culpeper to 54 here in town. monika samtani has timesaver traffic. overall generally speaking, things aren't looking too bad around town. early morning on friday. we've just got one accident right now up in columbia. it's route 32 east at i-95. 95 itself looks okay coming down from that point to the beltway in college park. live over into silver spring and the beltway at georgia avenue and as you can see, both loops are still pretty light heading for silver spring and over toward college park as well. let's go back to the maps this time to southern maryland. no issues to report on any of the major corridors heading north to the beltway including route 5 and route 210 out of accokeek and oxon hill. to alexandria on the wilson bridge and all lanes are open. coming up in my next report, we'll go to 95 in virginia at 5:09. thanks monika. see in a little bit. the future of a new center in silver spring is now in the hands of metro and montgomery

county officials. the center was supposed to own last year -- open last year until lots of errors were found. >> mow the mistakes could mean the whole thing will have to be torn down. delia goncalves is live in silver spring with more on the story. >> reporter: good morning, you knows this not good news if you live in the area. and use the metro. you know folks have been dealing with this construction for two years now and they moved up that grand reopening and just when that grand reopening in the summer seemed to be right around the corner, wouldn't you know, another problem. a construction, a concrete problem and that could threaten this whole project. county officials say the structure simply does not meet standards. the three level transit center has thick concrete in some areas, thin concrete in others. county inspectors say it's not a safety concern, don't worry about that. rather it's a concern of

durability. one solution tear it all down and start over from scratch. >> will this last as long as it's supposed to last? is it a 50 year structure or now a 30 year structure? >> that's pretty ridiculous, millions of dollars for just constructing the thing to tear it all down seems like a lot of taxpayer money going away. >> i think that's really a bad possibility but i guess if it can't be fixed it's better than taking a chance on somebody being hurt. >> reporter: officials re assured taxpayers here that repairs will be made by the contractor. who by the way, has his own solution. and he says it's a lot cheaper. we'll hear what his solutions are coming up at 5:30. back to you mike, andrea? >> it's a mess getting around there. now it's going to be even longer. thank you, delia. she will have an update for us.

interesting to hear that. police have arrested a man accused of sexually abusing a young boy at a church day care in northeast washington. officers took randolph king into custody in hyattsville. the alleged abuse happened last week at zion baptist church and parents tell us the church day care looks after dozens of children. the trial of five men charged in one of the district's deadliest shooting sprees will soon go to the jury: five people were killed in march 2010 around south capitol street. nine others were hurt. in closing arguments prosecutors say the missing piece of jewelry, a bracelet with fake diamonds sparked the shooting. the suspects are brothers orlando, carter and san juan carter along with jeffrey theft robert boast and lamar williams. if convicted they could spend the rest of their lives in prison. police in california tracked a girl missing for six years to northern virginia. the loudoun county sheriff's

love plans to file a wrongful death lawsuit against george huguely. he was convicted of second degree murder in the death of his estranged girlfriend. in court thursday an attorney for sharon love and media representatives asked the judge to allow them to review evidence presented in the murder trial. a ruling is expected next month. not a miracle on the hudton- type fineish but passengers aboard a flight to los angeles had to be little scared. emergency returned to jfk airport. the plane hit a flock of birds shortly after takeoff. passengers said they heard a growling noise and the plane shuddered and filled with smoke but no one was injured. pat summitt retired thursday after coaching the tennessee lady vols for 38 years. summitt who turns 60 next month is stufferring from early on set demannish. she won 1,098 games. >> and eight national championships, congratulations to her. in local sports, they can't win them all.

the warmth for us today. and tomorrow as well. but things are going to change by sunday. we're looking at clear skies most of the day today. here we are at 6:00. lots of sunshine. tonight we become partly to mostly cloudy. it will be much milder, 50s to around 60. now tomorrow with lunchtime. here we are at noon. you notice north and west and showers and we're okay in the metro and south and east. a few showers possible on the eastern shore. then this line of showers and possible storms here forms in the afternoon. here we are 3:15, heavy still north and west of d.c.. coming through in the evening hours. this is going to work its way south and east by 11:00. so we'll get a break tomorrow night. but another area of low pressure is going to form here as we head into saturday night and sunday. it's going to come up the coast up 95. here we are sunday midday. look at the yellows here and heavier rains north carolina which expand towards us into saturday afternoon and evening. -- sunday afternoon and evening. sunday won't be as wet but one inch, two inches or more of

security. ten members of the military are also accused of being involved in the same incident and also under investigation. it's been under construction for two years. but now a huge transit center may have to come down even before it opens. inspectors have found problems with the concrete at the center in silver spring. 9news now reporter delia goncalves is live at the site with more on what's wrong and one of the possible solutions. good morning delia. >> reporter: good morning. and no one can really figure out where they want to go from here. that's the big problem. there really is no concrete solution but the problem, we know for sure, has to deal with convert specifically on the second and third tiers that's meant to hold buses and car of course. in some areas we're told the concrete is way too thin. you can even see cracks and exposed beams already. it's not a safety issue but now they wonder how durable the $100 million structure will be.

