>> reporter: three agents have already been forced out. supervisor david chaney retired. greg stokes was removed with cause but can appeal. a third agent resigned and eight more are still under investigation. the agents are accused of hiring prostitutes and bringing them back to their hotels in colombia last week. they were in colombia setting up security for president obama's trip to the summit of the americas. the secret service is updating congressmen about the investigations underway here in washington and in colombia. lawmakers are expressing outrage over what happened. >> this is unacceptable behavior. >> those people who are responsible have brought disgrace and it's disgusting. >> reporter: former house speaker nancy pelosi says agents need to be held accountable. >> i don't see how those who are involved in this should be able to continue in their work. >> reporter: white house spokesman jay carney says the president still has confidence in the director of the secret service and the agency. >> he has high regard for and

great appreciation for the extraordinary work that the secret service does to protect him. >> reporter: the secret service says the actions of its agents never compromised the president's security. in washington, susan mcginnis, 9news now. >> the investigators sent to colombia are from the secret service and the military. ten members of the military are also being investigated for their involvement. the search for a missing maryland woman over 20 years ago after she vanished. that search is now over. police say her husband killed her and buried her body in the backyard. they arrested robert jarrett yesterday, police found the body of his wife, christine jarrett in this shed of their home in elk ridge. it was robert jarrett's current wife who led the police to that shed. investigators say robert and christine had heated argument 20 years ago and then christine was never heard from again. but howard county police did not give up on the case. >> this was someone who was really cared about in the

community. she had a lot of friends and family members. and she was someone that we never forgot. >> robert area et is now in -- jarrett is now in jail and being held without bond and facing first and second degree murder charges. well, a much happier discovery of sorts in loudoun county. police have found a young girl who vanished six years ago. she was reported missing by her father in los angeles back in 2006. and they found the girl and her mother this week living in sterling. the mom, behind bars. the girl is now 12 years old and she will be reunited with her father. some people in maryland are feeling hit from all sides with the proprosed hikes in gas taxes, income taxes and property taxes. one lawmaker from the district is glad they feel that way. check out what d.c. council member jack evans said during a meeting this week -- quote -- flush the "washington examiner" reports evans pointed to

maryland's corporate tax rate of 8.25%. d.c.'s tax rate is nearly 10%. well, maryland's governor's office fired back. the governor spokeswoman tells the examiner wrote -- one maryland republican agrees with that evans. house minority leader said -- and now a follow-up to a story we told you about at this time yesterday morning. it's about wasteful spending in the free state. over $100 million, that's how much the transit center in silver spring is costing. problems with the concrete work has stopped construction. thursday, county decided to bring in another engineering company in hopes of figuring out what to do next. the solution maybe to tear down

the whole thing and start all over again. we'll we'll have a live report on this coming up at the top of the hour. here's a check of the other stories making news now. an american blackhawk helicopter reportedly crashed in afghanistan and four americans were on board. we don't know their can't at this point. the associated press is reporting the chopper went down in southwestern afghanistan. the military has not said if it was brought down by enemy fire, bad weather or mechanical issues. today is the 13th anniversary of the horrific shootings at the columbine high school in colorado. it changed the way how police handle the bomb threats made against a school this week. the cdc says last year was the worst or one of the worst for measles' cases in 15 years. more than 200 cases. that's a jump from 60 or so which is the average. most of those cases came from

overcease they say where vaccination rates are much lower than in the united states. this week the d.c. public schools chancellor unveiled the ambitious five year plan for the district. >> and also shared with us her journey from the projects to where she is today taking on a challenge. >> delia goncalves sat down with the chancellor and has her story. >> i do this work because i am one of the kids that we serve in the d.c. public schools. >> reporter: it's not an easy job. task with turning a troubled d.c. system around while healing wounds in the community brought on by massive school closures and teacher firings under her predecessor michelle ree. but henderson is taking a quieter approach and it could come from the humble beginnings. >> i grew up in mount vernon, new york. my family lived in the projects for 47 years. and i walked to a phenomenal neighborhood elementary school. my experience in public schools

next month before making any decisions to close schools. well. it is going to be a busy day at the center. >> it's the first day you'll be able to see the shut discovery in its new home. >> plenty of celebrating yesterday as the discovery rolled in literally. it went nose to nose with the enterprise. that as we said is the prototype shuttle which is going to new york on monday. thousands of people packed the museum grounds for the event yesterday and it was a pretty emotional day for some. including nasa administrator charles bolden. he was commander of discovery on a mission in 1994. >> i hope that everybody could feel the same pride that people around d.c. did this week when you know, when discovery flew over here. that's what we're all about. we're about exploration. >> after the big ceremony discovery was rolled into its new home inside the mcdonald's safe hangar. you can see it in a special slip right up by the tail fin trying to get through the big

better than expected profits in revenue for last quarter and that was thanks in part to the strong sales of the windows software. they could use it. check this out -- ready for another merger in the airline business? cbs news reports u.s. airways is actively seeking a deal with american and this could be a hostile takeover. that airline is in bankruptcy protection right now. u.s. airways is courting three of american's labor unions. cbs also reports that u.s. airway is lobbying lawmakers on capitol hill for approval. you have to spend some money to earn some money. that's why virginia is putting up signs to tout the commonwealth's wine industry. signs like this started going up yesterday in the charlottesville area designed

good morning and welcome back to 9news now. it's 4:46. it's friday. it's always a good day when it's friday. but we've got a good forecast and we're happy even about rain in your weekend forecast.

