stake for the gop race for the white house. >> voters came out in virginia, ohio, massachusetts. >> as well as north dakota, tennessee, alaska and idaho. for a look at the latest results, let's get right to gary nurenberg in our newsroom. >> reporter: nobody got knocked off. everybody got to say there was a good reason for them to stay in. the real nail biter ohio which has proven essential to republican wins in the past. right now too close to call with 84% of the vote in, rick santorum leading mitt romney 38-37% in ohio. and in the rest of the primary newt gingrich and ron paul coming in a distant third and fourth. and virginia mitt romney wins big. 59% to 49% over ron paul. the only two names on that ballot. massachusetts a big win for mitt

romney over rick santorum. 72-12%. other win for romney in massachusetts. and for neighboring vermont, romney again wins 40% to 25%. ron paul in second place. a good showing for him there. also in vermont, third and fourth place finishes those numbers coming up from ron paul and rick santorum. moving now to tennessee, rick santorum wins there over mitt romney. in tennessee romney thoughts he would do well. also in oklahoma 38% over romney. third and fourth going to gingrich and paul in that or the. in north dakota another win for santorum over ron paul in second place. mitt romney in third. newt gingrich in fourth in north dakota. in georgia a big win for newt gingrich who needed to win in his home state. third and fourth in georgia going to santorum and paul

gingrich needed that one. in idaho 16% reported mitt romney 78% over ron paul 11%. smaller numbers in idaho for santorum and newt gingrich. the idaho caucuses there. newt gingrich needed to call himself a winner tonight. ron paul continued to accumulate delegates which is what he said he wanted to do. after all the voting starts, the spinning begins. everybody accentuating the positive. romney wanted enough big wins to be the unchallenged front runner. he won enough to be considered front runner, lost enough to be unchallenged. >> i'm not going to let you down. i'm going to get this nomination. [ cheers and applause ] >> tonight we're doing some counting. we're counting up the delegates for the convention and it looks good. and we're counting down the days until november. and that looks even better. >> reporter: with no clean sweep, everybody got to brag

about something. wins and losses. >> we're going to get at least a couple of gold medals and a whole full of silver medals. >> reporter: enough to stay in. the victories in oklahoma and tennessee hurt gingrich who wanted wins there. gingrich had to win his home state of georgia to stay in it, and he won it big. >> it's one thing to have lots of money. it's another to lie about the money. >> reporter: he made it clear he's staying in. >> there are lots of bunny rabbits to run through. i'm the tortoise, i just take one step at a time. >> reporter: ron paul made it clear he's staying in as an alternative. so if you look at the candidates today -- >> so if you look at the candidates today, there is very little difference except one. >> reporter: ohio has gone back and forth. the biggest surprise, derek, we'll watch that and bring you

news as it comes. >> we look forward to that. in the meantime we have former governor bob burlich watching the polls. >> not a lot of surprise. santorum separates himself in second place and i think after all is said and done in ohio, romney pulls out a squeaker. >> reporter: we'll see if that occurs. we'll have a full sit down coming up later in the show. meantime new at 11:00, a ride at a bus -- a ride on bus hit a woman in silver spring. the accident happened near east-west highway and grub road and the rear wheels of the bus ran over the woman's foot and she became trapped. emergency crews eventually got her out of there. the bus driver also had to be treated at the scene for anxiety. nobody else hurt. you remember that prince george's councilman caught speeding on the beltway at some speeds exceeding over 100 miles

an hour. some upset she only received improper lane change. more charges were added today. matt jablow has the update on that. >> reporter: it was exactly two weeks ago that karen toles was pulled over for apparently driving more than 100 miles an hour on the beltway. >> 105 was registered on the camera in the patrol officer's car. >> reporter: toles was given a ticket for an improper lane change but not for speeding leading to speculation that she was given preferential treatment. >> he didn't have probable cause for speed. >> reporter: prince george's county police chief today announced the results of an internal investigation of the incident. an investigation that the chief said revealed that the unnamed officer did nothing wrong. >> the only way you can actually charge for speeding, you either have to pace an individual and to have that -- to do that, you have to have a certified calibrated speedometer, which he did not have. and he did not have a radar gun.

>> reporter: despite clearing the officer of any wrongdoing, the chief said a further review of the case made it clear that toles should be issued an additional ticket for reckless driving, which carries a $500 fine and will put 6 points on her license. >> i take no pleasure in this additional action but know that it's the right thing to do for our county. >> reporter: the chief says toles was given the second ticket earlier today at her attorney's office. she has a history of traffic tickets, including for speeding, but he did not go into detail. derek and anita. >> thank you for the update, matt. in tonight's health alert, a medical mystery investigation after three family members died from the same respiratory illnesses. the u.s. center for disease control are investigating the deaths. they identified the victims as 81-year-old ruth blake that died first. her 58-year-old son lowell and

her 57-year-old daughter who succumbed yesterday. the illness spread as they were assisting in caring for their dying mother. this is according to the county health officers. >> i'm just concerned. it's a really big loss to the family. >> we have a large family. everybody is concerned with what is going on. >> that was blake's nephew karl locks. he says doctors have checked other family members for symptoms. whatever this is, investigators were worried enough about it to don hazmat suits before they went into the house today. the chief medical officer talked about this. talk about a frightening case. >> what was it? what killed these people? was it flu, pneumonia. >> two tested positive for influenza a. instead of getting better, they got worse. what they think is it was some kind of super infection that caught on after they were already weakened in their immune

