arrive sometime today. many after begans are furious the 38-year-old staff sergeant will not face trial where the massacre took place. president hamid karzai is also angry and says the u.s. military is not cooperating with his investigators. >> it is by all means the end of the rope here of. >> reporter: at a meeting with victims' families karzai expressed doubt there was only one shooter. >> in four rooms people were killed, children and women were killed, and then they were all brought together in one room and then put on fire. that one man cannot do. >> reporter: cbs news learned the pentagon is investigating reports the suspect had been drinking alcohol in the hours before the shooting. the suspect's lawyer says his client witnessed a fellow soldier suffer a critical wound the day before the massacre. he also says his client is generally mild mannered. >> i questioned the family members and he had no animosity towards muslims or towards middle eastern people. >> reporter: the suspect's name being kept secret to protect his family.

his wife and two young children have been moved to a military base near tacoma, washington. >> the suspect's name will likely be revealed when he is formally charged. across maryland today a big welcome home for hundreds of soldiers. this is one of those homecomings at the white oak armory in silver spring. back home about 200 members of the army national guard. they spent a year in the sinai peninsula and their mission in egypt was to man remote observation posts and check points as part of the camp david accord. a dozen people arrested for protesting the atrocities in darfur today. actor george clooney and his dad were among those cuffed and led away by officials. both were released after paying a $100 fine and our own kristin fisher was there outside a sundanese embassy when it all went down. >> it is my first arrest. thanks for asking. let's hope it's my last.

>> reporter: george clooney just minutes after bailing out of jail. he told a crush of reporters he got arrested to bring awareness to the crisis in sudan. >> you never know if you're accomplishing anything. we're trying to bring attention to a moment in time that is actually important. >> reporter: that moment is the start of a rainy season in sudan, a time when the region is unreachable. today clooney and hundreds of protestors gathered outside the sundanese embassy and accused the country's president of using food as a weapon. they urged the u.s. and other countries to act before it's too late. >> immediately we need humanitarian aid to be allowed into the sudan before it becomes the worst humanitarian crisis in the world of. >> reporter: this event causing major disruption on massachusetts avenue. police blocked off one lane and the sidewalk was almost entirely impassable as hundreds of people tried to get up close to george clooney. clooney then made the move that got him, his father and 11

others arrested. they crossed onto the embassy's lawn. it's a misdemeanor offense, an act of planned civil disobedience and it got clooney charged with one count of disorderly crossing of a police line, but he says it's worth it if it helps the sundanese people. >> it needs to start now because best estimates are tens of thousands of people are going to die from starvation that is manmade. this isn't a familiar in. this is a manmade tragedy. >> reporter: in washington kristin fisher, 9 news now. topping tonight's campaign 2012 coverage, president obama was on his home turf for a major fundraiser in chicago this afternoon. during his speech to supporters the president called out republicans on their continued attacks on his record as president. seats at this fundraiser in chicago ranged from $2,500 to $10,000. from there the commander in chief will hop on air force one for a campaign fundraiser in

atlanta hosted by film producer tyler perry. rick santorum one of the republicans looking to unseat the president in november is a few miles away in arlington, illinois. he spoke to high school students. a group of gay rights activists plan to hold a rally protesting what they call is santorum's anti-gay agenda. this is footage of the senator campaigning in puerto rico yesterday. meanwhile former massachusetts governor mitt romney is stumping. voters go to the polls to pick a republican candidate sunday. romney spent the earlier part of today campaigning in illinois. so they are covering lots of ground. a casino at national harbor, well, build it and they will come, they as in customers and we as in taxpayers will reall the rewards for the state and county. that was the message from rushern baker, the prince george's county executive. he testified before lawmakers

in annapolis. we're looking at whether or not to approve a sixth casino for maryland. baker says they ought to and the best site would be national harbor calling it a win/win for maryland and prince george's. >> having a sixth sight come to prince george's county would. only give us more revenue, it would give the state more revenues. it would allow to us fund some of our critical needs like education, like public safety, like infrastructure. >> baker says a high end casino at the resort could generate thousands of jobs and millions of dollars in revenue. two former metro workers are expected to plead guilty monday to charges they stole hundreds of thousands of dollars. horace mcdade and john haile were arrested in january. prosecutors say they took komens from metro fare machine -- coins from metro fare machines and would routinely take thousands of dollars of coins to convenience stores and buy lottery tickets. today kaya henderson announced formation of an anti-

