already been launched for the summer season. it was near 80 saturday and now this. >> this year we should have swapped march for april. >> now it's snowing. i'll get my skis on and go now. >> over at the wisp ski resort, they are shoveling snow, but they haven't been skiing since st. patrick's day. only to get socked with snow a month after the lift shut down. >> i've had snow after my birthdays on april 26. after my birthday several times, so it's not really that rare. >> it can happen. >> garrett county locals like to remind the rest of us that because of the high altitude, a half mile up here, the climate is more like michigan than maryland. contractors are ready and able to plow snow instead of mowing grass this week. highway crews cleared roads in short order and everyone got a rare glimpse of one of the prettiest sights around. the winter storm warning

continues until 2:00 tuesday morning. spring is predicted to return with it happens near 60 degrees by thursday and some april showers. at deep creek lake in western maryland, scott broom, 9news now. >> better watch out. scott broom has been known to strap on the skis. take a look at this video from earlier today. this is from rochester, new york. in addition to all that snow, rochester had gusts of wind up to 40 miles an hour. all of which we are so glad is there and not here. >> true. good news for us, we had a soaking rain. we needed that rain. we came out ahead. let me show you this picture. this is a fantastic picture. this is not too far from us. this is northeast of hagerstown. bill wolfe sent us these pictures. he had 10 inches of snow on halloween, he had a few inches today, not much inbetween. could see a couple snow flakes tonight. here's a look at the radar.

we see some showers pushing through. everything that moves through now will be spotty and light, but it will be unsettled now for the next 36 hours. live doppler 9,000. showers up 270 as we get past gaithersburg, some showers out route 7 into loudoun county and also a few showers out 66. everything is generally on the light side. bad news, look at the temperatures. 46 in manassas. 43 in frederick. once you get into western allegheny county, you'll see a sign. once you cross, look at that, it's 32 degrees. we'll come back and talk about when we begin to dry out and when temperatures reflect more seasonal averages. >> thank you, topper. chaos caught on camera as a pair of dogs attack three kids and maul a man who jumped in to save them. now, neighbors want to know why those dogs are still out there. we have to warn you, you do not have to be a small kid to think this video is pretty shocking. >> i'm kristin fisher in the

trinidad neighborhood of northeast washington where people are very frustrated by the lack of progress after friday's vicious dog attack. so far, the owners have not been identified. no charges have been filed and no one knows where the dogs are. watch as three children crime on top of a car to get away from two huge dogs. >> they were wild. they were basically like they were trained to attack. >> this woman wants to remain unanimous, but she watched it all happen. in fact, watch here as her husband took on those two dogs with nothing but his bare hands and a small knife. >> seeing the kids, going to get hurt. so i automatically just said, threw myself out there and allowed the dogs to take my left arm. >> they know where the dogs lift and who the owners are, but all police and animal control will say is they are investigating. not very reassuring. especially with a daycare center just across the street.

pennsylvania, connecticut, delaware will hold contests tomorrow. opening statements got underway today in the roger clemens perjury retrial. the former pitcher is accused of lying to congress in 2008 when he testified that he never used steroids. clemens former trainer is the government's key witness. brian says he even saved the needle as evidence. this trial is expected to last 6 to 8 weeks. >> president obama has announced a new strategy to help prevent the slaughter of innocent people. during the visit to the memorial visit in d.c., the president commemorated the 6 million jews and others killed at the hands of nazi germany. then, he vowed to never allow the genocide to happen again. >> killings in cambodia, the killings in rowanda, the killings in bosnia, the killings in darfur. they shock our conscience, but

a new trial or declare them not guilty. one month after he was allowed to resign temporarily, the sanford police chief could decide for his handling, tried to do it permanently. but that offer was rejected by city commissioners. these are the same commissioners that recently gave him a vote of no confident. lee had temporarily stepped down in an effort to restore calm to the city in the wake of protests surrounding the case of trayvon martin. meanwhile, the man at the center of the case is out on bail tonight. zimmerman, of course, accused of killing the unarmed martin in february. he walked out of jail this morning after posting $15,000 bail and he appeared to be wearing a bullet proof vest under that jacket. zimmerman's attorney is keeping his clients location a secret. >> we have not had any active threats recently. but the concern is that there is such a ground swelling of opposition to what they believe his position to be that we're concerned about.

