. hello. thank you for joining us. i'm jc hayward. we're beginning this newscast with information from prince george's county. right now police are trying to solve four deadly shootings that happened over the weekend. the killings happened in different parts of the county. and several other victims were wounded. armando trull is live outside the police headquarters. he has more information on this

story. >> reporter: counteris certainly a bizarre and -- this is certainly a bizarre and bloody weekend in prince george's county. multiple victims, five people dead, four of those were murders. let's take a listen to what the police chief had to say during a press conference that they called to dispel what has gripped the community as fear because of so many deaths in lated amount of time. the shootings are not related and happened in just about every corner of the county, louisdale, accokeek, suitland, district heights the first shots rang out friday afternoon. the final gunfire erupted sunday morning. when it was all said and done, five people were dead and one arrested including a 32-year- old accused of killing her 82- year-old grandmother. also arrested audreyia blackwell accused of killing her friend. >> the last 48 hours -- the

past few days our community has experienced four murders and one accident which is being classified as a justifiable homicide. two of the four closed with arrests. >> reporter: the other cases are being actively investigated. in some of those cases they'll be able to close them within the next 24 to 48 hours. some of the shootings involved drug disputes in which a 17- year-old was shot to death during a gun battle outside an apartment building. that was in landover. then the shooting in louisdale involved an ms13 associate according to police. he was killed during an attempted robbery. within that, domestic dispute, just a bloody weekend that has had police scrambling the last 48 hours. i'm armando trull, pack to you. >> thank you very much. police have arrested two men they say were involved in the shooting outside an early voting place in northwest washington. one of the men is the same

person who went inside the tacoma recreation -- takoma recreation center looking for medical assistance after being shot in the leg. authorities are looking for a third suspect. voting was halted for about 20 minutes on saturday following that violence. the presentamaking its way tomorrow. voters head to the polls tomorrow in maryland and also in the district. voters in d.c. will cast ballots in the republican primary. democrats will vote in a primary for the at large city council member as well as primaries in different ward races. in maryland, there is the g.o.p. primary as well as primary races in several congressional districts and the u.s. senate race. polls in both d.c. and maryland will be opened at 7:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. tomorrow evening. newt gingrich will campaign in maryland today ahead of

tomorrow's primary. he visited the frederick motor company this morning and then he is off to hood college this afternoon. polls are showing mitt romney will be the most likely winner in tomorrow's contest in maryland and in d.c. mitt romney is sounding very confident on the trail in wisconsin one day before voters will head to their polls for their primary. republican leaders are lining up behind the former governor. they're saying that he should be president obama's challenger this fall. dan yel nottingham -- danielle nottingham has a report from the white house. >> reporter: one day before the primary in wisconsin, mitt romney is holding a solid lead in the polls there. he's taking on president obama's policies and sounding confident about the future. >> this president can't run on his record, so he's going to try in every way he can to divert to some other kind of attack and try and have people

disqualify our nominee which will probably be me. >> reporter: republican leaders have lined up behind romney in recent days and they're calling on his chief rival rick santorum to drop out of the race. but the former senator insists romney knows he's still a viable challenger. >> if it's over and there's no chance, then why is he bothering? even campaigning any more if it's over. >> reporter: the obama campaign appears to believe romney will be the g.o.p. nominee as well. over the weekend the president's feem team launched attack -- team launched attacks against the republican front- runner's policy and economic views. appearing on "face the nation ," vice president joe biden called romney out of touch. >> this is about the middle class. and none of what he's offering does anything. it's just a return to the old policy. >> reporter: secretary of state hillary clinton took aim at romney's claim that russia is one of america's biggest foes. she called that statement dated. the former governor is brushing

the criticism aside and looking for wins in maryland, d.c., and wisconsin on tuesday. danielle nottingham, cbs news, the white house. rallies calling for the arrest of george zimmerman were held nationwide yesterday, including one in alexandria, virginia. dozens of people gathered in market square. they spoke out against what they call the injustice in the killing of trayvon martin in florida. alexandria's mayor bill yule was there and he said he's concerned about the law allowing people to use deadly force in cases like this one. >> we're also concerned about the stand down your rights law that allows folks that florida has in place along with 23 other states across this great country that will allow people to use in self-defense the excuse they were attacked and that's why they did what they did. >> virginia does not have a

similar stand your ground law and mayor he euille told us he's going to use his political power to make sure one is not adopted. a local coaching legend whose story made it to the big screen has died. coach paul doc hines, the assistant coach in the movie "remember the titans" died this weekend at a rehab facility in riverdale, maryland. coach hines and others were featured in the disney movie about the legendary 1971 t.c. williams high school football team. he was 74 years old. some residents feel like they're in brand new homes in northwest d.c. the clinton global initiative teamed up with building together. volunteers from both groups worked on repair projects and former president bill clinton toured the work that the organization was performing. >> there are a lot of wonderful people who live here.

they need and deserve the work you're going to do today. >> i felt i was blessed, and with all these people around here that are helping me, i'm truly blessed. >> a few blocks away from the home project, other volunteers were hard at work inside kelly miller middle school. they assisted the uso in putting together 3,000 care packages for american troops. who are the winners of last week's megamillion dollar jackpot? that is the $656 million question. three tickets matched all six numbers for the friday night drawing. one of them was sold in milford mills, maryland but the winner has not come forward yet. the person bought the ticket just hours before that drawing. the maryland lottery offered some tips to the winner. >> our advice from the maryland lottery to whoever the winner of the ticket is to get advice.

