ended. it means that the voter has gotten more concerned and smarter about how to evaluate what elected officials are doing. >> in ward 3, voters unanimous and wanting change. but the turnout was light here also. there may not be enough votes to change the status quo. >> there is concern about all the articles and stuff that has been out about possible corruption among members of the council and about all the campaign contributions coming from corporations. >> it is important to keep some people involved there. they know how the system works and can negotiate all the rules involved. change is needed to push the others along. >> now we should point out while the turnout is slight, there are some 6,000 people in the district who voted early and there are another 3700 who voted through absentee ballots. they are expecting some results

at 9:30 tonight. maybe final results closer to 11:00, 11:30 and we should remind you the polls are open for another two hours. back to you. >> maryland sixth congressional district is one of the hottest contested races of the election. that's because back in december, maryland's legislature approved a redistricting plan that reshaped the conservative sixth district to include parts of liberal leaning montgomery county. andrea joins us live with more. this is kind of a game changer, andrea. >> anita, in fact that redistricting led to confusion today with what is described as a moderate number of voters showing up at the wrong polling places. that despite public hearings and voter notification cards sent to each of the 99,000 voters affected. >> i guess it can be confusing, but we do what we have to do. >> confusion didn't keep

miriam from the polls. >> it makes me mad when people complain and they don't vote. >> at one montgomery county polling place this afternoon, there were nearly as many tennis players turned away as there were voters showing up. >> things are slow and as i tell everybody, i vote each election so i can complain if i don't like what happened. >> congressional redistricting has been a controversial political battle in montgomery county. with 65,000 voters having to find their way to new polling places. and a long time incumbent facing a strong challenge. >> a lot of people are unhappy with it. but like anything else, people need to get used to some of the changes. >> no hard feelings between two rival poll workers. at least not for this primary. >> we just met today and we'll

continue our friendship because it's been that nice. but this is only the primaries. i'm not going to be that nice in november. >> and there could be more change in store for the 2014 elections. what we saw today in terms of change, reflected the congressional district. the legislative district have yet to be finalized. i think there are more flies than voters. sorry about that. >> it sounds about right, andrea. thank you so much. we'll see you later on. this is also primary day in wisconsin and that's where top republican candidates have been spending most of their time. front runner, mitt romney, hopes a big night will knock out his competition, but rick santorum has no intention of throwing in the towel. >> if we have a good turnout, then i'll become the person who receives the wisconsin delegates that i need to become the know knee and finally take back the white house. >> we feel very confident that we can get a good vote out of

wisconsin. a loud, confident vote from conservatives. >> santorum is headed to pennsylvania to watch tonight's results. that state's primary is three weeks from now and it could be a must win for santorum. romney plans to watch tonight's return at an election night party in milwaukee. >> we are going deep and parsing, looking out for any surprises. bruce leshan is keeping an eye on that for us. what are you watching tonight? >> we're going to keep an eye on three different races, clearly the republican presidential primary in maryland and in d.c. huge upset if mitt romney in november beat president obama in these two jurisdictions. maryland, d.c., anything but battleground states. but, we want to look at some things in maryland to see if we can divine some stuff for november. we're going to be looking at western maryland and eastern shore and see if we can get any

sense that mitt romney may have turned the corner with a conservative voters in those two areas. western maryland and eastern shore. we are also going to be looking at montgomery county and baltimore county. big voter rich areas, swing voters, we expect. so is mitt romney firing up the voters in those jurisdictions or are we seeing better than we expected turnout in those areas? we are also going to be looking at this nasty, nasty race that andrea was talking about in maryland's sixth congressional district. and the battle here between john delany, will it be firing up people in upper montgomery county? will it be more significant turnout? if those folks get fired up, will these d.c. suburbs that are new overwelm the western maryland voters that have voted for rosco for ten different

big rigs toss around like toys. power poles ripped right out of the ground. details are emerging about the suspect in yesterday's school shooting rampage in oakland and we now know he has close ties to northern virginia. 43-year-old juan is accused of shooting and killing seven people at the university. investigators say the man had been a nursing student until he was expelled two months ago. >> he was having anger management issues. he was expelled, we believe, from the school. >> he used to live in springfield, court records show he was deep in debt. he was dealing with the death of one of his brothers almost exactly one year ago. he had a few minor traffic violations, but no criminal or violent history. >> prince georges county police are investigating an apparent murder suicide overnight. it happened in the 1,000 block

