into the low 60s. your day planner, sun and clouds mixed with mostly cloudy this afternoon. you may stay with more sun south of town late. highs in the low 60s with lunch time temps in the upper 50s and still breezy. probably another day you won't be eating your lunch outdoors. you can see the storm system spinning still over new york state. we've got a batch of clouds coming out of eastern west virginia, northern virginia. it's going to be with us for a few more hours before it breaks up a little bit. our temperatures, they're definitely on the chilly side. look at that. 38 right now in leesburg and hagerstown. 37 in frederick and some windchills are down into the low 30s in these spots. we're at 42 but even down to the south it's 41 la plata and the pax river naval air station 43. looking for a high down there today maybe 65. they could be one of the warm spots with more sun. 62 for d.c. 55, though, north of us in hagerstown. it's 5:00 a.m. monika santami is here with your time saver traffic. been a relatively easy early morning rush hour. let's hope it stays that wai. the beltway is looking fine.

no issues to report heading northbound on 95 in virginia. coming up from dale city to woodbridge across the occoquan river. we'll take a live look in springfield where you're just going to see a tiny bit of volume. let's go a little further north to duke street northbound on 395. again main and hov lanes both running very smoothly up to the 14th street bridge and in the downtown area i haven't heard of any complaints. let's go back over to the maps. this time to the north side of town. the beltway is final. no issues this morning between college park and silver spring thankfully. 95 looks good in from baltimore, 270 in from frederick. we'll take a live look over at bradley boulevard at route 355 in bethesda and as you can see, it's nice and quiet through this corridor as well. coming up in my next report, we'll take a look at the route 50 side. back to you. >> thank you, monika. metro took on a late night cleaning operation after one of its bus drivers was diagnosed with viral meningitis. >> this had to be a pretty big operation. there are a lot of buses involved they're worried about. the good news is the condition

is less serious than bacterial meningitis but metro is still notifying customers and taking as many precautions as possible. delia goncalves is live in northwest washington with the story. there's a lot of hard work. >> reporter: certainly. they're scrubbing down all these buses, including the number 54. that's one of the buses affected. you can see the lights are on. it's in the bus depot ready to go for the morning. let's hope this bus has been sanitized and metro is assuring us that these buses have been sanitized. you said this viral meningitis is not as serious as bacterial and that is certainly the good news here. doctors basically describe it like the flu and it's not very serious. so this is the 14th and colorado stop which is the last stop that this bus usually takes. according to metro, the sick driver, he was driving the 52 and 54 buses friday morning

only. the bus traveled from 14th and buchanan down to l'enfant plaza between the hours of 7:13 a.m. and 10:18 a.m. metro is not only scrubbing down those buses affected but all 164 buses at the garage on 14th street. >> i'm glad that they're disinfecting the buses and reacting kind of massively and cons hencively to it -- comprehensively to it. >> the man has to work. he's somebody's father, husband. he has to work. >> reporter: that man is expected to be okay. doctors are telling us the symptoms only last about seven to ten days so coming up at 5:30, we're going to hear more from doctors who will give us a more detailed breakdown on what viral meningitis is and how you can be affected and what kind of symptoms you can expect. we'll have more on that at 5:30. back to you. >> thank you, delia goncalves

on the update. defendants have spent nearly three decades in prison convicted in the murder of katherine fuller. the mother of six was found beaten, robbed and sodomized in an alley in northeast washington. in the decade since several witnesses have recanted. as a 16-year-old yarbough bow said -- [indiscernible] jury selection is under way in a child molestation case in falls church, virginia. three young girls say 48-year- old michael gardner fondled them while they attended his daughter's sleepover last june. at the time the accusers were ages 9 and 10. prosecutors say they have a d.n.a. match to gardner from one of the girl's underpants but prosecutors also say sperm from one of the other girl's father was found on her pajamas. that father told 9news transference happened in the

