual harassment claim. >> we aren't talking about flirtation. we aren't talking about someone asking for your phone number or go on a date. we are talking about incidents, that's not okay. >> sexually related assaults. 40 cases, proposals, or acts and 22 actual arrests. washington metropolitan transit authority sympathized with the victims and looked into taking action. >> we have been in contact with boston and during the program, they have put forward there and we will be working to

develop a similar program for washington metro. >> now, we all know that the metro system has had a lot of maintenance issues, the escalators and so he did add that funding is a huge challenge, but the victims also say other big cities like chicago, boston, new york city, have all somehow adopted a psa campaign and it has been effective. we are live in northwest d.c. 9news now. >> perhaps such a campaign could work here. thank you, anny. >> several developmentsments. virginia republicans dropped language from a bill that would require women to get an invasive form of ultrasound before an abortion. the general assembly is still debating two other bills. one that would cut funding for poor women seeking abortions and another that would define life as starting at conception. >> ladies and gentlemen, let's continue to move virginia forward by saying no to these

bills that have divided so many and would truly bring us back to the 1950s while stripping away the rights of citizens that we have in the commonwealth of virginia. >> monday, an estimated 1200 people surrounded the state house in richmond in protest of these bills. today, the house also passed another controversial bill that would let private adoption agencies deny placements that they feel conflicts with their moral or religious beliefs. >> maryland's full senate is poised to take up the issue of same sex marriage tomorrow. the bill barely passed the house of delegates last week, but a similar measure did pass the senate by four votes last year. >> the man accused of plotting to blow up the u.s. capital waved his rights to several hearings today. amine el khalifl was arrested friday. agents ael khalifl volunteered to wear a vest full of explosives. he was arrested after given that vest full of fakes.

he was ordered to be held without bond pending his indictment on the charges. jurors have been deliberating for almost 9 hours in the yeardley love murder case. bruce leshan is live in charlottesville waiting for their verdict. what's the latest, bruce? >> anita, just about an hour ago, the bailiff went back, asked the jurors how they were doing. they said that they were progressing fine, said check back in an hour. right about now at 6:00, we'll let you know what the response is to that. here's the scene a little bit. a ton of media here to broadcast the verdict when it comes down. we have a lot of cameras here, satellite trucks and you can see the cameras across the street preparing to get people out of the courthouse. we aren't sure if they are going to talk because this jury is going to go into penalty phase if it convicts george huguely of any of these crimes. now they have had a couple questions for the judge.

the first one was a question about some jury instructions that they suggest might be contradictory about intent and about causation of death. they also asked about a letter that was left out. the letter from george huguely to yeardley love and which he apologized for an earlier violent incident and promised to stop drinking so much. anita. >> bruce leshan, you'll keep us posted. we're waiting for an update. >> 9 wants you to know, the owner of that liquor store finally has a court date. richard kim owns the town square market in downtown d.c. was arrested last saturday night and charged with selling alcohol to a minor. kim's arrest came after a hidden camera investigation in which young people admitted to buying from that store and doing it for years. allegations that kim has denied. the d.c. attorney general's office says kim has a march 13

court date, but they will decide on which charges to proceed, if any, in the next couple of weeks. we found out that kim's alcohol license is up for renewal and d.c.'s alcohol licensing board is working with the montgomery county police regarding citation as they have written to teenagers who crossed the d.c. line into maryland after allegedly buying alcohol at the town square market. town square market isn't the only establishment facing charges for selling booze to minors. today, lincoln of the rug by cafe found himself in the hot seat at abc headquarters. this is the second time the georgetown restaurant has been charged. but both incidents just a month apart. april and may of last year. his licensing representative tried to strike a deal and pay a $5,000 fine. >> this establishment has taken steps to make sure that there isn't a repeat of the circumstances, including

nasa wants to learn more about exactly what makes those northern lights glow. so the agency launched a rocket over the weekend. as you can see, that created its own unique display as the rocket soared into the sky. the mission is measuring the electrician fields created by them to improve satellite signals sot lights don't disrupt those signals. when you think of the 1986 space shuttle challenger accident, this is probably the video that comes to mind. as we all watched. but tonight we're getting our first glimpse of another piece of video taken that day.

the daily mail posted an article with this video today. it was filmed by an amateur film maker who didn't realize what his video was showing at the time. bob carmen and his family were leaving a vacation at disney world when they saw challenger launch. the plumes of smoke were typical of a shuttle launch and of course they were not. the supreme court appears to be sharply divided over a law that makes it a crime to lie about having been awarded military honors. the justices had a spirited debate over that law. the stolen valor act and whether the law restricts free speech rights and therefore unconstitutional. some justices said they worry that upholding the law could lead to indivisible could lie about having an affair or college degree. others suggested the law is sufficiently narrow in its scope. still ahead, you may remember the million man march here in the nation's capital. but just wait until you hear

their votes. president obama is getting mixed reaction to his plan to lower the corporate tax rate. the president said he would like to set that rate at 28%, down from the current 35. he also wants to close dozens of loopholes in the corporate tax code that favor certain companies or industries. >> the smithsonian institution has 19 museums and in 2015, it will get an even 20. ground was broken on the national museum of african american history and culture. it will be built on the national mall right near the washington monument and staff there say they already have 15,000 artifacts ready for display. >> this building will remind us that there are few things as powerful as the people, as a nation deep in its history. >> really another way for us to tell the whole american story through an african american lens.

>> part of today's ceremony included the donation of a can of coins from students at a certain school in new york. and they collected more than $600 after learning about black history last year. they presented that money to the museum today. >> the million man march made national headlines back in 1995. you remember that. but this april, get ready for the million mustache march. i am not kidding. no april fools joke. the american mustache institute is planning a march on the nation's capital as part of the group's on gouge campaign to convince lawmakers to come up with a government incentive for men to grow facial hair. they wanted an annual tax deduction to cover mustache grooming supplies. they earn 4.3% more money than their clean shaven counterparts, so growing a mustache will help the economy. wow. wow. >> if you are trying to premier that, you really
