at char don -- chardon high school. alexis christopherous has more. >> reporter: students filed out and worried parents gathered in the snowy streets to pick up their children. one mother said her daughter witnessed the shooting and that it happened in the school taft tieria before the start of first period. another student says a boy stood up and started shooting and then it was chaos. the exact number of injured is not yet confirmed, but the sheriff says five students are believed shot. four boys and a girl. a brave teacher may have saved lives by running the shooter out of the school. >> the first team of officers went in, it was determined the students had run from the building. >> officers continued to search for more. though the fbi believes there was just one shooter. as students evacuated the high school, they went to the elementary school across the street where they waited for

afghanistan says the violence will not deter america's mission to stabilize that country. an emotional memorial service for a rising football star who died suddenly after complaining of chest problems this weekend. >> reporter: they called him the generallal giant. rico webb, the 6'7" offensive lineman stood out as a power house on the field, but was kind and mild mannered in the hallways of his high school. today his classmates remember him in tears and in laughter. >> sophomore year when we were playing jv, he got in a fight with james kirk. it got a crowd around and it was pretty funny. this was right before practice.

but coach peacock made him and james walk around for about 45 minutes they walked around the entire field, holding hands. webb had a bright future ahead of him, just signing a full scholarship to play ball at alabama state. >> rico was going to be an extremely successful kid and that is one of the ways we can keep our brotherhood intact is be successful so we can tie everything back to where we all began. an autopsy is being conducted to determine the exact cause of death. two firefighters remain hospitalized after they were injured battling a blaze on friday night. the home, in riverdale heights, maryland, was empty. but a car in the driveway led crews to believe someone may have been inside.

a massive gust of wind sent intense heat and flames directly into the path of oncoming firefighters as they entered that home. 21-year-old ethan sorrell and 22-year-old kevin o'toole suffered severe burns. they are list in critical but stable condition. o'toole's father spoke to reporters. >> scary at first. you never know when you come out and if you are going to come out. >> i have burns on my left rear and my right ear as well. possible ligament damage, every time i move it now it pops. when you panic, stuff goes wrong. you have to keep cool you know, and make sure you know, hey this is what we trained for. >> a spokesperson has told us that kevin o'toole will be in the burn unit for six more weeks, followed by six months of

rehabilitation. university of maryland students are on alert right now after a female student was fondled and nearly robbed in her dormitory room over the weekend. investigators say she was awakened by a man, touching her thigh early yesterday morning. the suspect said the man was in the room by mistake and then he left. the woman also claims her laptop had been moved, and packed up, as if someone was trying to steal it. she was not injured. police are investigating an altercation that occurred at metro center. it happened last night, just before 6:00 p.m. two groups of children began fighting on a train platform. one of the children involved was cut by a knife, but the injury is not serious. one child was arrested by metro police. metro is expected to raise the amount that we pay to commute this summer but, starting today, there are some public meetings. so you can have your say. here's a quick look at what metro is proposing.

we want to update the breaking news story we started with in ohio where students were shot at a school. we just received word that one student has died. four other students were shot and injured, and a suspect has been arrested. this is chardon high school, 30 miles east of cleveland, ohio. we are looking at pictures now from the scene continuing to follow this story throughout the day. one of the five students shot has died. again it is one day before voters in arizona and michigan cast their votes. polls are showing rick santorum has a two point lead nationwide in mitt romney's home state of

michigan the two candidates are virtually tied, with each fighting hard for every vote. randall pinkston has the latest. >> reporter: just one day before the next round of primaries, mitt romney had brought the race to a virtual tie in his home state. rick santorum is trying everything he can to take back the lead in michigan. >> governor romney instituted government run healthcare, the first program running healthcare from the top down. >> santorum is fighting hard to convince social conservatives he is their best choice. he made headlines over the weekend, when he took aim at john f kennedy's famous speech from 19660, highlighting the separation of church and state. >> you bet that makes you throw up. >> romney is attacking santorum, accusing the former senator of being a washington insider. losing the state where he grew up would be a huge embarrassment to romney's campaign.

south winds of 11 miles per hour dew point to 31. really very, very nice here. other areas in the country like in the northern plains where the arctic air has returned. they are going to deal with a lot of winner weather here. meanwhile in the south, 60s and 70s in florida. they have all kinds of problem in florida trying to get the daytona 500 race in. it is all this rain moving in toward daytona. they are going to postpone the race until 7:00. temperatures by then mid-60s. still a threat for showers. could be iffy tonight as well. rain around raleigh, tracking up toward norfolk. until then, things are quiet. tuesday looks to be a mostly sunny day, maybe a few passing clouds. partly to mostly cloudy.
