santorum insists the race isn't over yet. danielle nottingham, cbs news, washington. newt gingrich had no campaign events yesterday. ron paul appeared at a town hall in chico, california. in our area one of the most watched races from last night focused on the newly redrawn district sixth in maryland. john delaney won his party's nomination with 54% of the vote. come november, he'll face incumbent ross company bartlet. bartlet won g.o.p. nomination with 43% of the vote. turning now to the race results in the district. right now it is an extremely tight race for the d.c. council at large seat incumbent vincent orange is slightly ahead but there is still a number of provisional ballots before the whole race can be counted. >> in ward 4bartow won the nomination. in ward 7 yvette alexander won

with 41% of the vote. in ward 8 marion barry won the democratic nomination by a landslide. 72% of the vote. >> reporter: the 75-year-old d.c. mayor had captured more than 70% of the vote in ward 8. a landslide and marion barry was quick to point out the critics had been wrong. >> all the people banded together and we kicked their behinds. >> reporter: vincent orange fighting for his political life says voters want a reformed council. >> the powers that be really want to deal with ethics, then they should join me in pushing and promoting my bill to ban

him to virginia to face the charges here first. hands off or you will get reported. that's the message from metro when it comes to groping or inappropriate contact on trains or buses. they're starting a new campaign to stop sexual harassment. riders can report problems by filing an online form. you can stay anonymous if you want to or put your name in. there will also be posters like this one here seen throughout the system to bring awareness to the program. former vice president dick cheney waited nearly two years for a donor and now his heart transplant is deplete and he's resting -- complete and is resting at home. the family does not know the donor. since the age of 37 he's had five heart attacks. he's now 71 years old. the most recent heart attack was in 2010. at 4:33, here's a look at some other things making news now. the korean community in oakland, california came together for a memorial last night to honor the victims of the school shooting at oikos

university. police say one goh shot and killed seven people monday because he was angry at an administrator and students who teased him. investigators say goh had been expelled from the private christian college a few months ago. 9news now has learned goh once lived in springfield, virginia. he had no criminal history here. could the megamillions lottery mystery in maryland become a little more clear today? the winner told "the new york post" she had one of the three winning tickets from last friday's $656 million jackpot. her co-workers said it was one of the tickets they purchased in an office pool. wilson claims otherwise. no one has actually stepped forward with the winning ticket. the national weather service estimates as many as a dozen tornadoes ripped through north texas tuesday. crews will spread out across the damaged area today to

confirm the numbers and assess the damage. >> tornadoes flattened trucks, threw big rigs across parking lots and damaged homes and businesses. karen brown reports. >> oh, my god. >> reporter: lancaster resident vincent climbed up on the roof of his house to get these images of a tornado. >> oh, my god. >> reporter: debris could be seen flying through the air. >> it was really scary. i was never scared like this. >> reporter: the national weather service estimates as many as a dozen tornadoes touched down early tuesday afternoon. one driver captured this dramatic video of a tornado forming right over the roadway in arlington. the twister scattered tractor- trailers across a parking lot. one landed on top of a car. others lodged in trees. here at this elementary school, part of the roof was torn off while the children were still

inside. one mom had just gone in to pick up her child when the tornado picked up her car and threw it across the parking lot. dawn henderson rode out the storm in the bathroom of her business which is now almost completely destroyed. >> this is material things and it's really sad but we're okay and that's the main part. >> reporter: firefighters salvaged what they could from damaged homes. residents tried to fetch their belongings in the pouring rain and those who lived in this damaged nursing home in arlington had to be relocated after riding out the storm safely. the full extent of the destruction is still unknown. karen brown, cbs news, forney, texas. the time is 4:36. a social networking giant fires back at a internet company. college graduates are in far better shape than recent grads when it comes to finding a job. we're back in two minutes

4:47. it is time for the first your money segment of the morning. and jessica doyle is here. >> i'm interested to find out because i didn't see any wall street numbers yesterday. >> wall street has been dealing with some job jitters. the federal reserve is worried that hiring might slow down if the economy doesn't pick up. policymakers agreed to keep interest rates low for at least the next two years but didn't recommend any other stimulus for the economy. this news caused the dow to snap a three-day winning streak. checking the numbers it stands this morning at 13,199. dropped about 65 points in trading yesterday. nasdaq was up by 6 and the s&p 500 was down by 5. facebook is striking back at yahoo. the social networking site is filing its own lawsuit against the struggling internet company. it accuses yahoo of violating ten of its patents. facebook's lawsuits come just weeks after yahoo accused facebook of infringing on ten of its patents. both companies deny the allegations.

good morning. welcome back to 9news now. the time is 4:43 this wednesday morning and we're still marveling over the crystal clear blue skies we had yesterday. a beautiful, beautiful day. with a little rain in some spots. >> nothing like what they had in texas yesterday.