system by the flu. these people were coughing up blood. the doctor says the victims could the septic. well, that means the infection spread through the bloodstream and started shutting down organ systems. this is a rare case for something like this. if anybody gets sick, it is flu season out there. and you don't get better, or you or a family member start having worse symptoms, higher fever, it's not something to ignore and wait to get better. it's something to take to the doctor. >> a hard lesson learned today. tonight the man charged with killing his much older socialite wife inside their georgetown home is facing some more serious charges. today they indicted him on first degree murder charges. mooth who claims to be a general in the iraqi army is accused of beating the 91-year-old to death back in august. following the arrest, he was initially charged with second degree murder. he has denied killing his wife. now to fairfax county where a house up for sale came with

one very unusual amenity. an explosive device. a cleaning squad found it -- cleaning crew found it. a bomb squad made it safe. the realtor says the owner lives in afghanistan. his son lived in that house until last summer when he put the place on the market. now available one slightly used charming vintage dc favorite. we're not talking about topper shutt here. we're talking about the capital city diner in northeast. the owner says he's auctioning off the place on ebay since he was forced to close about a month ago. ashburn says he lost a lot of business because a national chain of breakfast restaurant moves in. and right now the price on ebay $20,000. so far only one person taking the plunge with a bid. you have until march 9th to place one. topper. unfortunately we might all bid on that. we were all 49 today.

super tuesday and a close race all night everyone. but ron paul has one at least one state but ohio. gj joins us with the latest -- gary nurenberg joins us with the latest. good to see you again, gary. >> reporter: 86% of the vote in now. santorum and romney are locked in a very, very tight one. separated only by about 5,000

votes. 38-37% right now with romney taking the lead. it's been going back and forth all night. to summarize, romney wins in virginia, vermont and massachusetts. santorum in oklahoma, tennessee. we're watching ohio closely. back to you in a bit more. >> all right. thanks, gary. i'm joined now on the interview set by bob urlick, the former governor of maryland. your guy not able to close the deal tonight. not able to pull away. maybe he gets ohio. but it's going to be 3-3 with him and santorum in the race tonight. >> not on the delegate. he wins big on the delegate count. and derek you know the bottom line here is ohio. a w is a w is a w is a w. we've seen that in american politics. whoever wins ohio, the white house is watching the race tonight. interesting results from ohio tonight. santorum underperformed. that is good for mitt clearly.

but santorum separates himself from gingrich. the interesting thing, though, gingrich wins georgia, he stays around. santorum needs to get rid of gingrich. >> nobody is out of the race. but the interesting thing in ohio voters told cbs news romney may be more electable but santorum understands us better. he's one of us. that is the problem your man has. >> that is his challenge post primary. that is his challenge against the president. no doubt about it. >> how does he solve that problem, i guess is the question? >> 1-on-1. debates really count. two really smart guys, by the way. i think mitt is going to be the nominee against the president. those debates will be highly watched. >> you would like him to be the nominee. no guarantees. >> i know. >> very quickly, though, the former first lady barbara bush says it's the ugliest race she's ever seen and that would be born out on the independence. >> i'm talking people off the rooftops every day. primaries are ugly.

people fight over primaries. i remind people jefferson was against hamilton. they were running negative ads a couple hundred years ago. they were doing the same thing. primaries are ugly. that's american politics. >> all right. we're going to take it out to gary nurenberg who has got a couple of questions for you as well. >> reporter: governor, ann romney gave a strong shout out. is that a real list? >> i have the list right here. i can't show you. bob obviously has done a great job in virginia. he's a friend of mine. that list does exist somewhere. but right now at least conceptually it exists. nobody is really talking about the list right now. it's not only winning the primary but also replenishing the funds. i do believe romney is going to win. but clearly spending a lot of money. michigan and ohio expensive states. clearly bob will be on the list with a lot of other names as well. >> reporter: what does he bring to it if they turn to him? >> virginia is a pretty

winds are going to pick up tonight and drive in milder air. 41 downtown tonight and we're looking at 31 for a dew point. remember this time yesterday the dew points were in the teens. so that means it's not going to get as cold tonight. that coupled with the winds out of the south at 11 and they're going to be picking up. look at the pressure 30.60 and rising. thank you. chilly start on wednesday. so it's going to be one of those spring days where you have your coat and then you're going to probably end up carrying it home. mild finish on wednesday. no doubt about that. even warmer on thursday and then some showers on friday. the good news is i think they're going to end early on friday. most of the showers late thursday night and early friday morning. so overnight clear skies. it will become breezy but not as cold. one, maybe two blanket night. lows in the 30s. and winds out of the southwest at 10-15. but that southwest wind will do us some favors over the course of the next 36-48 hours. mostly sunny in the morning. breezy and chilly. grab a coat. 30s and 40s. winds southwest at 10-15.

then by afternoon, plenty of sunshine. breezy and milder. highs between 60 and 65. winds even increasing a little bit southwesterly at 10-20. and kind of gusting. so high temps on wednesday. everybody should make it at least to 60. you get down towards arlington maybe 64. springfield maybe 64. low 60s in rockville. 62 in college park and in bowie. down to the south 63 in waldorf. low 60s in reston and fairfax. even manassas and leesburg should at least hit 60 tomorrow as the winds begin to blow in milder air. so your zone forecast even oakland will be a 5 tomorrow. upper -- 55 tomorrow. upper 60s in hagerstown, martinsburg and winchester. 60 in leesburg and 61 down in manassas. downtown low 60s. we're looking at winds out of the south, southwest all day. 63 at andrews. even up 270. frederick you should hit 60, 61 or 62 in gaithersburg. kind of breezy to windy on the bay. right now there is not a small
