back to you. thanks. the parents of trayvon martin were in washington again last night. >> and they reacted to some newly released video showing the man who killed their 17- year-old son. 9news now reporter delia goncalves has the story from our satellite center. good morning delia. >> reporter: good morning, the surveillance video is likely to spark more controversy and protests. even trayvon martin's parents say it discredits zimmerman's claims that he acted in self- defense. let's take uplook at that video. the -- a look at that video. the video you can see shows zimmerman in handcuffs on the night of the murder and upon closer review you can see he has no visible injuries or blood to the back of his shaved head. zimmerman later claims he fired his gun only after the 17-year- old attacked him from behind breaking his nose and slamming his head to the pavement. we now know the lead investigator wanted to in fact pursue charges. the initial police report lists the shooting as a homicide.

but the state's attorney general says there was not enough evidence to prosecute. >> i believe that george zimmerman hunted my son like an animal, tried to detain my son, my son tried to get away. and because he could not detain my son, an altercation ensued and my son was shot and killed. >> i asked them why in fact pick out my son. what was going through his mind that night. do he realize he's destroyed an innocent child's life? my son had a future. >> reporter: of course at the root of this incident, florida's stand your ground law. that allows folks to shoot and even kill someone if they feel threatened and that's what zimmerman is standing behind at this point. though no one has seen him in public since this incident first occurred.

coming up at 5:30. more on the stand your ground law and some local reaction to it. back to you. the supreme court hearings on president obama's health care reform law are over and one legal analyst summed it up as a train wreck for the administration. many court observers feel the justices will strike down the requirementer americans to -- for americans to buy health insurance. wednesday's final day of arguments centered on whether the other parts of the law could stand on their own without the insurance mandate. they are expected to issue a ruling in june. in montgomery county police say investigators discovered ring last month at the crown plaza hotel in silver spring. officers went into the hotel room and found 11 people inside, some without their clothes on. one man told officers he paid a man named bryant livingston $100 to go into the room and engage in sex. livingston is now free on bond. the prince george's county

councilwoman accused of driving faster than 100 miles an hour on the beltway says she's going to fight her reckless driving ticket. police stopped karen tolls last month. officers say she hit speeds of up to 105 miles per hour in a county car. police reviewed the case and added is reckless driving charge. her trial starts april 20th. it is 5:# 5. time for the latest your money report. >> and jessica doyle is here. >> wall street is looking across the pond yet again looking for direction this morning. european stocks, asian stocks have been trading lower today. and wall street fell ahead of a moting today -- meeting today of european finance ministers to discuss the region's debt crisis. checking the numbers -- as that debt meeting opens,

protestors and police clashed in spain today as the country's largest unions launched a general strike against unpopular austerity measures there. workers are showing opposition to job and spending cuts. the unions represent one in five spanish workers. they agreed with the government to retain minimum transportation services including only 20% of flights in and out of the country. investors are worried the debt crisis could spread to much larger economies in the euro zone particularly spain and italy. bank of america more than quadrupled the ceo's salary last year. the pay package included a salary of $950,000 and a $6 million stock award. nice money if you can get it. >> how do we do that? >> got to -- you're kidding me. whoa. what do you have for us in the next half hour? >> we're looking at parent asking money. some -- parenting and money. some bad financial habits we're

focused on the other parts of the bill. whether or not they could still stand if the requirement to buy the insurance was struck down. >> even if the court did nothing more than strike down the individual mandate, it would be a very significant victory. >> there's no contingency plains in place. we're focused on implementing the law and we are confident the law is constitutional. >> the white house expresses the confidence the law will stand, the attorneys general from about half the states are hoping to get the whole thing thrown out. trayvon martin was honored as a game changer last night on capitol hill. the group poll sicks 365 present -- politics 365 presents that honor. martin's parents received the award on behalf of their son. 9news now reporter delia goncalves is in the satellite center with new developments in the florida teenager's death. delia? >> reporter: that's right you're going to want to take a look at this. we got our hands on some fresh video that shows george zimmerman, just moments after the shooting of trayvon martin.

