a soaker or just some showers. we have temps in the low 50s. clouds starting to break at reagan national. mostly cloudy. in a few hours as we get to the mid and late part of the morning, we should become mostly sunny and stay that way for the rest of the day as highs approach 70 with fairly light winds. overnight and yesterday afternoon, you can see the showers we had that pushed east of us. they are over the delmarva and quickly pulling away toward the coast. we're left with a little bit of fog in spots. manassas quarter mile visibility. better in martinsburg. they were a half mile the last time we checked. this is about the worst of it in man fan sas, three quart -- manassas, about three-quarters. temps from the mid-40s in winchester to low 50s here in town. annapolis. 49 in la plata. but a nice afternoon as we head toward 70. let's head toward monika right now at 5:00 a.m. with time saver traffic. we're all smiles out on the roadways this morning. that's because things are very light. no construction to worry about. even though you have some wet road conditions, i think you're

going to be just fine heading north on 95 out of dale city into woodbridge, up to springfield and 395. let's go outside live on the northbound side of i-95. here's what it looks like in springfield. you know, i don't think there's ever a time when i don't see cars on this stretch of roadway but at least there are no delays yet heading to 395. the 14th street bridge, northbound side this is also very light across the potomac river. this time we'll head all the way to the west side of the beltway. no problems crossing the american legion bridge past the gw parkway. toll road 66 everything is final. we'll go out live again. if you're planning to head here on the inbound side of i-66, no issues to report leaving the fairfax county parkway to the beltway, coming up in my next report, we'll go north at 5:09. >> thanks, monika. it won't be quite as dramatic as tuesday's biggie back flight but today the space shuttle discovery is making its final trip. the shuttle is being towed to the air and space museum's udvar-hazy center. >> grand ceremonies are planned to welcome discovery to its new

home. 9news now reporter delia goncalves is live at the center with a preview. good morning, delia. again, we're envying your assignment this morning. >> reporter: good morning. we just got the exciting news that the discovery shuttle has been safely demated, lifted off that 747 carrier that first brought it into the washington area. that literally just happened a few hours ago. the press relations person just showed us a picture. she was very excited. so certainly another exciting day here. mike, it may not be as dramatic but certainly very memorable. crews begin the very slow and careful process of a dance they call it eventually bringing out enterprise, the prototype shuttle that has been housed inside this hangar. they will tow that out at 7:00 a.m. and then eventually it will be replaced with the tried and true discovery shuttle. the piggyback flight that we all saw on tuesday was in fact the easy part. it took two days to remove the shuttle from the 747 carrier

and now begins that slow and deliberate dance as the shuttle pulls into its retirement home after 39 flights and 27 years discovery's new mission will be to inspire future explorers. >> on every kind of mission that the shuttle was designed to fly so it does embody the space shuttle era of human space flight. we see discovery as being not just a remembrance of the past era but also an inspiration for the future. it's the end of one era but it's the beginning of another era. >> reporter: beginning of another era here at the udvar- hazy center, and millions of people sure will enjoy the discovery for the next several years to come. now at 10:30, we're told the discovery shuttle will be towed from dulles airport where it is currently to this area where

the hangar is. we're told for the ceremony that begins at 11:00 this morning, enterprise and discovery will be nose to nose and eventually discovery will take its final place inside the hangar at 5:30. but very exciting day here today. we're just beginning to get started here and folks are just beginning to pour in, but it will be a long and very exciting day here at the udvar- hazy center. we'll have an exclusive interview coming up at 5:30 with a pilot from that 747 carrier who really gave us quite the sight and a memorable one on tuesday. back to you, mike, andrea? >> just a magic day it was. it will be interesting to hear what his take was. thanks, delia. a bitter feud is tearing apart a church in landover, maryland. a bible study group found the doors locked last night when they showed up at the jericho city of praise church. the board of trustees fired the church's pastor joe peoples. he took over for miz mother