>> and here are some of the conditions of zimmerman' release. he has to wear an electronic monitoring device. he has to obey a curfew and cannot use a firearm. also he has to check in with the authorities. after the break on 9news now, a virginia woman wins the lottery twice in one day. you'll want to know that story. plus, a couple of dogs attack a man and three kids. we saw the shocking video just moments ago. in just a few, we'll tell you what you can do if you find yourself in the same situation.

a virginia woman has become the first person to ever win two $1 million power ball prizes on tickets bought from the same store for the very same drawing. virginia is going to take home $1.4 million after taxes. the woman planned on buying one megamillions ticket and one powerball ticket, but she bought two powerballs and it worked out. >> after the break, a full look at your seven-day from topper shutt and also talk about how to protect yourself when dogs attack.

we told you about this story earlier in our newscast. a couple of really big scary looking dogs attack a man and three kids. what should you do? is there a right way or wrong way to react and is there a way to avoid getting hurt? joining us now, certified dog trainer, rachel jones. i want to thank you for coming in. you saw the video. huge monster dogs attack. what would you do? >> quietly sit down on the ground, put your head down and cover your head with your hands. >> i got to tell you, but that sounds counterintuitive to a lot of us. >> yes, it is. but running away is the worst thing to do. >> why? >> because running activates a

dog's prey drive. they see something fleeing and they want to chase it. >> maybe attack it. >> correct. >> we saw the aggressiveness of the dogs and the dogs climb up on the car after the person, what does that tell you about what these dogs are trying to do? >> seems like they were hunting. seemed like they were after those kids. >> when you say hunting, what does that mean? >> they saw the kids running and fleeing and flipped the switch in their brain and made them want to chase the kids. >> obviously do them harm. did those people make any mistakes? obviously they did make mistakes. they didn't sit on the ground. again, that's tough to do. >> it is tough to do, but if you scream and run around and flail around, you're just making the dog want to chase you more. >> i love this man's courage who jumped in here to save these kids. obviously he got bit. he actually made the right move in protecting. >> he managed to only get

bitten in his arms. he didn't get bitten in any vital organs or in his neck. >> when a dog is attacking, if you can't disarm the situation by not being aggressive, by sitting down and putting your arms up, you want to make sure you don't put a vital part. >> correct, which is why you want to cover your face and neck and get bitten in the arms if you have to. >> when a dog goes for the throat, not trying to tear your throat out, they have another thing in mind. >> they bite down and hold down until you strangle, until you die of suffocation. >> it's a different idea. when you see dogs that aggressive and that dangerous, what sort of dogs are they? what life have the dogs have? >> they have been bred by bad people, to fight each other or attack people. >> a dog has been, the friendliest dog around, petted by kids around and something set them off. these dogs are genetically,

over toward 95. again, everything is light. that is good. live doppler 9,000. we zoomed in a little bit and here are the showers. really, essentially from the spur northward and out route 7 as you head toward leesburg and a few showers out warrenton. everything is light and diminishing somewhat. you might see a wet snow flake tonight. 46 college park. 42 in bethesda. 43 in great falls. 43 in reston. 46 in manassas. 43 in leesburg and 44 in beltsville. so here's the deal. drying out, all be it gradually. breezy and cold tonight. showers, maybe a wet snow flake. mountain snows continue and more sun tomorrow. tomorrow will be a much brighter day. mostly cloudy. breezy and cold. showers, 36 to 42. winds south, southwest 10 to 20. by morning, variable clouds. shower or flurry possible early. a lot of sun tomorrow morning. by afternoon, mix of clouds and

in the mail bag, a secret service sex scandal. our good friend says there's more than one good reason to be upset. i know it was two days before the president was supposed to be there, but what if they were hung over and tired? personally, i don't care if they party hardy, but they need to be coherent and clear headed and not have a job over their

heads when they are taking care of their president. what i understand, these agents with taste for the hookers were part of the jump team, which goes in before the president arrived and not the guys who might have to take a bullet for the big guy, but vanessa says there are plenty of reasons to be upset with this situation. these agents make sure every minute detail of the trip is secure so there won't be any kidnappings or riots. when they had the rendezvous, did anyone consider these ray ladies were government agents? there's just no excuse for the arrogance. well the national security argument is a powerful one, which is why this is so devastating. think about it, if we were talking executives from microsoft or ge getting prostitutes in another country, the likelihood is, we wouldn't be talking about it at all.