washing machine. gardner's wife, robin is the former mayor. snowplows have been pretty busy in parts of far western maryland in the last 24 hours. we got rain here. snow, however, fell in the higher elevations. the road crews had to dust off their equipment and hit the highways, at least to keep the main routes open. some of the places out that way got more than half a foot of snow. garrett county workers had to stop what they were doing for warm weather preps and switch to snow flows. >> since we've had such pretty weather, a lot of our plows and spreader boxes were off because we were getting ready for our spring inspection. >> when you spend winter down in florida and come back, this is not fun. >> she is tan. all the snow did not sit on the tree branches. they're are not a large number of power outages in western maryland. time for the latest your money report in the morning. >> jessica is here talking the money. >> tough day on wall street

yesterday. investors really hoping for a distraction from the latest federal reserve meeting on interest rates. those will be the main events for wall street today and tomorrow. that comes after stocks finished a lot lower on concerns about europe's mounting debt and economic slowdown going on in china. checking the numbers, the dow stands at 12,927, dropped 102 points in trading yesterday. believe it or not that was actually good. that was a recovery from as much as 184 points slide earlier in the session. nasdaq lower by 30. s&p 500 lower by 11. the public relations nightmare for wal-mart dealing with allegations of bribery in mexico could be the least of its worries if the acts turn out to be true. wal-mart covered up the findings of an internal probe and failed to notify law enforcement after the company's investigators found evidence of millions of dollars in bribes given to mexican officials. those were in exchange for getting building permits faster and other favors. if wal-mart actually violated the foreign corrupt practices

act with bribery, the company could face hundreds of millions of dollars in fines, top wal- mart executives could lose their jobs or even worse they could go to jail. one-time reality tv star ter terek is a hall hi is being sued. this suit alleges salahi, owner of virginia wine tour.com failed to deliver tours as promised and didn't give refunds for the canceled tours and just a lot of money. the tours ranged in price of 200 bucks to over 1300. he's also accused of misrepresenting representable businesses such as united airlines as official partners. >> what a disaster. >> perfect way to put it. >> i don't understand wall street. china and the european situation was the same on thursday, friday, and then you have this big collapse on monday. it makes no sense. >> i thought you were talking

it's 5:09 on this chilly tuesday morning. we've got cloudy skies out there now. we're going to see a little sun today. that will help us get warmer than yesterday. it's going to be mainly dry, too. i suppose there could be a late shower in the mountains but we really are looking partly sunny to mostly cloudy. upper 50s by noon with highs in the low 60s and a bit of a breeze out of the west and southwest at 10 to 20 miles an hour. seven day coming up in a few. right now monika with time saver traffic. 270 southbound leaving clarksburg at route 121, as you can see traffic still moving well down to the point where the lanes divide. there are no complaints on route 355 or the great seneca highway. coming up in my next report, we'll take a look at 66 in virginia at 5:17. making news now at 5:10 in the trayvon martin case, the police chief in sanford, florida is staying on the job. bill lee stepped aside temporarily but city commissioners have new rejected his offer to resign even though

they recently gave him a vote of no confidence. sanford police have been criticized for not arresting george zimmerman right after he shot and killed the teenager in february. police in new york city have now ended the search they started last week in the patz case. investigators dug up a concrete floor near where the boy lived but found nothing useful there. voters in five northeastern states go to the polls today for presidential primaries. the big prize is pennsylvania which was expected to be competitive until rick santorum suspended his campaign earlier this month. mitt romney is expected to be about 200 delegates away from the republican nomination by day's end. so a good day for him expected. taking tests can be stressful, especially if they go on to determine whether or not you get a college degree. however, puppies can help out. in fact, they're helping local