betty -- his mother betty who founded the church. they fired him in part in an effort to keep the 501p status for the which -- 001 -- 5013 status. parents are very concerned in northeast washington. alleged abuse lapped last week at the -- happened last week at the zion baptist church. the day care at the church takes care of dozens of children. police aren't releasing any information about the suspect or the alleged victims. d.c. mayor vincent gray says he is hoping a computer theft is not the work of trying to -- of someone trying to interfere with the city investigation. over the weekend someone broke into the d.c. auditor's office which is on 4th p street northwest. two dell laptops were stolen. the auditor examines city government, the accounts and the operations. 5:05. time for the latest your money report of the morning. >> it took a dip on wall street.

just got the -- jessica has the details. >> we're hoping for a better day. fingers crossed. we're seeing stocks higher overseas. after the bell american express and e-bay reported better than expected quarterly profits after stocks sold off on disappointing earnings on the likes of intel and i.b.m. we still have worries about spain's the to pay off its debts. wall street is now on track for its first losing month since september. the dow stands at 13,032, dropped about 83 points in trading yesterday. the nasdaq was off by 11 and the s&p 500 was down by about 5.5. but people are shopping more. and whipping ought the amex to pay. american express's first quarter profit was 7% that topped estimates as consumers spent more and fewer defaulted on their accounts. past writeoffs are at historic lows for amex. grab that calendar. facebook is reportedly targeting may 17 as the potential date for its initial

"the los angeles times" published photos which appear to show american soldiers posing with the bodies of insurgents. an 82nd airborne division soldier says the pictures were taken in 2010. president obama has called for everyone involved to be held accountable. there's a new judge now in the trayvon martin case. the previous judge recused herself because her husband was hired to provide legal analysis in the case for cnn. george zimmerman is accused of second-degree murder in the february shooting of the unarmed teenager. he clails it was self-defense. rocker ted nugent will meet with secret service agents today following a tirade he made against president obama at an nra convention.

their way out. >> one supervisor has been notified he'll be fired. another is retiring and one agent is resigning. they were among the 11 people put on leave after being sent home from colombia last week. the group is accused of bringing back prostitutes to their hotel. a former secret service director says agents are constantly warned that prostitution can lead to espionage and blackmail. >> there's no doubt everybody going on that trip representing our government in that presidential contingent is aware of take and aware you can't do that. >> the agents were sent home after one of them argued with a prostitute over payment and local police were called. eight agents are still on administrative leave and have had their security clearances suspended pending results of the investigation. this morning the national air and space museum is rolling out the welcome mat for space shulings discovery. discovery will -- shuttle discovery. discovery will be towed from dulles airport to the museum's

udvar-hazy center in campaign tilly, virginia -- in chantilly, virginia. 9news now reporter delia goncalves is live at udvar- hazy. she has a preview. this is an exciting day, delia. >> reporter: it certainly is. we thought tuesday was pretty exciting. this should be pretty good as well. you're going to see both the enterprise and discovery so folks, it's going to be quite a treat for those who can make it out here today or those who can watch a little later tonight. we just got word that discovery was successfully and safely demated from that 747 carrier that brought it into washington on tuesday. that just happened a few hours ago. it was a two-day process. so a very long and careful process to take that shuttle off of that plane safely. now crews are preparing to tow the enterprise out of its hangar to make way for discovery. after 39 space trips in 27 years, the discovery took its final victory lap around the washington metro region tuesday

and of course we were all surprised. i was when it appeared the pilot was on a joy ride making three loops around the area. finally landing an hour and a half later. the crew spoke only to 9news now after that historic flight. >> i think there was one point in the flight where i was looking down at the lincoln memorial, at the washington monument and soon to come up on the white house and i thought oh, my gosh, i need to get my camera out but i couldn't because i was so busy flying but that was truly an awesome sight to see. >> i was trying to fly the path correct and be at the right altitudes and air speeds. i had a little bit of time to enjoy the scenery but not a lot. >> i had a chance to go down and look and see the crowd on different locations on top of skyscrapers and the mall. it was pretty special. >> as it taxied in it choked me up unexpectedly. i didn't expect to feel that emotional but it really got to me. it kind of hit home that this