somebody said to me, is this unusual to have storms in dallas? is it early? no, it's the heart of the tornado season in the plain states. i lived in oklahoma city. worked there for a few years. mid march to mid june really was about the hardest is a -- heart of the severe weather system and then the tornadoes would head to the dakotas, southern canada. unfortunately they got hit hard yesterday. on the plus side, there weren't any reports of deaths from that in spite of the amazing picks. you saw the trucks flying around. one thing we need, we need a little bit of storms here, not to that severity but we need some rain. we're running quite a deficit just for the first three months or so of the year. we're down 2 to 3 and a half inches. we should have closer to 9 or 10 inches. not 6 in change in parts of martinsburg and 6 and three- quarters up in baltimore. that should be more than 10 inches. we need to get some rain around here on a more regular basis or we'll get in trouble here this

summer. the drier we are, the warmer we're going to be and clearly march was a warm, dry month. we're looking at partly cloudy skies. 40s and 50s. definitely jackets out there. sunrise 6:47 but a warm afternoon in store for us. not as pretty as yesterday. we'll have a mix of sun and clouds all day long. northwest winds 10, 11 miles an hour. mid afternoon mid-70s. we may see a few showers develop. the best chance of that will be pretty well south of washington. down in fredricksburg, culpeper, south of there, you'll have to be more on the lookout for showers than here in the district, especially north and northeast. 68 by 8:00. winds out of the north at 11 and cooler air will move in tonight. a few showers and you can see them here the last couple of hours. montgomery county, howard county dying as it heads towards prince george's county and anne arundel. one lone shower coming past harrisburg tracking toward york where they're currently 50 degrees.

culpeper 48. we've got 51 to our south at the pax river naval air station. here in washington we're running in the mid-50s with arlington 51. 52 springfield. 48 for columbia and crofton and out to the west in fairfax county this morning. reston, one of our cooler spots along with leesburg at 45 degrees. outside on our michael & son weather camera, good visibility this morning. capital dome is looking good. winds not too bad. in fact, none being reported here at reagan national. i noticed the flags were kind of flat around the capital. dew point up to 40 degrees. that's still kind of dry but a little more than what we saw yesterday when the humidity levels were down. here's the storm system that clobbered dallas. the storms have moved toward oklahoma. you can see the spin back here across colorado and western kansas. the upper level winds are going this way. they're going that way so we have the split. that creates great lift at the surface and that's why we had all the storms there. for us looks like any showers that popped later will generally be south of town.

here's a look at the forecast. today about 75. an isolated shower or even rumble of thunder south of d.c. tonight we're up dipping into the 40s in most spots. 30s and 40s tomorrow night with 60 on friday. so we're going to have some cooler air moving in to finish out the week. easter weekend holiday weekend saturday i think it will only be around 60, maybe the lower 60s. easter sunday looks pretty nice. mostly sunny, mid- to upper 60s. sunday night could be a shower passing, still cool on monday and even cooler tuesday. next week we may have some cooler air. look at that. i think tuesday only in the low to mid-50s. 4:47. monika santami is here with time saver traffic. good morning, everybody. things are looking pretty good outside right now. i'm going to show you first of all what it looks like on the east side of town where there is one accident. it's eastbound route 50 and route 202. outbound route 50, westbound or inbound should be okay past the accident scene and crews are on the scene there.

no problems on the bw parkway as you head through sheverly and head into northeast d.c. we'll take a live look at the beltway in college park where traffic is still moving very well. this is the outer loop of the beltway heading past route 1 to 95. all lanes are open. 270 on the maps, southbound side looks great. in gaithersburg, rogville, through bah these -- rockville, through bethesda where the lanes divide. we'll take a look up north in frederick is looking fine as you head towards clarksburg and urban nacht we'll take a look into virginia at 4:45. fairfax county right on top when it comes to the healthiest counties in virginia according to a new report by the robert wood johnson foundation. the study finds northern virginia tends to be healthier than the southern part of the state. in addition fairfax and loudoun ranked near the top. the rate of premature death was

almost double the average in -- [indiscernible] eating certain vegetables could improve survival rates for breast cancer patients. a study presented to the american association for cancer research followed thousands of women in china. it found better survival rates among women who ate crew sif rouse vegetables. those include cabbage, cauliflower and brussel sprouts. they have bioactive compounds good for fighting cancer. research out of norway puts routine breast cancer screenings under scrutiny again. 15% to 20% of cancer caused by mammograms wouldn't cause any -- tumors caused caught by

ma'am grabs wouldn't cause any problems. six to ten women will be overdice nosed and treated for the disease. researchers have found a link between weight and prostrate cancer. a study in chicago found more overweight the patient, the higher the risk of suffering a recurrence after treatment. the heaviest men were nearly eight times more likely to develop cancers again with a high risk of recurrence. there's evidence that caffeine and exercise may protect against skin cancer. researchers gave mice a dose of caffeine and had them exercise on a running wheel. those mice experienced 62% fewer tumors from exposure to sunlight. doctors are hoping the findings could eventually be applied to humans. finding a job in a tough economy is challenging enough but for adults with autism, it can seem insurmountable. >> alexis christoforous looks at one organization with the goal of matching autistic
