timothy hewlin describes his son as a fun loving man who was taken far too soon. >> it was touching. >> reporter: hyattsville resident timothy hewlin says the last time he saw his son demetrius was last year in ohio. >> hung out, had some lunch. >> reporter: that would be the last time he would ever see demetrius. >> he was a really outgoing, well-mannered kid. >> reporter: he was one of three students from chardon high school in ohio who were shot to death last monday allegedly by 17-year-old t. j. lane. a student at a school for at risk kids who prosecutors say randomly chose his victims. >> when i got that phone call last monday, it was -- devastating. >> reporter: according to timothy, demetrius has lived in ohio with his mother since he was a little boy. despite that they had a great relationship he said.

traveled all over the country together. and he can't imagine life without him. >> i'm a religious person. i believe one day we all going to meet up. >> reporter: demetrius hewlin will be buried in ohio on tuesday, two days before what would have been his 17th birthday. the suspect meanwhile has been charged as a juvenile with three counts of murder though prosecutors are hoping he'll be charged and tried as an adult. matt jablow, 9news now. turning now to else where, search teams are still going door to door tonight in rural areas across the south and midwest. they're trying to rule out more victims as the death toll climbs at 39 from last week's storms temperature national weather service says the four tornadoes that ripped through the state of kentucky were the worst to hit the region in 20 something years. susan mcginnis is in indiana tonight in one of the hardest hit areas. >> reporter: the pews at st.

francis xavier church in henryville were packed for emotional services. parishioners wiped away tears and hugged each other. by day's end the pews were overflowing with donated clothing. outside the church, smoke and gyms rolls out the barbecue to see grateful crowds. >> lot of times in these situations people don't get any hot food. so we decided to come down and cook for everybody. >> reporter: nurse penny mitchell drove five hours from chicago to help. >> miss neil? >> reporter: she went door to door checking on residents like june new who said she feels blessed in the midst of the devastation. >> there's a lot left. look around you. there's a lot left. >> reporter: but the death toll rose on sunday, 15-month-old angel back cock who was found alive in a field died of her injuries. a curfew remains in effect from 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 a.m. officials fear looting and want to keep people safe from things

like downed power lines and gas leaks. the downtown area of hard hit west liberty, kentucky was off- limits to most people sunday so crews could clear debris. paul ferguson's family survived but his house is gone. >> i watched it hit this. and then i watched it -- i watched this tree come down. last night. i dropped to my knees and started praying then. >> reporter: communities are vowing to rebuild, working oz hard as they can to -- as hard as they can to put things back together. susan mcginnis, cbs news, henryville, indiana. >> there were nearly 300 warnings and kentucky suffered the most fatalities with 21 dead. indiana has lost 13 people. there were three deaths in ohio and one each in alabama and georgia. some of the saddest news don't comes from indiana. a toddler who was found in a field by rescuers after the tornado, that little girl has died. 14-month-old angel babbitt was only 14 months old, her parents

and two siblings were killed on friday when the mobile home was destroyed. she was taken off life support and passed away late this afternoon. >> angel has been reunited with her parents. we want to thank god for all of you for all the many thoughts and prayers that you have provided. god will bring you and all of us out of this. >> at least 20 people were with angel when she was taken off life support including two sets of grandparents. the sunday morning members of a baptist church in tealike plains, tennessee couldn't even get down the street. they moved church to another location and decided after worshiping they would put on their work clothes and help out their neighbors. >> everybody's just pulling together as a family. i mean we're a town but really we're kind of acting like a family right now and taking care of things. >> we never expected we'd have to do this in our own backyard

but it's good because our community is really coming together. we can't just go home and have our regular lives because folks are in need. >> as bad as everything was it's good to see stuff happening. makes you feel good inside. >> the pastor says the church typically goes on relief missions but now they had to help their neighbors at home. the national weather service says a tornado did touch down there and tore a path of destruction for 14 miles. closer to home a multiple vehicle accident including a police cruiser. it involved a police cruiser and a metrobus and a vehicle fleeing police. it's left several people injured. the incident began when prince george's county police tried to stop a vehicle near the southern avenue border with the district. police say that vehicle took off and crashed into an suv and a metrobus at pennsylvania avenue. a police cruiser responding to that accident was then struck by the vehicle trying to get away from police. the suspect was arrested on the

scene. eight people were transported to hospitals. >> there was a collision on the intersection that involved a metrobus and at least four other vehicles. >> how many people were hurt and how seriously? >> at this time as far as i'm aware there are no life- threatening injuries. the suspect was injured as well as at least six other individuals. >> the driver of the car that police tried to stop has been charged with fleeing and eluding police. a fatal stabbing in southeast washington leaves a man dead. the suspect is a volunteer for the ward 7 d.c. council campaign of hay vis jr.. the killing happened in highwood drive. it followed an argument over the dog defecating on the suspect's lawn. robert leroy wright died at a hospital. police arrested one 56-year-old

ellsworth cobbert. >> it's very sad you know, and that's the thing. mine people are shocked. well all are. i've talked to people all over hill crest and we're just very, very shaken by the news and it's just unfortunate. i heard what it was over was about dog droppings or something in the yard and for something, a young man to go out and walk his dog and not come over something like that, it's just terrible, this is a tragedy. >> tonight he has been charged with second degree murder. family and friends gathered tonight to remember a 2-year- old girl who died after a fire in her district heights home. mariah hood was sleeping you have stairs when the -- upstairs when the fire broke out at this house on hill mar drive. the toddler was rescued and rushed to the hospital. shedded two days later. -- she died two days later: three adults and two juveniles survived. tonight there was a vigil. the fire was caused by cooking

left unattended and investigators say there were working smoke detectors in the house. an 18-year-old is found shot and abeen donned in the middle of the road and this evening prince george's county police are asking for your help. this happened friday might at term it will -- night at temple hills, maryland. they found 18-year-old delonte mccray lying wounded in the road. he was taken to the hospital where he later died. anyone with information about the case is being asked to contact prince george's county police tonight. families of september 11th don't want unidentified human remains to be placed in the memorial museum at the world trade center and tonight they're asking for a hearing. the families also speaking out against what they called the desecration of the remains from the pentagon and shanksville, pennsylvania crashes. partial remains of victims were incinerated by a military

contractor and sent to a landfill. children find the body of a missing 13-year-old east baltimore girl. the teen left home saturday night to go roller skating and never returned home. earlier today the girl's brother and her friends were searching for her in the neighborhood when they found her body buried beneath some trash on cliff view avenue. an autopsy is scheduled for monday. the search for a 4-year-old boy in carlsbad, new mexico has now is recovery mission. that's about 270 miles south of santa fe. police believe they found the body at the bottom of a deep hole in a neighbor's backyard. samuel jones was reported missing last night. today detectives found a 14- inch wide hole in the neighbor's yard and they think it may have been an old well and they found what they think is the boy's body at the bottom. >> we initially began with rescue procedures. unfortunately, it was discovered that the -- conditions inside the hole were

so what we've got going on is temperatures falling down to 34 in gaithersburg. 32 at manassas right at the freezing mark. annapolis, still not too bad at 40. and hailers town you're down to 34 degrees. all right, so we have an area of low pressure a little clipper system right here dropping in some showers into parts of st. louis through tennessee. this is an organizing and coming closer to us. probably by tomorrow morning or early afternoon. in the form of some snow showers. so that's that clipper system. it will generally be skirting by to the south of us, it's going to be brief, that's it. not a big snow maker. i don't think it will accumulate here in the area. then we're talking about a milder and nicer couple of days by the middle of the week. futurecast breaks it down for you. really kind of shows you when and where it may be snowing,
