regulations. it's very hard for me. >> kim regrets buying the store and hopes to sell it as soon as possible. how would mr. kim feel if someone sold his children alcohol? >> it's no good. it is something wrong. >> town square market recently bought on id scanner to help identify fake identification, but it may be too late. kim will be back in court on april 17. he is now at the center of two parallel investigations. this criminal one and derek, of course, the one by d.c.'s control board and as you know, town square market's liquor license is up on april 30. >> andrea, thank you. back to you. an alleged drunk driver is facing aggravated involuntary manslaughter charges in connection with a fatal crash in alexandria. 8-year-old, brian hernandez chavez was killed when he was struck by a car near land mark mall last january. prosecutors say the driver, victor, had been drinking for five hours prior to this crash.

the boy's mother suffered a broken pelvis and two broken legs. he was also indicted on charges of driving under the influence and driving without a license. another story we're covering closely tonight. a killer in kensington. a woman gunned down at a busy intersection as rush hour winds down. police released this photo of the man they're looking for. 51-year-old phillip gilberti. kristen fisher has more. >> he's a powerful guy. and he acts before he thinks. >> reporter: he's been friends with 51-year-old phillip joseph gilberti for 40 years. phil stopped by his mechanic store, so he struck up a conversation that just took place on connecticut avenue. >> i said kensington is shut down. someone just killed a lady and dumped him out. he said tom, i got to go. and i go, give me a ride, i need a ride to the metro real

quick. i go, all right. phil, let me see what's going on. i went into the shop, came back out, and he was gone. >> he was gone, but he left his van parked outside that mechanic shop. police believe just minutes earlier, that same van rolled up to this intersection. inside is believed to be gilberti and a woman. he shot her in the head before dumping her body in the middle of the street and sped off. when we asked tom if he thought his friend was capable of such a thing, he said -- >> i'm afraid so. he's a 260-pound bully. >> he has had nine restraining orders since 2004. he also has two open cases in montgomery county. domestic violence, and an on going divorce case filed in december. tom has this message for his friend. >> calm down and turn himself in. >> kristen fisher, 9news now. >> location of this morning's shooting is not far from another tragedy. it's feet away from where one of the sniper victims, lori ann lewis rivera was killed back in

2002. district police are looking for the carjacker who put a real scare into a mom in southeast d.c. her minivan was stolen and her baby boy was strapped in a car seat in the back. that vehicle was taken from their home this morning right inside the garage on suitland road. luckily it was found banded a mile away. police are looking for that carjacker. >> sentencing was handed down today for the man who set fire to that seriously injured, or i should say, set fire that seriously injured several d.c. firefighters. maurice was ordered to spend the next 25 years behind bars. pleaded guilty to setting multiple fires in the d.c. metro area. half a dozen firefighters were injured bad battling one of those blazes. burns over 30% of his body. 9 news confirmed that beginning today, members of the d.c. council are getting hit

with subpoenas. prosecutors are investigating alleged corruption and they are asking for records the dekale campaign contributions from jeff thompson. bruce johnson has been on this story from the beginning. here's his followup. >> sources say ward 7 council member has gotten a subpoena. ward 2 councilman, jack evans, has been issued a subpoena say sources. and others may be on the way as federal prosecutors seek information on all business dealings and campaign contributions from businessman, jeff thompson, dating back to 2003. thompson's home and offices were raided by the fbi and irs on march 2. >> the money orders were dated march 9 and march 10 of 2011. >> ward 5 councilman says he has not gotten a subpoena yet. but orange was forced to do a lot of explaning today. about his long time relationship with jeff thompson. orange was responding to published reports when he

produced records of 26 money orders that went to his campaigns from thompson contacts. >> what is it about these money orders that arouse suspicion? >> there may be ten in the serial numbers are all running the same sequence. >> meaning they were bought at the same time? >> bought at the same time. however, the name may have been from georgia. so that would raise a suspicion. >> talk about fraud? >> i'm not going to make that determination. >> they were bought in bundles at the exact same few places, like the u.s. post office and western union offices. jeff thompson gave more money to vincent orange than to any other council member, but he did give money to every council member with the exception of tommy wells. they are now re-examining their own campaign contributions from jeff thompson. especially the money orders. >> i mean clearly, we'll look at as we move forward.