the surveillance video shows a handcuffed zimmerman being led into the police station. what you will not notice is any blood or head injuries. the 28-year-old neighborhood watchman claims he shot trayvon martin only after the unarmed teenager broke zimmerman's nose and slammed his head on to the ground. zimmerman is in hiding but replains a free -- remains a free man a month after the shooting but a closer look at the initial police report indicates investigators wanted to pursue homicide charges but were talked down by florida eastern general. our local tores general stopped -- attorneys general stopped by to weigh in on the case. >> i think there's certainly a positive outcome from this whole discussion which is should we have these stand your ground rules and should we be talking about racism in our justice system? and does that exist? and obviously does. and so the dialogue i think is a healthy one. but to jump to conclusion about what really happened that night

i think it's a little premature at this point. >> i would tend to agree with what doug has said. i think the dialogue is very healthy. i think that you know contrary to what seems to be the focus is the stand your ground law there in florida is not implicated here by somebody like george zimmerman who first pursued trayvon martin. >> and of course that's maryland's attorney general and followed by virginia's attorney general ken cuccinelli. the stand your ground law in florida allows you to fatally shoot someone for instance in this case george zimmerman said he felt threatened and that's why he pulled the trigger and shot and killed trayvon martin. however we know police said during zimmerman's phone call, his 911 call the police, we know the police officer told zimmerman not to follow that 17- year-old. however, he continued to pursue and eventually shoot and kill trayvon martin. back to you andrea? >> all right, delia goncalves with that update from our

satellite center. an overnight chase and crash sent at least one prince george's county police officer to the hospital. around 1:00 a.m. in chillum police spotted a car that had been connected to an earlier carjacking. authorities say the driver of that car rammed the police cruiser that was trying to stop him at eastern avenue and rigs road. two officers were inside the cruiser. the suspect's vehicle was found in northeast d.c. but the suspect remains on the loose. today is the last day for early voting in maryland. ahead of tuesday's presidential primary. the polling sensors closed at 8:00 p.m. and gop hopeful ron paul spoke to a crowd at richie coliseum in university of maryland. today mitt romney is getting a big endorsement from former president george h.w. bush. rick santorum has been campaigning in wisconsin and in california. coming up on 5:35. time for another your money report. >> jessica doyle is back with the question have you ever met

your ceo? >> well, you know this is a good question. a new survey is out and the findings are this -- one in five american workers don't even know what their chief executive looks like. maybe a little bit of a disconnect between leadership and workers here. our partners at career builder led the survey looking at how well american workers do know their senior leadership and this surprised me. 60% of workers say they have actually met their ceo. that's a good thing. by industry workers and business services sales and manufacturing are most lickly to have -- likely to have met their ceo. a majority have not. if you have bad spending habits they're not just being watched by your bank or credit card company. your kids are keeping an eye on what you're doing as well and could be developing similar bad habits. now some of the money missteps include maxing out the credit cards, so instead try using good old-fashioned cash instead. also, don't fall prey to taking out too many retail credit card offers because they promise the

dip into the 40s and 30s and potentially even freezing temperatures far west. parts of far western maryland and west virginia under freeze warnings for tonight. now tomorrow we start off sunny but in the afternoon, want you to watch the computers produce a couple of showers here as they come across the region. headed to delaware and southern new jersey and it's not out of the realm of possibilities we get a stray shower tomorrow night. but tomorrow night is beater chance. look what happens overnight into saturday morning and then saturday maybe a couple of slight sprinkles here and there. a cooler day again with highs only in the low 60s. looking better sunday, monday and tuesday. as we warm up. here are your temperatures today, 64. it will be breezy. tonight 30s and 40s. cool tomorrow, 65. light chance of an afternoon shower with a better chance of night into saturday. saturday partly sunny to mostly cloudy and cool. 62. but sunday 72. look at monday and tuesday, back 80 or better. could be a few more storms on tuesday before cooling back into the 60s on wednesday.