>> we still have drought conditions especially on the eastern shore and the heaviest rains will be along and east of i-95 sunday but today no real problems. here's a look at the bus stop forecast on this friday morning. we're very happy that it is friday. it is usually the case. and we've got a gorgeous day today. a little fog in spots this morning. it's cool. 40s and 50s. sunrise at about 6:25. then today, lots of sunshine. we'll be in the upper 60s by lunchtime. it's going to be a gorgeous midday around here. 4:00 74. highs mid- to upper 70s. and then partly cloudy this evening with 69 at 8:00 p.m. and as far as the visibilities this morning, here are the fog issues in manassas and warrenton, culpeper about three quarters. also leonard town from prince frederick also, he's about a quarter mile. and frederick just got visibilities half the three quarters. these are the patchy areas of fog with upper 40s down in southern maryland. low 40s at culpeper right now. they are the cold spot with 46

in winchester. lovettsville is also 41. we've got 47 in great falls and 49 in alexandria. columbia. 46. 47 at university of maryland and next maryland day is 28th. and outside on the michael and son weather camera, just a touch of haze there. not really foggy but clear. we have the humidity 90%. we're fine now and watching this front towards chicago and st. louis. that guy is going to be coming east and arriving here tomorrow afternoon. ahead of it some showers and storms will move in tomorrow. today it's fine mid- to upper 70s. we're okay mitt romney morning and by midday -- tomorrow morning and by midday, some showers to the west to northern shenandoah valley and maybe hagerstown. this stuff approaches in the late afternoon and evening hours and low pressure is going to come up the front and form off the carolina coast and this is what we're looking at for sunday. here we are sunday 11:45 into the afternoon and evening, this is a little further east and it

won't be as bad here but i think areas especially i-95 east more heavier rains than west of town. 75 today. 78 tomorrow. showers and storms more likely in the afternoon and evening. sunday could be wet. probably rain and not thunder. staying in the 50s on sunday. monday too cool. with some early showers 52 and staying cool the first half of next woke. monika? well, i'm happy to say that most of the overnight construction has been cleared up. so if you're headed out early this friday morning, i think you should be just fine. we're going to first start off with the frederick area on the eastbound side of i-70 just near route 50 but before route 15. there's been a car on fire and crews are on the scene there with only the left lane getting through. you can see that here, only the left lane is getting by. once you're on 270 you're fine heading south from frederick down to the point where the lanes divide. we'll take a live look at shady grove road and how nice and light it is if you have to head out to work early you will be

just fine. all lanes are open going down to the beltway. back over to the west side of town. no problems to report on 66 coming in from manassas to centreville. and all the way into fairfax. we'll go live inside the beltway in falls church. nice and quiet to the roosevelt bridge. same story on 395 to the 14th street bridge. back to you mike. thank you monika. time now 4:50. a man died at a met restation this week when he had a heart attack and people tried to use one of those emergency defibrillators with the paddles but it failed. the reason why? the battery wasn't charged. ken molestina explains that metro is now checking the other aeds. >> reporter: automated external defibrillators are some of the most advanced machines used during a cardiac emergency. according to the cardiac association, it improves a person's survival rate by 49%. >> it is certainly unfortunately it was not there

in working condition. >> reporter: metro spokesman says it was on monday that 51- year-old eugene mccrea suffered an apparent heart attack at the metro station. the battery was drained. the 51-year-old was rushed to virginia hospital center where she was pronounced -- he was pronounced dead. >> the obvious question is would this man's life have been saved? >> unfortunately that's a question i don't know that we're ever going to be able to answer. the aeds though are designed to work when you need them most. >> reporter: the a eddy failure prompted officials to review the 46 defibrillators. in addition the program is already in place to switch out the old machines with new ones. but despite those efforts, some metro riders believe the move is too little. too late. at least in the case of the 51- year-old victim. >> they keep telling us they're going to fix this and fix that but it takes too long. so i'm just hoping -- they're going to stick to their word

new this morning, more help for our troops are coming home increased staffing to deal with mental health care. the veterans administration will add 1900 workers in the coming months. that includes psychologists, psychiatrists, nurses, social workers and counselors. there are already more than 20,000 mental health care workers at the va. in the last five years the
