here's what it looks like on college park on the beltway. all lines are open. you have a few delays normal for 6:00 in the morning on the outer loo. no problems on 95 or even route 25. if you are planning to head on to 66 out of centerville, it is going to slow down just a bit from manassas to this point. a last live look as well over on the northbound side of 95 and 395. here's what it looks like at pennsylvania avenue at the willard hotel. incident free this morning. we'll look at the other area roadways at 6:12. at the top of the hour, we have a commuter alert for you. it is your chance to weigh in on the upcoming metro fare hikes. metro is expected to raise

the amount you pay to commute. here's a quick look at what metro is proposing. he wants to hike rail fares about 5%. people using paper fare cards would get a high flat fee, but metro would dump the peak of the peak surcharge. metro bus riders, 30 kenseth for using cash. the priss at parking garages would go up about a quarter. there are six public hearings over the next ten days. the first one is at the chevy chase regional services center. doors open at 6:00 with the meeting beginning at 7:00. we have a list of all six hearings on our website. look under morning news. there will be a prayer service this morning for senior rico webb. the 17-year-old died sunday in columbia, maryland. he was on the offensive line

for the stags. webb was a football recruit. according to his coach, webb complained of thing chest pains and he went to the hospital. an autopsy will determine the cause of death. webb had committed to play at alabama state in the fall. a group of maryland firefighters remains hospitalize this had morning two were critically injured in the line of duty friday night. delia has more on their conditions. good morning. >> reporter: good morning andrea. a difficult story. it has a good ending. it is a risk every firefighter takes. once they get into a home they know there is a chance they may not make it out. but there will be a long road of recovery ahead of them. 7 volunteer firefighters were injured when they rushed inside a burning house friday night. a car in the driveway led crews to believe someone may have been

trapped inside. within seconds a massive gust of winds sent intense heat and flames directly into the oncoming firefighters. 21-year-old ethan sorrell and 22-year-old kevin o'toole suffered severe burns. ee than suffered burns down to his lungs. kevin was burned over 40% of his body. his father, a volunteer firefighter himself at one., spoke to reporters. >> our family and our family and the fire service, i'm not from pg county, i'm a volunteer from new york. it doesn't matter where i'm from. >> just pray every day to bless him and strengthen him and see him through this. >> we are all a big family. although some of us are strangers, we are all the same. >> the parents are saying

support from the family of firefighters is what is getting them through the situation. coming up in my next live report, we'll hear from the other firefighters who made it out of the inferno and out of the hospital. university of maryland students are on alert after a female student was fondled and nearly robbed. she was awakened by a man touching her thigh early yesterday morning. the suspect said he was in the room by mistake and left. the woman claims her laptop had been moved and packed up. she was not hurt. police are also investigating an altercation at metro center. last night just before 6:00. two groups of children began fighting on a train platform. one of them was cut with a

knife. the injury isn't serious. a major rally to bring attention to the huge number of home foreclosures is happening today. a group called occupy our homes dc is holding a protest against freddiemac. organizers want to bring attention to deceaseful practices by institutions. jess ca doyle is -- jessica doyle is watching your money and your identity. >> the government is really trying to crack down on this stuff. specific types of cases. still the number of identity thefts involving tax and wage fraud is soaring. federal officials tell the associated press 24 of the complaints it received last year came from people concerned their social security numbers had been stolen and used to fraudulently

nomination but homeland security can approve protection earlier at the request of a candidate. a car bombing in afghanistan is the latest. afghans have been rioting after the accidental burning of qurans at a u.s. base a year ago. >> the government says it is committed to our mission in afghanistan. a car bomb slowed saint patrick's day -- exploded outside early monday. the strong blast killed several people. the taliban claimed responsibility and said the attack was revenge for the burning of qurans a week ago. the explosion follows days of deadly riots across the country. angry afghans have been clashing with police over the burning of the qurans. >> we deeply regret the incident that has led to these protests.

we are condemning it in the strongest possible terms. >> the u.s. launched a full investigation. commanders say it cannot derail the progress that has been made since u.s. forces invaded afghanistan in 2001. >> this is not the time to decide that we are done here. we've got to redouble our efforts. we have got to create a situation in which al qaeda is not coming back. >> reporter: nato pulled all foreign advisers. it was precautionary after two u.s. officers were shot. afghan police have identified the shoot and there is a manhunt underway. afghan president karzai has issued a call for calm. he said his people have stood up for their religious values. we are going to talk to howard now with beth first. it is a good start to the week

are you leaning toward mr. weinstein's pictures? have you seen any of them? >> i have seen them all. i have interviewed all the artists from the movie. i love the idea that cheryl streep was chosen. i think viola davis will win a bunch of oscars as her career continues. but it was an interesting evening to see how they made the choices. i was sorry that george clooney didn't win. because i thought it was a wonderful performance. but i saw a lot of movies i liked. i liked the descendants, money ball. >> how about you? >> i just saw tinker taylor soldier spy. what are you guys doing? >> waiting for the dvd.

have a good morning charlie. we'll be watching. take care. we are hearing from some prince georges county firefighters who were hurt in the line of duty. two of their comrades are still in the hospital this morning. delia, good morning, good morning. believe it or not it started out as a very typical fire. but we all know that changed within eight seconds. that is just how long these firefighters were inside. before a massive gust of wind from friday's intense winds created a torch like effect inside the home. essentially we are told sending a fireball up the stairwell directionally into the seven firefighters approaching the stairwell. 21-year-old either than sorrell and 22-year-old kevin o'toole suffered the most severe burns.

>> you never know, when you come out, if you are going to come out. >> i got burned underneath my sideburns and my right ear as well. possible ligament damage. i didn't notice that until the next day. when you panic, stuff goes wrong. you have to keep everything cool. you know? make sure you know hey we are trained for it. >> those firefighters were calm under pressure. they say in that kind of a situation, even though you know when you are hurt, the house is burning around you, you have to stay calm. if you do panic, things could go wrong. the two firefighters, believe it or not, 1 years old and 24 years old, respectively following the treatment and the family business their parents their fathers were volunteers or

firefighters themselves and they say regardless of the risk and their injuries, they will continue to serve. mike, andrea, back to you. their brother firefighters were busy or the weekend. several families were forced out of their homes by a fire that happened around 4:00 yesterday afternoon along sheridan street just off new hampshire avenue. firefighters rescued two people trapped inside the building. the fire left nine apartments uninhabitable. syrian officials are counting ballots amid a barrage of bombs. officials voted on a new constitution yesterday that could keep the president in power until 2028. al assad claims the referendum shows a commitment to democratic reform. a human rights group is claiming

the syrian military killed a dozen in fighting over the weekend. this morning in san francisco, regular gas averages $4.34 a gallon. while here in our area $3.72. that is according to aaa's fuel gauge report. the price of regular grade is up 7 cents in the last week and 29 cents in the last month. once again gas prices have become a political issue. maryland governor martin o'malley said president obama isn't to blame. >> the fact of the matter is domestic oil production has been increasing every year under prem. our reliance on foreign level is down to the lowest level it has been in 16 years. denver has the lowest gas prices and san diego has the lie sneeft i'm jessica doyle and
