the people inside had little time to get to safety. he said that's where most of the fatality that have been reported are. the town's no. 1 priority is to account for every single person. they set up a triage center at the local hospital where they're dealing with everything from bumps and bruises to severe injuries. the initial damage estimates are that there were somewhere between 250 and 300 homes damaged, somewhere between 100 and 250 people injured and 25 businesses damaged or destroyed, but that tally could go up as we begin to learn more about this tornado and just the damage that it had here in harrisburg. >> it was one of those moments where you think this is like i'm in twister. this is something that doesn't happen in harrisburg. when i came here and i saw her car, where it had been and the garage completely unscathed and her home with nothing but the foundation, it was beyond words. >> reporter: the american red cross set up a temporary shelter for those families who

lost their homes, but as you can see, judging by the damage it will be quite some time before this community will be able to return to some sort of normalcy. casey talked about the triage being set up at the local hospital in harrisburg. part of that hospital was also damaged in the storm. witnesses say the tornado ripped off part of an exterior wall. we're hearing tonight from the national weather service that tornado registered as an f-4. at least 30 people were hurt when another tornado hit branson, missouri just before 1 a.m. two hotels lost their roofs and locals estimate the damage in the millions of dollars. storm chases are caught this funnel cloud on tape in reno county, kansas. it touched down about 50 miles west of wichita. some homes and a church were damaged, but fortunately no reports of injuries from that storm. this same afternoon the same system brought severe weather weather to hardin county, kentucky. right now the weather service is investigating if a tornado did, in fact, touch down near

louisville, no reports of injuries there. again this all moving our way, right, top? >> it is. it doesn't have the same bite fortunately that's rolling through here, but there's some pretty good color showing up. it looks more like summer with the gold and red. that's actually heavy rain. i don't think we'll see anything severe, but be advised you may see street flooding here and there. we're going to zoom into this storm out to west of leesburg, again heavy rain, rainfall rates 1 to 2 inches per hour. the storm is moving easterly at 47 miles an hour. so here are some of the places it's headed, round hill 6:08, looking at percyville 6:12, lincoln 6:13 and waterford 6:19. not often we track individual thunderstorms in february, but it's been that kind of a year really. let's talk about the watch, the flood watch is west of us along i-81 corridor, doesn't mean we

can't see flooding here. thissens until 3 a.m. and covers hagertown, martinsburg, winchester back towards stanton. wide radar, these are all tornado watch boxes and all this is heading our way. so again it's going to get worse before it gets better. we'll give you the time frame and let you know if that will affect how march comes in, like a lamb or lion? reaction is starting to pour in on our facebook page tonight to a story we told you about at 5:00. this is the ad posted inside the clarendon metro station that's getting all the uproar. it reads barack obama wants politicians and bureaucrats to control america's entire medical system. go to hell, barack. we are told it's an advertisement for a documentary film on healthcare, but tonight congressman jim moran wants it taken down. sent an e-mail earlier calling the ad offensive and disrespectful. metro said its advertising is a public forum protected by the

first amendment. in the last hour we received a second e-mail from congressman moran who is disappointed with metro's response. he writes the ad should be removed because it's not political. it is profane. it degames the president of the united states in a way that coarsens the public discourse. we'll have more on this tonight at 11:00. new at 6:00 a judge blocked a federal policy that would have forced tobacco companies to put large images on their cigarette packages warning of the dangers of smoking. that judge ruled the images violate the free speech amendment to the constitution. the food and drug administration wanted the policy to take effect later this year. cigarette packages would have carried images such as a pair of healthy lungs next to the diseased lungs of a smoker. today 9 news now caught up with the prince george's county councilwoman accused of going 105 miles an hour on the beltway, but karen toles didn't seem too happen to see our proof.

to-- to see our drew. >> reporter: karen toles accused of driving 1 -- see our crew. >> reporter: container toles accused of driving 105 miles an hour down the belt way could get off. ma'am, you're not going to speak to us about this, at least tell us what happened on the roadway. >> you got a slam on the wrist? >> she should have got charged. >> in car camera speed did indicate 105 miles an hour of. >> reporter: police say toles was spotted at noon february 22nd on the beltway at branch avenue making an unsafe lane change at high speed but got off with a warning for the speed because the officer chasing her did not have radar or a calibrated speedometer to match what his in car camera logged during the chase. >> preliminarily we don't believe this police officer afforded anyone any special treatment and, in fact, we do know that he issued a $90 citation to the council member for her unsafe lane change.

the review process that's in place will review this incident in its entirety. >> reporter: this afternoon toles issued a written statement saying she will give up her county car and she has completed driver safety training. in prince george's county scott broom, 9 news now. an update on that fire that injured seven firefighters in prince george's county, tonight investigators say they know what started that fire in riverdale on friday. >> reporter: i'm kristen fisher in riverdale where fire officials are investigating two arsons. first this home was set on fire friday, but now investigators believe that this home right next-door was also set on fire a few weeks ago but went unreported. >> this cowardly crime is unconscionable to me. >> reporter: an angry prince george's county fire chief vowed to find the person or persons responsible for sending seven firefighters to the hospital. >> attention all units, 6334 57th avenue, evacuate the building.