former vice president, dick cheney, is out of the hospital and resting at home. cheney had a heart transplant at anova fairfax ten days ago. a statement saying the hospital physicians and staff for the outstanding care they provided and the donor's family for this remarkable gift. the former vice president has a history of five heart attacks in his lifetime. his first happened when he was 37 years old. >> how high can apple stock go? one analyst set a target of $1,000. that's because if gains expected for apple in china. on wall street, apple stock closed at $618 a share. double what it was just one year ago. still to come when the news continues, find out why that jet blue pilot who had a

the pilot charged with disrupting a flight last week has another hearing thursday after making his first court appearance yesterday. clayton was asked not to enter a plea, prosecutors want him held without bond. passengers had to restrain him after he ran through the cabin screaming about religion and terrorists. a few of them were hurt during the scuffle.

under fire for britain's phone hacking scandal. rupert murdoch's son steps down as chairman of british sky broadcasting. the news comes weeks after he resigned as chairman of news corps' british newspaper division. the younger murdoch told lawmakers he could have done more to investigate hacking allegations. police have arrested dozens of reporters from rupert murdoch's news corporation since the hacking allegations became public last july. murdoch's news of the world tabloid shut down after revelations that reporters there hacked into the phones of murder victims and celebrities in search of stories. some megaconfusion continues tonight over the megamillions lottery. here's the question. is a woman who claims to be a winner carrying off an elaborate hoax or is this single mother of seven from baltimore richer than anyone's wildest dreams? >> i'm scott broom in baltimore. is it a megahoax or the megamillions real deal? today the woman who says she's

fix the busted pipes. foggy skies in sidney harbor made for a difficult community there. the dense fog was caused by so much moisture overnight coupled with a high pressure ridge. fortunately, no car accidents were reported. more dense fog is expected. it's very pretty to look at if you don't have to drive in it. >> a tough summer for them. they had record rain fall, cold temperatures. never felt like summer for them. maybe this weekend is looking to be better. in fact, we're looking at warmer conditions. pretty nice today, wasn't it? >> it was lovely. sun was out. >> we like it. and temperatures getting into the 70s today. well above the average high of lower 60s. i think no one is complaining about that. our michael and son weather camera. beautiful shot of the white house on this tuesday afternoon. pretty terrific out there. it's 70 degrees at this hour. lots of sun.

north, northeast at 7 miles per hour. our satellite radar picture showing us, we had severe storms going through texas and tornadoes. a couple had been reported. there's still a tornado watch for a couple more hours. in our area, we have the ridge of high pressure moving off the coast tonight. making way for some clouds and maybe a little bit of shower activity for tomorrow afternoon. right now though, go outside and enjoy that run, that bike ride, 70 in winchester. lower 70 in culpeper. fredericksburg, you're in the mid 70s. cooler toward the bay. lower 60s for annapolis. 66 in gaithersburg and downtown we're looking at 70 degrees. okay. so we're looking at that ridge of high pressure to move off the coast and a couple showers tomorrow afternoon, generally south of town. so, we're going to expect warmer conditions tomorrow. a little bit compared to today and cool down. not as cold tonight. warmer for your wednesday

afternoon. some showers possible south of town and it will be cooler for thursday and friday. what is taking place is a cold front coming through. behind that front, we'll see cooler air, but for tomorrow morning, we're going to expect sunny conditions, a couple showers possible. the further south you are, like around fredericksburg, orange, pax river, you may see showers in the evening hours. some of it may be heavy or moderate. also including a couple thunderstorms can be possible. but for tonight, should be quiet. partly to mostly cloudy, not as cold. a slight chance for a late shower. lows 50 to 55 degrees. in downtown. close to 50. 50 in leesburg. haggerstown in the lower os. no freezing readings for you by tomorrow morning. tomorrow, should be a fairly nice start. mostly cloudy. cool. grab a light jacket. for the afternoon, looking at partly sunny conditions. it will be warmer. highs near 75 degrees. in western maryland, 68 for