is it. >> reporter: it was very cool. the rundown of events, take a look. the museum lot opens at 8:00 a.m. transfer ceremony begins at 11:00. now, we're told between noon and 4:00, both shujts will be nose to -- shuttles will be nose to nose for folks to see and take plenty of pictures. later this evening crews will begin to move discovery into the hangar. the enterprise will eventually head to a museum in new york on monday. mike, andrea, back to you. >> i hope you have your camera, delia. a lot of fun today. thanks live at udvar-hazy center. students in d.c.'s lowest performing schools could soon have longer class days or even an extended school year. those changes are part of a five-year plan unveiled by school chancellor could kya enderson. henderson wants to increase the

score to 70%. >> i think we can do a lot more if we had an extended school year or school day. in order to move kids, we need more time with them. >> it will be easier to make the changes in a few of the lower performing schools first. the plan also calls for closing some school buildings that are underutilized. no specifics were released by which buildings or when they could close. a democrat from northern virginia switches sides and helps pass the budget. he said his constituents contacted him about the concerns. democrats had rejected the budget plan tuesday trying to hold out to get more funding for metro's silver line to dulles airport. but colgan switched for yesterday's vote means the $85 billion two-year budget plan passed $21-19 -- passed 21-19.

5:35. time for another your money report now. >> jessica doyle is back with new concerns after the bp oil spill. >> the two-year anniversary is tomorrow of the massive spill in the gulf of mexico. now scientists say they're finding sick fish living along the off shore reef and in the deep waters. the sick fish are turning up in places where the oil spill hit the hardest. the experts are saying the fish illnesses don't pose an increased health threat to humans but could be devastating to prize species and the people who make their living catching them. scientists are unsure what's causing a small percentage of the fish they're catching to have large open sores and strange black streaks. the biggest question is whether contaminants from the bp spill are causing these problems. a sigh of relief in maryland. property tax bills are not going up, at least not now. comptroller peter frnachoe is warning about rising get

. hello. welcome back to 9news now. 5:46. we're almost to the weekend and almost to more soaking rains that we could use. >> potentially on sunday. potentially. it might slide a little east of us but we're definitely going to get more showers and storms on saturday and some on sunday, possibly into monday. the jury is still a little out on that but we'll tat rain. we had some -- we'll take the rain. we had some rain yesterday. not enough to make a difference but it was twice to have it. we did have a third of an inch in spots. this morning with your bus stop forecast, we are looking at clouds and a touch of fog. still a sprinkle or to down in southern maryland right now. that's not going to last that much longer. temps range from the mid-40s in the shenandoah valley to mid- 50s south and east of town.

not warm and it's damp too you feel the coolness. i suggest a jacket this morning and i suggest something that you can maybe leave in the office or car or somewhere. you won't need it this afternoon. it's going to turn out to be beautiful. by lunch time should become mostly sunny, low 60s. this afternoon mostly sunny, winds light, east to southeast. high temperatures around 70 give or take a couple of degrees. even this evening pretty nice at 8:00. mid-60s. our first pitch at nationals park tonight 7:05. so in the 60s for the ballgame. weather should be fine for that for the first place nationals hosting the astros. you can see the few sprinkles just showing up now. main line of showers off the atlantic coast but in southern maryland, we're sees from lusby through solomons, maybe mechanicsville, northern areas of st. mary's county, there may abstray sprinkle. other than that done with the rain. still fog. warrenton visibility one mile. light fog in other areas, not really enough to cause