the county says, well, maybe tear the whole thing down and start over and rebuild at the contractor's expension but the contractor says hey, no need to go to that extreme. all those cracks and thin concrete areas, all they need, well, they need just some sealant. >> where the thickness problems, when some cracking of the concrete occurred over some areas where reinforcing bars were under the surface. which would indicate that there was not -- there was insufficient concrete cover over those rebars. >> i think that there's sufficient evidence now that you can provide mediation without having to tear it completely down. >> reporter: now the contractor thinks with his simple repairs they can be done by august. but the county is pretty doubtful. they think this project, the fixes to the project, will take another six months to one year and get this andrea -- if they can't figure this out soon, the issue is locally to head the court and that essentially

from you on facebook. andrea? thank you jess. this afternoon a prince george's county volunteer firefighter will get to go home after nearly two months in the hospital. kevin o tool was one of seven firefighters injured in february while battling a house fire in river dale which was later ruled arson. the 22-year-old suffered second degree and third degree burns over half his body. he's scheduled to be released from washington hospital center this afternoon, he still has months of physical therapy ahead of him. now to a lighter story from a local school. geography never tasted so good. students at hb wood lawn in arlington to be a bite out of the -- took a bite out of the lessons last night. the eight graders constructed a map on the world in the school's gym using thousands of cupcakes. the student also completed a more traditional and less tasty assignment. they also took donations to split twine the u. n.'s food world program and the arlington center. we have a not so appetizing

about 7:50 the evening and a lot of sunshine today. like yesterday a beautiful lunch hour and then a gorgeous afternoon. south southeast winds 5 to # miles an hour. 74 at 4:00. i think we'll be about 75 for the high in washington but some areas south and west of town in the upper 70s and clouds start to come in tonight 8:00 p.m. partly cloudy and 69 degrees. visibility down to one quarter mile in frederick, three quartzers in particular pinsburg and -- quarters in martinsburg and andrews and leonardtown visibility a quarter mile. zero at tappahannock. pax river five miles by the way and here in town our visibility is pretty good. ten miles, temperatures are down in the 40s 234 most areas and although still 54 at reagan national. but columbia, croftton down to 45. it's down to 43 manassas and leesburg and lovettsville only 41 and 43 also in bladensville. reston 44. definitely jackets this morning. pretty good visibility here in town on the michael & son weather camera with clear skies

and partly cloudy skies. we've got just a few high clouds coming in here. there's a line of showers and storms from chicago to st. louis. that's a pretty big cold front that's going to come our way and pretty important one because it's going to give us rain today. we'll keep the temperatures on the warm side. and as this front gets closer to us tomorrow, midday some showers north and west. showers and storms move in in the afternoon and evening hours and then low pressure comes up the front on sunday. that will give us more rain and that could be a real soaking rain. especially east of town. that storm comes war us we could be talking about 1, # inch rain totals and maybe more. 72 today. upper 70s tomorrow with the afternoon and evening showers and storms. more rain sunday. not likely to see thunder but 58 and then as we head toward monday, 52 with some showers. still unsettled and cool so at least the middle of next week. it is 5:49. monika samtani how's it looking on the roads?

i was just on the phone with maryland state police up in frederick to get an update on the tractor-trailer fire on i-70 near route 40. just still out there trying to clean-up the mess that was caused by that fire. the tractor-trailer and only the left lane is getting through and that's why you've got all that red trying to get through frederick and over to 270. if that's what you do in your early morning commute. so if u.s. and keep that in mike d'antoni for your -- just keep that in mind for your travel plans definitely unexcepted. route 109 on 270 and this is great down to the point where the lanes divide. really no issues to report at least on 270. this time down south oned 95 southbound. no problems to report just heavy traffic forming now out of lorton. in fact a live look in springfield. those brake lights begin in lorton through springfield all lanes are open and a quick look 95 at duck street also looking great. as you head for the 14th street bridge. coming up in my next report, we'll go to the beltway north of town at 6:00.

back to you guys. thanks monika. the man accused in the shooting death of the unarnolded florida teenager could be walking out of jail today. this morning george zimmerman's lawyer is going to and a judge to set bond. the neighborhood watch volunteer is charged with second degree murder in trayvon martin's death. zimmerman says the shooting was self-defense. the air and space museum center is opening early this morning at 8:30 for visitors wanting to see the space shuttle discovery. it sat nose to nose yesterday with enterprise. the visitors must make advance reservations through the museum's website. seafood lovers rejoice. a huge bounceback from the chesapeake bay four years after the crabbing industry was on the verge of collapse. the bay's blue crab population hit a 19 year high. the governor o mall low says the successful changes mean the health of the bay is not a hopeless cause. we have some important news

pests. the residents here blame it on what we can see right there. besides that live rat we saw a tail and other less active fur. neighbors say it's been a problem for years. but one defended the place. >> a bit shoddy but i hear the food is actually pretty good. >> mid city deli is now open to the public after passing the reinspection. we found a total of nine recent closures most for serving food without any hot cleaning water according to health officials. those restaurants include king chevron store on martin luther king jr. southeast and a market at check cash plus on minnesota avenue northeast. in the district. bread corner in rockville. cafe on south george mason in falls church and they've always passed reinspections and reopened. but in prince george's county inspectors shut down three barbecue trucks for serving without a license. the district reports shutting