bw parkway or 50. the building volume to get into cheverly and kenilworth and new york avenues. southern maryland good shape so far. your next check of timesaver traffic at 6:00. mike back to you. making news now at 5:50, bluegrass legend has died. earl scruggs known for taking the banjo from a lead -- into lead instrument. not just part of the rhythm section. scruggs started playing in 1945 and he became famous for his work with lester plat and bill monroe among others. he also performed with bob dylan and elton john over the years. there's some unpacking to do today on board the international space station. an unmanned european cargo ship docked with the station last night. the ship is carrying tons of supplies and some new experiments for the crew of three astronauts. a lot of people got the message about tomorrow night's

record-setting lottery drawing. in fact so many people bought megamillions tickets the jackpot has now jumped to an even $500 million. the cash option for a single winning ticket would be $369 million. jess over to you. wow, thanks mike. this week we've been telling you about a special exhibit opening tomorrow at the national gallery of art. it's a display of 18th century japanese silk paintings to coincide with the national cherry blossom festival and we're happy to have the guest curator for the gallery. and he's here this morning to tell us more about it. thanks so much for coming in this morning. >> thank you for having me. >> it's incredibly difficult to fathom just how rare this collection is. can you give us a sense of that? >> well, these are works that are a collection of paintings that essentially represent a single artwork that is considered to be the greatest example of bird and flower paintings or nature painting in general in japan. so it's a real privilege to have them here in the national

gallery. >> tell us about the artist and how often these works of art are seen together outside of japan and even in japan itself. >> well, the artist is named ito jakuchu. he's an 18th century painter who is at this point recognized as the most celebrated painter in premodern japan. and these works have been shown together only on very rare occasions in japan. and never together as a whole outside of japan. so this is a unique occasion. >> once in a lifetime opportunity for art lovers. give us a sense of what the emotional reaction is when people walk into the gallery and see the 30 washes of art -- works of art together. what sort of reaction have you been hearing the folks? >> well the way the display is set up it reconstructs or approximates the original monastic display space for the artworks. they were donated to a zen temple in 1765 but later they left the temple in the late 19th century and entered the

imperial family collection. so what we've done is reconstructed the monastic milieu and when you stand in the middle of the exhibition space and are surrounded by the paintings you're really immersed in the oznology that they are supposed to represent as a whole. you feel the way in which they serve as a ceremonial backdrop and you feel an inner life or energy somehow coming from within emanating from within the paintings themselves. >> i have to say that's actually exactly how i felt when i was viewing the works of art together. now you've brought the catalog with you today. can you show us a little bit about that as well? >> yes, yes. this is the catalog. colorful realm the title of the exhibition and what you see here is what we believe to be the earliest work in the series. peonies and butterflies, very spring-like. appropriate way to enter the works and enter the exhibition center if you'll -- >> thank you so much for coming

5:56. not as warm today, we're not going into the 70s so a light jacket needed especially this morning as we are starting with most temperatures in the 50s and they're going to stay there for awhile as some colder air is moving in. some upper 50s well south and east. lunchtime still in the upper 50s here in d.c. with a 60 in fredericksburg and 53 in winchester, this afternoon with the sunshine the low maybe mid 60s but the winds at times will gust to 30 miles an hour. and we're driving home still sunny and 61 at 6:00 p.m. mike and andrea back to you. thank you howard. spring just over a week old but boy take a look at the cherry blossoms and other flowers, they are the full bloom way ahead of schedule. >> but something else is also growing lycra sieve -- weeds. our -- like crazy. weeds. our scott broom is looking for ways to cope. >> reporter: well, spring has sprung here in the d.c. area at least a month early and that means the battle against weeds