it seems to be something that is out of control. >> council chairman, kwame brown and ten others have not yet gotten subpoenas. bruce johnson, 9news now. >> and some candidates are expecting subpoenas, because they got the contributions from jeff thompson. turning now to campaign 2012 and its southern exposure. voters in alabama and mississippi are casting ballots for gop hopefuls looking to challenge president obama. susan has the latest on the campaign trail from birmingham. susan. >> lesli, the polls are open for several more hours here in alabama and in mississippi. we are at the winfrey hotel where newt gingrich plans to hold a rally and what he is hoping is a victory party. but if you're looking at the polls and if they are correct, three out of the four candidates are now in a dead heat. newt gingrich is making one final push for support in alabama. >> i'd love to have your votes if you haven't already voted.

i e-mail all your friends or tweet them. >> gingrich is putting his focus on the south and needs a good showing in alabama and mississippi to keep his campaign alive. the former house speaker trails mitt romney and rick santorum in the delegate count. santorum says gingrich should step aside no matter what happens today. >> whether he pulls it out or not, where does he go from here? we go next to illinois and he is sitting at 10% in the state of illinois. >> gingrich says he has no plans to drop out and is vowing to continue to the convention. there is no clear favorite in today's primary, making every vote critical. polls show a tight three-way race between gingrich, romney, and santorum. the majority of voters in alabama identify themselves as evangelical. >> i'm looking for somebody with experience. i'm looking for somebody with tenacity and honesty and somebody who is a christian. >> romney had trouble making end roads with christian conservatives. >> if i become president of

the united states, my job is going to make sure that you get great jobs. we have good incomes again and gas prices down. >> he is already in missouri where voters head to the polls on saturday. but, he is hoping to pull off a victory today to show he can win in the south. >> and between alabama and mississippi, 90 delegates are at stake and many believe even if gingrich wins both states, he still faces too many states that are too tough for him to win enough delegates to take this any further. although gingrich and santorum are both vowing it take this to the convention. lesli. >> all right susan. there's a primary contest in hawaii today where republicans are holding a caucus. ron paul did not campaign in any of the states voting today. he is looking ahead to illinois, which holds a primary next week. and coming up tonight at 7:00 on 9news now debate delayed. the head of maryland senate wants to put off any talk of raising the state gasoline tax. we'll tell you why the timing is just not quite right. >> we'll see you later.

: we're learning more about the chaos aboard an american airlines flight in texas last week. this is video from a passenger's cell phone. a flight attendant had to be restrained. she went on the pa and told the

travelers she wasn't responsible if the flight crashed. we're now hearing some of the passengers 911 calls to emergency dispatchers. >> talking on the radio about crashing our plane. >> okay, who is talking about crashing your plane? >> the attendant over the pa. >> okay, you are on board a flight? >> yes. >> okay, what flight? american airlines? >> yes, please help us. >> it looks like they are physically restraining a flight attendant. >> they are physically restraining a flight attendant? >> yeah, she's lost it. >> so in its first statement, american airlines says that flight attendant has bipolar disorder and not taking her medication. celebrity chefs are rushing to the defense of an 85-year- old north carolina food critic. you know the internet meanies have been piling on maryland's rave review of the olive

now, 9sports with kristen berset. the best sports in town. >> the redskins have secured their shot at getting a franchise quarterback and wasting no time filling his cast. one of the skins biggest needs is that wide receiver and that's where they went first today. they nabbed pier, the former colt has spent all four proyears in indianapolis, starting off 16 games last season and despite not having peyton manning, he recorded career highs and catches, receiving yards, and touchdowns. reportedly signed for four years, $42.5 million with 21 guaranteed. he first made the announcement on his facebook page. saying i wanted you to hear it from me. i will be signing with the washington redskins and excited about the opportunity in front of me. he went on to thank colts fans