>> reporter: six have been released from the hospital, but 22-year-old kevin o'toole is still in critical but stable condition. >> o'toole will likely remain in the hospital for many weeks and have many months of physical therapy. >> reporter: fire officials are already investigating these two arsons, but they're also looking into the possibility that this same party could be responsible for starting other fires in the riverdale neighborhood. >> i want to say to those who are responsible that you can be assured that you will be apprehended, that you will thereafter be arrested and you will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. >> reporter: in riverdale kristin fisher, 9 news now. federal lawmakers criticize the defense department for failing to create a searchable date base of people who received military medals. there was a hearing today on military records and lawmakers say a date base could help identify and prosecute people who falsely claim they've been honored. anyone making such a false claim could be prosecuted under a 2006 law called the stolen

georgia. all three states are among the 10 holding primaries next week on super tuesday. that also includes virginia. ron paul was here in the nation's capital today attending a hearing on the hill. today president obama met with congressional leaders from both parties at the white house. it was the first such meeting since last july. we're told the focus was on efforts to pass legislation designed to help small businesses. the virginia state senate today killed the last budget plan that was still working its way through the general assembly. governor bob mcdonnell could send lawmakers a new budget, but they'd have to act fast since legislators adjourn march 10th. the general assembly has juniored before without passing a budget only to return for a special session. if lawmakers fail to adopt a plan by july 1st, the new start of the fiscal year in virginia could be looking at a partial government shutdown. still ahead supporters of a plan to give men a tax deduction for some grooming supplies, may be getting support on capitol hill.

some major star power on the campus of harvard university today, lady gaga launching a product she created called the born this way foundation. the musician said the goal is to empower youth and inspire bravery and help all young people create a more supportive environment at their schools and across the world. tomorrow google's new privacy policy takes effect and it effectively consolidates the company's 70 existing policies for its various sites and services. here's what it means. for example, google maps will have access to your g mail data and that g mail will have access to your youtube history. now google's goal is to target more ads directly to you, but if you're not interested, here's some advice. first you can log out of going when you do things like look at maps oar search the web.

that's going to -- or search the web. that's going to prevent some of that tracking from happening. pc world magazine suggests logging onto google dashboard that. site lets you see the data google collects on you. then you can clear out the items you don't want associated with your account. another option is to clear out your google history. there's an option to remove all web history which will also keep google from tracking you in the future to improve its search accuracy. you can also log onto google's ad preferences page and opt out from something labeled ads on search and g mail and then there's something called the google take-out page where you can remove some of your personal data from several google services. lastly, you could just decide to remove your google account completely. that way they can't track you at all. >> i do see that they do use some of those like ppl for people or b/c for because or just cuv.

habits." >> okay. that's just funny. >> you got to laugh. >> i used to have a stash, but the wife mixed that. >> she put the kibosh on that. >> we're looking at heavier rain in the metro, not the severe weather in the midwest, but it's the same system. so it is packing a bit of a punch. a live look outside on our weather cam brought to you by michael and son looking west. so essentially behind you it would be wisconsin avenue. you're looking west toward virginia. cloudy skies, light rain, nothing terribly heavy just yet, but heavy activity is on the way. temperature-wise still 51 downtown, looking at winds out of the south, southwest at 5, pressure rising over the past hour at 29.84 inches of mercury. flood watch in effect west of town essentially either side of i-81. that's in the darker green. the lighter green are all flood warnings. so anywhere from 7:30 to 10:30 tonight which means flooding is occurring, don't try to cross a

flooded street or flooded road and you need to seek higher ground. that's pretty serious stuff. live doppler 9000 looks more like june or july, but it's not. we'll zoom into a couple of these areas that are pretty heavy. don't think we'll see anything is he vikes although we saw a little hail -- severe, although we saw a little hail earlier by percyville and bluemont. pretty heavy rain, the red indicating rainfall rates of 1.25 inches per hour and everything is headed across 15. we'll move further north and east into maryland and montgomery county and see heavy rain about to roll through sugarloaf. this is 270. so in between clarkbsurg and urbana this is headed right your way, going to pull out of dickerson and move northeastward. we'll also move south because we've seen pretty heavy activity down i-95 towards fredericksburg. so in between woodbridge and fredericksburg it's not a picnic. this is yellow, still moderate

to occasionally heavy rain, nothing severe, but enough certainly to slow you down and just kind of be pain for your evening commute. we'll be out of here for the morning commute. we'll widen out and put this into motion over the next hour. we see the activity move essentially west to east so much if you see these showers and heavier rains around 270 up near gaithersburg, it's going to move directly east into howard county. we'll keep you posted. here's the deal. drying out after midnight, another round of heavy rain, thunderstorms, too. time frame critical 7 p.m. to 10 p.m. and thursday still a lamb, yes, march still coming in like a lamb thankfully. in fact, the next seven days, really the payoff day tomorrow, maybe a few clouds to start but then temperatures in the mid- 60s. friday clouds come back, maybe light rain or showers late. most of the activity rolls in here saturday with rain showers and maybe some thunderstorms, temperatures back in the 60s and i'm holding to that snowflake sunday night, cold are sunday and monday, snow showers possible sunday night
