"the washington post" says prosecutors failed to notify defendants or their lawyers even when they knew the cases were flawed. problems arose in the 1990's when some criminal cases came under review and when the f.b.i. crime lab was called into

handed the case over to the justice department. >> we recommended criminal charges. >> reporter: the inspector general says he's now handed the entire gsa case over to the justice department. he says he's uncovered bribery and possible kick backs. at 8:30 this morning a congressional subcommittee will hold a hearing on wasteful spending at the gsa. many of the witnesses attending this hearing were also at yesterday's hearing on gsa spending practices. the secret service says it has stripped the top security clearances from 11 of its agents accused of misconduct. they allegedly hired prostitutes while in colombia preparing for the president's visit this weekend. at least ten members of the military may also be involved in this. the chairman of the joint chiefs of staff says the incident is embarrassing. congressman daryl issa says -- daniel issa says he is considering holding hearings about the allegations. the democratic bill called

for american millionaires to pay at least 30% of their income in taxes. president obama says it's not fair for middle class americans to pay a higher tax rate compared to some of the nation's top earners of the senate majority leader harry reid claims some 7,000 millionaires didn't pay a dime in taxes last year. dat virginia general assembly will reconvene to vote on an amended state budget. senate democrats are threatening to block the budget if millions to the metrorail budget isn't added. house and senate budget negotiators removed it during a special session. if law makers don't pass a budget by july 1, virginia will likely face a partial government shutdown. they want d.c. to control its own budget, not the federal government. so members of d.c. voting rights coalition will visit the offices of congressman and congress women today asking them to support budget autonomy for the district. california republican issa is the chairman of the committee

that sorry sees the district -- that oversees the district. city leaders rejected a bill that would have limbed their ability to -- limited their ability to fund local abortions. a new poll shows most of the country supports the idea of budget autonomy for the district. they believe d.c. taxpayers and elected officials should be making budget decisions for the city. 23% support the status quo or congress needs to approve the district's budget. the virginia tech university community spent money honoring the memories of 32 people who were killed on the blacksburg campus five years ago. >> 27 students and five teachers were killed in the shooting. peggy fox was in blacksburg for yesterday's ceremonies. >> reporter: instead of cursing the darkness, they shined a light. that's what governor bob

on the day. >> time's up. today is the day that the taxes are due if you owe money to the tax man but you still have some options if you have some time. look into electronic filing. the free filing system at irs.gov. this could work for you if you have an income of $57,000 or less. it helps you pick a tax software provider and you electronically file the federal return for free. also this year there's a new fresh star program with the i.r.s. it gives you a six-month break for unemployed taxpayers to pay the taxes but you're still going to want to file today even if you can't pay the bill. >> the senate is expected to take up a bipartisan bill this week which could save the struggling u.s. postal service. the bill would offer buyouts to senior employees, cut worker compensation benefits and phase out saturday mail delivery over the next to years. the house will start work on a different postal bill next month. if congress does nothing by may 15, the agency will start closing or consolidating over

we'll see the barometer also start to rise as high pressure builds in. your weather headlines just not as warm today. in fact great viewing for the shuttle. discovery is coming to town, the flight in town about 10:00 this morning. we're going to carry it live for you right here on wusa so stay with us. temperatures will struggle to get toward 60 with a chance of showers tomorrow, but it looks like a much better chance of rain as we head into the weekend. late saturday into sunday. we're still watching a bunch of rain down along the gulf coast. this is primarily going to stay south of us. as we go into tomorrow afternoon, even late morning, we'll get some showers getting close to d.c. south of town much better chance of seeing a few showers on wednesday than up north of town. today, though, the high clouds, quite of few of them i believe through the afternoon and evening hours. then tomorrow we'll watch some of these showers skirt along our southern suburbs. this is 1:00 on wednesday. notice the green down to the south passing across the region, especially during the

is also looking good and light volumes to report right now across the river. back over to the maps this time all the way down to southern maryland, route 210 out of accokeek into oxon hill no problems. traving well around the andrews air force base and inside the beltway as well. taking a look live new york avenue at bladensburg road in northeast d.c., nobody's there. coming up in my next report, we'll take a look at 66 at 4:55. >> thank you, monika. monika, you're supposed to read this i think. the d.c. department of transportation begins its annual pothole pa lose today campaign. crews will be working to repair any potholes which you report to them within 48 hours instead of the typical 72-hour response time. the transportation security administration showed off some new technology which is being tested at dulles airport. the goal is to identify passenger documents which have been altered or are fraud lent. this includes boarding passes.

the new tool passes a passenger's boarding pass and photo i.d. and automatically verifies the name on both documents. dulles airport is one of three airports across the country taking part in the pilot program. dry, sunny days may be nice for picnics but for farmers in eastern maryland, it is causing problems already. the entire eastern shore except for cecil county is now in a drought. rainfall totals are several inches below normal for the year so far. now farmers are putting off planting their spring crops. instead they're drilling for water. >> we're right on the border line now. may need another well to boost the volume out of the system. >> never been this dry this early. >> maryland's department -- excuse me, maryland's department of environment is encouraging residents on the eastern shore to conserve water now and the water conditions are close to normal, though, in the rest of the state. the number of children accidentally dying has dropped 30% during the last decade. a government report finds fewer

kids and teens are dying in car accidents. experts credit better car seats and new rules which limit how much teens drive, but unfortunately death rates for infant suffocation and teenager drug overdose are on the rise. new mothers with depression may be keeping their babies up at night. researchers at pennsylvania state university found depressed moms tend to worry more and are more likely to check on a sleeping child and pick them up. doctors believe depressed mothers may also want to spend time with their children at night for emotional comfort. the amount of salt in fast food may depend in which country it's sold. an international team of researchers looked at more than 2,000 products sold at six popular fast food chains. they found sodium levels very wide -- varied widely between countries. fast food in the united states and canada has much more sodium than the same foods sold in france and the united kingdom. >> sad but i love salt. just do. time for the question of the morning this morning.