a drug war that has left tens of thousands of innocent people dead is the subject of a new documentary that is going to be opening in our area on friday. the film is called "eight murders a day ," and it deals with the violence that is happening across the u.s. border in mexico. the mother of two young murder victims confronts the mexican president cal der reason and accuse -- philippe calderone and accuses him of not doing

enough. thenthe first lady of mexico tries to console here. i'm delighted to have the director here with me. >> there were more murders in 2010 than in the 9/11 attacks. >> oh, my goodness. you know, even when arrests are made, there's so much violence around this that it seems that instead of, you know, minimizing the violence, i understand that when arrests are made, it increases the violence. >> well, jc, hardly any arrests are ever made. over 95% of the murders in mexico are not even investigated. today the president of mexico and president obama are meeting today to discuss the drug war. a little too late because the president of mexico is leaving office in just a few months. >> you think it's too late.

what do you think would be the best thing to do? >> we have to stop our insatiable desire to illegal drugs. we're the ones demanding the drugs from mexico. we're supplying most of the weapons and cash to mexico for the illegal drugs. it's a miracle this is not talked about more when you consider there's been over 50,000 dead since 2006 when the president of mexico declared one of the drug cartels. there have been over 10,000 murders in that city since 2008. >> what is it that you're hoping will come from this documentary? >> i'm trying to give the mexican people a voice. they've been brutally cheated for so many years due to this shocking wave of violence that's going o. i'm trying to give hope to the hopeless, a voice to the voiceless. >> and the movie is coming out friday. where will it be seen? >> at the amc hoffman center in virginia and regency

april is national donate life month. the month dedicated to raising awareness for the need for organ, eye and tissue donors. wusa9 has teamed up with the transplant community to bring you the stories of those whose lives have been touched by an organ or eye tissue donation. >> when i was expecting with katrina, the doctors had noticed something was wrong with her heart. she was born with congenital heart defects and more than just one. it was pretty complicated. when we sat down with her doctors, they had said to us the best way for katrina to survive would be to have a heart transplant. she was nine weeks old when she received her new heart. >> registering to be a donor is easy. register whenever you obtain or renew your driver's license or register online at

march in washington. just put the numbers up. want to show you the warm march record we set. this was the warmest by 10 degrees above average. beat the old record by six tenths of a degree. 10 degrees above average for the entire month. this is like six weeks ahead of where we should be. this is why everything bloomed so early. the fifth straight month we've been above average and the sixth driest march. only about 1.02 inches. today dry and breezy. winds gust gusting 25 to 30. temperatures slow to get toward the low 60s for highs. 58 at 7:00. by 9:00 we're down to 556789 overnight we'll -- 55. overnight we'll be down to 30. the northern counties in carroll, washington, frederick, including martinsburg, we have freeze warnings in effect. frost advisories as close as fauquier. if you have tender plants, get them inside before things freeze up. winds gusting to 26 at national

and andrews. 28 at the pax river naval air station and low 20s on the gusts here to our north and west with with temperatures -- west with temperatures sitting in the low to mid-50s. the average high this time of year is 62. we're going to be pretty close to that looking outside on our michael & son weather camera, lots of clear skies out there. that will be the case all day with 56 degrees and a north, northwest wind at 18, gusting to about 26 or so. nationally a big ridge in the middle of the country so it's warm there. we've got some storms down in louisiana. for us one system pushed through last night. behind it we've cleared out. it's also drawing in that colder air that's giving us the chill today and also for tonight. what we're going to see tomorrow is another quiet day with high pressure in control. as we get toward wednesday, that's when we have the problem. so no problems tomorrow. lots of sunshine here. the moisture is going to move here. by wednesday afternoon from d.c. south, that's when we'll have a chance of a shower. today 62. tonight about 40 in town. low 30s north and west. even a few upper 20s not out of

last night country music honored its top musicians. the academy of country music awards aired right here on channel 9. teresa garcia has some of the winners and the interviews that you didn't see on the show. >> reporter: taylor swift won over the fans who voted her entertainer of the world. >> thank you so much to the fans. >> reporter: it was a big night for husband and wife blake shelton and miranda lambert. shelton not only co-hosted the show but also took home the award for male vocalist of the year. lambert won female vocalist of the year and album of the year. she told me before the show how important that award is to her.

[indiscernible] >> reporter: the acms featured condition's biggest stars. >> how is -- country's biggest stars. >> how is everybody feeling tonight? >> reporter: but also included celebrities outside the world of country. ashton kutcher even took a crack at singing. ♪ a love as true as mine >> reporter: fans got to see a lot more music this year. 24 acts hit the stage, the most in the show's history. rascal flatts and steve martin took part in a tribute to earl scruggs. he passed away last week. his funeral was just hours before the show started. but the night's most memorable moment came when frank tucci and christina davidson were married during the show. >> i pronounce you husband and wife. >> reporter: both lost their spouses three years ago and met in a support group. during the ceremony martina mcbride and pat monahan sang "marry me."