bullying advisory committee that will meet monthly to address d.c. school public bullying. the committee is made up of about 40 principals, school staffs and experts and that program will work to prevent bullying through several initiatives. we now know the identity of two people killed when a tow truck collided with their car, 26-year-old oli n dale sorenson and sylvia wright of silver spring. the tow truck driver was also hurt but his injuries are not life threatening, no word yet of any charges. a very big day for those of us with opposable thumbs and disposable incomes. >> that's right. apple's latest version of the ipad hit shelves and outside the apple store in georgetown this morning, let's say the line of customers literally snaked down the street, all of them eager to check out the new model and get one in their hands. it boasts a faster processor, sharper screen, better camera

to restore power to thousands in the dark and it could take days. you've heard us talk about distracted driving. here's the next step. a new report from the d.c. council for court excellence is calling for a ban on walking and cycling while texting or talking or gaming or on the smartphone. we're all in big trouble. scott broom has more. >> reporter: she's on the phone. he is on the phone and both are in the middle of the street. here comes ronna epting texting as she crosses the street. you just crossed the street looking at your iphone. >> yes. but i looked to the right. >> reporter: aren't you afraid of getting hit? >> i looked to the right really quickly. >> i'm listening to a book and playing a game of. >> reporter: you know, there's some folks in washington who think it should be illegal to cross the street while you're distracted. what do you think? >> good luck passing that. >> reporter: one thing is for sure, washington has a pedestrian safety problem. more people get hit by cars in this city than in new york or san francisco or los angeles or

here's a look at radar, light activity, light rain and drizzle essentially moving through prince george's county into southern maryland, have a wet commute going home but thankfully nothing heavy. up north this is a heavier thunderstorm because you folks made it into the 70s today around hagerstown. the atmosphere is more unstable, consequently a little thunderstorm, but it is weakening a bit. it may get to martinsburg, but by that time i don't think it will be as heavy of a thunderstorm. 60 right now in bethesda, 65 in rockville, 64 in gaithersburg, still in the upper 50s in fairfax county. you haven't had any breaks in the clouds. we're looking at 61 college park and 60 in beltsville. here's the deal. still a mild weekend. we've just been spoiled with three consecutive days in the 80s, light rain and drizzle early, end early, still mild tonight, temps holding steady. okay for the marathon and a little bit cooler sunday, but even though it's going to be cooler sunday, still about 10

degrees above average. we really cannot complain. so light rain and drizzle ending tonight, still mild, partly to mostly cloudy, low temps in the 50s with light winds and then for tomorrow morning returning partly cloudy, mild, nice for the marathon, temperatures in the 50s and 60s and not much wind. that's kind of nice. you won't be slogging against the wind tomorrow. by afternoon partly cloudy, mild, shower possible south and west and could be in parts of the metro area, highs around 70 and winds out of the east at 10. don't change your tee time or any plans for those lonely showers, not a big deal. we'll break it down. 6:00 in the morning in the 50s with clouds, 60s by noon, partly cloudy and then 69 to 74 by evening, a shower possible here and there especially south and west of town. the next three days cooler on sunday, but still above average, upper 60s. then we go back into the warm sector of air, milder monday, maybe a shower, temperatures back to the low to mid-70s.

>> reporter: one of the things that you do, guys, is when you go to these tournaments is you talk to journalists locally and regionally and the consensus here was that georgetown and belmont was an upset in the making. let's see how it went this afternoon. could jason clark and georgetown shake the first round bugaboos that's haunted them the last couple seasons? clark scored the first 5 points for georgetown, 13 in the first 20 minutes, 21 overall. now jp3's team was sharp. look at this backdoor cut by porter, 23-12 georgetown. how about the hoya defense? it was ferocious. look at jason clark sacrificing the body. belmont coming in averaging 81 points per game were nowhere near that. hoyas moving to the third round 74-59. >> any win this time of year is a great win and that's a great win against a very good team
