a notre dame team that finished third in the regular season in the big east. 15-5. syracuse regular season champs. marquette finished second and then there was notre dame. after last year going 14-4. back-to-back good, good seasons there turned in by mike brey and his staff. wells. you have to try to drive it to the goal. both teams over the limit. cooley has yet to miss. grant has been terrific. so i think you get those guys involved with whatever set you have that could get the ball inside or create an opportunity for grant to create. xavier, on the other hand, has to be ready to defend without fouling and then when the shot does go up, if it's missed, everybody has to board. jim: off on the three. wells is fouled. it will be a 1-1 at the other end. clark: that was a pretty good look. i'm not too displeased with that shot. he's made a couple of big ones. got a good look at it. defenders had backed off and important thing was you did it early. jim: the foul was on martin and that fouls him out. he got as good a look as you

could expect. clark: no question about it. jim: remember, it's a 1-1 at the other end. notre dame is out of time-outs, so whatever happens here off the free throws, at worst you have a chance for the three for the tie. you may have a chance to drive down the court and win. clark: that's why it was so important to go early to give yourself a chance for this scenario. jim: we're going to double check the time. clark: rebound -- jim: the officials are looking at this clark: actually the foul there. that's pretty close to what's on the clock, don't you think? jim: it is pretty close. they may adjust a couple of tenth. going to leave it as is, it appears. a 1-1. clark: they did at .3, jim.

anything out of the ordinary to me. clark: boy, that's a tough one there. the guys leaning in, grabbing. i'm with you, jim. jim: it's after atkins deadeyed the first shot dead center. clark: i'm not sure what happened there. they're saying it was -- they're saying it was jerian grant. here he is right here, and that is the rule. that is the rule. when you're outside of the three-point -- when you're outside of the three-point arc in college basketball, you cannot run into that foul lane area before the ball is released. jim: it happened yesterday in the syracuse game. 2.8 seconds to go. clark: and it was the right call.

i was locked into cooley and it was grant. jim: a foul called on connaughton. and they say it was intentional. clark: wow, tough way, if this ends up being the free throws that seal it for xavier, but that was the right call, folks. jim: free throws and possession. clark: yeah. grant moved early based on where he was. you can't run into that area. before the ball is released. jim: wells will shoot the free throws off the intentional foul. foul. he'll get two.

[whistle] clark: and he shot that one over the backboard. can't go from behind the backboard over. jim: xavier is going to come back from 10 down in the second half. clark: they've done it quite a few times this year. jim: going to be its sixth double-digit comeback win of the year. the largest from 19 down to beat purdue early in the season. game is over. xavier moving on to the third round!

and you can't sleep on the big kid jordan hen rick easy. k-state becomes the big team. greg a.: ohio state was terrific but jared sullinger didn't have the kind of impact i think he's going to have to this -- have in this one if they want to beat gonzaga. greg g.: cluck? charles: my head is going to explode. hahn, these referees are killing me. i know all the rules but that wasn't right what happened in that notre dame-xavier game. and i don't care what john adams or anybody says. you cannot call those calls with the game on the line. referees cannot decide the game. these guys busted their hump for 40 minutes and to make a call like that, it's a disgrace. now, murray state and marquette. i'm looking forward to that

game. murray state is built guard-oriented. canen and those guys, shoot threes. marquette can play with that but i think the difference in the game will be jae crowder. kenny: john adams, please change the rule. we don't want charles' held to explode. charles: you're trying to foul. just to make it look not intentional. but to give the team a foul and the ball -- i hate that intentional call. greg a.: kenny made a great point too. i think one thing the officials should do, why don't they warn the players before the free throw is taken. because you shouldn't want to have to call a violation. charles: i have a bailout. get the officials with good common sense. common on, -- come on, man! kenny: clean it up inside, no more elbows.
