the investigation. >> yes. >> reporter: the auditor looks into the efficiency and the internal controls in d.c. government. it's running about two dozen investigations right now, and including how harry thomas was able tosifen to siphon off grants. kwame brown said in a statement that he is concerned about the burglary and considers it a serious matter, but declined to further comment. the police report says that the thief pried open several internal doors. and to steal the laptops. >> richard nixon's press secretary called water gate a third rate burglary. at this point, we don't know whether or not this is another third rate burglary or something else. d.c. auditor branch is also declining to talk to us. so we don't even know whether these laptops contained

sensitive information. or whether any other information, any data on the laptops were backed up to the city's network. in d.c., bruce leshan, 9news now. tomorrow, george zimmerman, the man accused of murdering trayvon martin will be heading back to court. now, zimmerman and his legal team will argue that the neighborhood watch captain ought to be let out on bail until his trial starts. he's expected to plead not guilty by arguing that he fired in self-defense under florida's stand on your ground law. today, florida's governors rick scott, announced he's -- governor, rick scott, announced he'll be looking into the controversial law. >> we look forward to hearing from the citizens of our states about their concerns and recommendations for keeping our state safe. >> that task force will consider whether or not the law ought to be changed or abolished and to make their recommendation to the governor. well now an update on the accusations over the sexual assault at a church daycare in northeast d.c. today, police

arrested the 21-year-old randolph king in high -- hyattsville, accused of sexually abusing a child last week. that's out on kennel worth avenue. police charged him with attempted first-degree sex assault. the other maryland lawmaker is saying the doomsday budget wouldn't be all that bad. this time it is montgomery county executive. and he says that the other budget proposal would shift the $40 million per year cost and for the state to the county. it is all about teacher pension. and that he says could make the doomsday budget a better option. >> and believe it or not when you look at the doomsday budget verses the budget that they were concentrated, and we are at a standstill. now, some could argue it very clearly that it will be better than the original bum. that's just how bad that they were all doing in the regular session. >> and that doomsday budget would cut about $500 million

from the state spending as of july 1. that is unless the lawmakers could reconvene in a special session and figure out a different way to go about it. students at the university of maryland are adding their voices to the growing chorus calling for the special session. under the doomsday budget, the university system would take a $50 million hit. and that could trigger a big tuition hike. at a rally today, student leaders were doing the math. >> well, how many of you are in state? >> well, that's a lot of youth. >> and you'll be paying about $800 more next year. can you afford that? >> no. >> i didn't think so. how many of you are out of state? well, you will be paying about $2,600 more next year and can you afford that? no, i didn't think so. >> regardless as of now, noplans for a special legislative session. governor martin o'malley has to call it, but he wants state lawmakers to reach a deal before he does so. well, the chesapeake bay is

getting bluer, but we're not talking about the waters. instead, it's the blue crab and lots of them. in fact, the most in almost 20 years. >> i'm scott broom on the chesapeake bay, where today, scientists, politicians, and water men, they all teamed up to reveal a dramatic turnaround for the chesapeake blue crab. >> and i am now glad to report that the population of the blue crab is now at a 19-year high. >> reporter: scientists who take them up from the bottom in winter will help figure they are at least three quarters of a billion in bay waters. a stunning rebound, and after virginia stopped allowing the controversial practice of winter dredging for crabs and strict restrictions were imposed elsewhere on taking females ready to lay eggs. >> it's important that scientists work on this and it is important to move it up. >> that's one of the clearest indications for you, that the help for the bay is not a hopeless cause and that it will be the rebound up late of this

they are now inspecting all of their defibrillator after a man had a heart attack and died. and what might have saved him, the defibrillator was not working. it happened just before the pentagon station. the 51-year-old man from alexandria was taken to virginia medical center where he was pronounced dead. and they said that the defibrillator at that station was not working. the battery didn't have enough

charge. metro says they will complete that inspection within the next 24 hours. virginia drivers who are using the ez mass may need to pay a fee to keep it. they are proposing a $1 per month fee for them to use that box. drivers will need to pay it. they said that the fee will be needed to support expanding the easy pass. they will start operating later this year, which includes the new express lanes being built on out there. if approved, they would go into effect on july 1. sunny skies and warmer temperatures will be back to wrap up the week, but the weekend is not quite so clear. our faith in their hands will have them telling you what's coming up in just a moment. but first, discovery is finally home as the legendary shuttle moves into the air and space museum.

nasa completed the shuttle shuffle today at the smithsonian's air and space museum at the center here. and removing the enterprise and they will bring in the legendary discovery. and that will likely never happen again. kristin fisher has the details of the historic day from the retirement home. >> reporter: 28 years ago, i watched the space shuttle discovery launch my mom and dad -- space shuttle discovery launch with my mom and dad. and now this star is suppose to

represent discovery. little did they know how fitting that would be. because today senator john glenn called discovery the start of the shuttle fleet. and a hero's welcome for the space shuttle discovery. and after 39 missions, 6,000 orbits, and one glorious flight around the nation's capital, america's most famous spaceship rolled up to the most famous museum. >> it is my pleasure to be here today to welcome discovery to her new home. >> reporter: for the administrators, it's a moment of high emotions. and discovery was his bird too. he flew on it twice. >> i hope that, you know, everybody, they could feel the same pride that people around d.c. did this week when, you know, when discovery flew up ahead. and that's, you know, what we're all about. we're about the exploration. >> reporter: two shuttles nose to nose, a spectacular site. even for the 28 discovery astronauts in attendance, and including the senator john glenn. >> it's the most complex vehicle we have ever seen.

in the mail bag tonight, serious reactions on the facebook page, regarding the american soldiers defiling the parts of the dead afghan troops. most all of them said that they should have never published thepictures absolutely not. as horrible as the situation was, publishing the photo is like adding fuel to the fire. and they may have contributed to the increased electricity by publishing the photos. and this to thomas, comparing the times to wikileaks, putting countless american lives in danger. they already knew about the

incident and they were taking steps to protect and punish the soldiers involved. they even went there and asked them not to print the pictures. what a great way for them to try to sell a few papers. the most sympathetic response came from deborah bean. this is the first amendment to the institution in action and the corner stone for the rest of them. even though that sometimes it is seriously not the best. not too sympathetic. but i can only note all of that, which is what they said in their paper. at the end of the day, our job is to publish the information that our leaders need. and we have a particular duty to report vigorously and impartially on all aspects of the american mission in afghanistan. okay. and then there was this on all those who complained yesterday about the money they spent on the space shuttle program. the technology that we have gained from the space program is beyond measure. you'll be able to see it when