problems. temperatures are down to 48 in columbia and crofton. we've got 46 now in leesburg with that fog. and 46 also in fairfax. outside on our michael & son weather camera, you can see just a hint of some very light fog on the capital dome there. 52 degrees with a dew point of 47. so the humidity is high, calm winds and skies being reported as mostly cloudy at reagan national. the next weather system really taking shape for us in the northern plains. this is going to bring a cold front here on saturday with showers and storms. as low pressure forms on that cold front on sunday, that could give us a soaking rain if it doesn't go too far east. either way behind the front on sunday, we're going to cool down and have some showers. here's the timetable. let's get you on the future cast here. just want to show you the timetable. i loaded the wrong thing. it's going to be fine today and tomorrow. saturday by noon, though, that's when we got a chance to already see some of those showers and storms returning. highs today 70 degrees in town. some low 70s westward. we'll see the sun earlier,

perhaps holding in the upper 60s right along the bay. here's our next three days. 70s this afternoon. it's really going to be nice. tonight 40s and 50s. 75 tomorrow. so a good finish to the week. saturday, though, some showers and storms. i still think on the mild side. low possibly middle 70s. then sunday damp, cool, showers. maybe rain if we're lucky, 60. monday 58, lingering shower. still cool tuesday into wednesday. it is 5:49. monika is coming in now. a few incidents building as the volume increases. i've been on the phone with montgomery county police. they've been dealing with an accident that i've been telling you about on the beltway north of town. just near georgia avenue on the outer loop. the two right lanes remain blocked. it's a property damage accident. that means it's minor in nature but they're waiting on a tow truck. look at all the slow traffic on the outer loop. about 33 miles an hour. let me just show what you it looks like live right now at university boulevard. it's very, very slow and heavy

trying to get past the activity. you need to scoot over to the left to get around it on the outer loop westbound 495 just before georgia avenue. let's go back over to the maps and this time we'll head out west where there's an accident in bristow. it's blocking northbound route 28 near route 234. just slow traffic on 66 here in centreville. no big deals to report there. an accident in camp springs, northbound route 5 just inside the beltway. crews are on the scene there and we'll take a live look on the northbound side of i-95. overall delays dale city to the occoquan, newington to springfield. more on area roadways at 6:00. mike, back to you. >> thanks, monika. here's what's making news at 5:50. pakistan's army chief is making a surprise call for demilitarization after touring the avalanche site where 130 soldiers died earlier this month. he suggested removing troops from the world's highest battlefield. this site is in the kashmir region which is claimed by both

remembrance. gentlemen, welcome. thank you both for being here. michael, let's start with you and talk about where will the march for remembrance start, where should people come and at what time? >> the march of remembrance starts on sunday at 2:00 p.m. there's a time of gathering and prayer a block on the national mall a block away from the hall caws memorial -- holocaust and memorial at 14th and jefferson. we'll proceed from there at 2:45 to the national -- to the u.s. capitol grounds to taft park. and that's the main event. there's going to be several speakers there. holocaust survivors, descend distants of nazi -- descendants of nazis who have come to acknowledge what happened many years ago. and others, including the director -- the 22-year director of the holocaust memorial in miami, florida. >> you've been the national coordinator. this is the fourth march of remembrance in the u.s. around the country.

around the world it's known for the march for life. why is it important? there are a lot of people who said the war ended 70 years ago, that maybe in moving forward we shouldn't keep bringing this up, keep remembering it. >> yes. a lot of people would like to be indifferent about it but these people that -- can really began with the children of nazis. these people grew up in families where their fathers didn't talk about what happened. and their city was indifferent about what happened. as these people began researching their backgrounds of their parents, they found some of them were commanders at the worst massacres of the war and we're ashamed. of course they feel bad about it but they wanted to do something to make sure that it would never happen again. so they just feel like it's not over for them until every person that their father harmed is over it. >> it's amazing because there is still an impact 70 years later on them and the rest of us. talk about how the rest of the country, the rest of the world