new england is still facing snow. >> a little bit in new york and pennsylvania. we get these anomalies here and there. makes life interesting, doesn't it? >> anomaly is usually a few flakes. >> when it's april 20 degrees below normal, the phone is ringing off the hook, what's going o. the normal variability of weather. regardless, we get these things and we're recovering today. here's a look at your bus stop forecast. you'll need the jackets for sure. put the little ones in. again no shorts today, kids. story about that. -- sorry about that. temps in the 30s and 40s under mostly cloudy skies. sunrise at 6:19. recess, even that's going to be brisk as temperatures by noon get into the 50s with a southwest wind of 15 miles an hour or so. so still a chill out there, 57. this afternoon 61 at 4:00 with a high about 62 under mostly cloudy skies as we head home

and 57 by 8:00. we'll be back in the 30s and 40s tonight. there's the snow, new york state and northern pennsylvania. nowhere near us anymore. we had some totals in places like frostburg about 6 inches. west virginia, right about here, they had about 8 inches of snow as well. 32 in oakland this morning with the snow on the ground while culpeper and gaithersburg are 37. down south pax river 43 and easton our warm spot at 45. windchills, though, making it feel like it's in the 30s area wide this morning, although 24, that's a cold windchill in oakland. looking outside on our michael & son camera, good visibilities under mostly cloudy skies. notice the flagsticking up this morning with the wind at the capitol. we're looking at a dew point of 34 degrees. so the air is drying out. want to show you national temps. you can see the chill across the eastern u.s. but out toward the central and west, fairly mild. 50s and 60s in many areas this

morning. some scattered showers in the northern rockies and northwest. of course we're still watching this nor'easter bringing rain to maine and snow here to our north and northwest. it's 9-inch totals in parts of new york state, parts of pennsylvania, a foot, foot and a half locally here. they seemed to have hit the jackpot with the snow. tonight we pay see a sprinkle push through. then as we head into thursday, that's our next best chance for some showers and storms. so 62 today. tonight 30s and 40s. 67 tomorrow. tomorrow looks pretty good. thursday warmer but with scattered showers, maybe some thunder, 73 degrees. friday we're drying out for the most part. maybe a late storm 66. saturday maryland day, i'll be out there from 9:30 to 11:30. monika will be out there as well at 12:30, high around 70. sunday a chance for a couple of storms, temps in the mid-60s. it's 5:17. speaking of monika santami,

amazing, here she is. wow, she just disappears out of nowhere. i think things are looking great. no big problems to report. one issue on 270. out of southern maryland, though, things look great. route 5, route 4, 301, 210 out of accokeek to oxon hill, over to the wilson bridge to diser der ya you're going to be -- to alexandria you're going to be fine. 270 southbound i'm getting word of a possible medical emergency south of montrose road. it looks like things are getting just a tiny bit heavy heading south of montrose road but before old georgetown road. ail he keep you posted on that situation as the information comes in. back over to the maps this time to virginia. no issues to report right now on the inbound side of i-66 out of manassas into centreville. we're looking good on the beltway as well. we'll take a live look outside in virginia here at route 50, arlington boulevard. all the overnight construction through tysons and the toll road cleared up for the morning. speaking of which, starting tonight virginia won't be the only place with beltway construction going on.

5:22. a few clouds out there now. we're going to see a mix of clouds and sunshine as we go through the morning with temperatures by 9:00 in the 40s, even 50 at baltimore. annapolis 51. low to mid-40s north. this afternoon lunch time, yeah, a little chilly to be outside eating lunch but we'll northbound the upper 50s with a mix of clouds and sunshine. a few more clouds as we go through mid afternoon but temperatures at least will get

pictures. enjoyed seeing those yesterday but i'm a snow fan. what can i say on this year when we had two lousy inches of snow in washington. but some people say hey, it was a great winter. i get that as well. here's a look at your day planner for this tuesday. it is tuesday. 42 right now in washington. 48 by 9:00. yes, a mix of clouds and sun expected, 57 at lunch time. kind of breezy this afternoon. once again with a west to southwest wind at ten to 20 miles an hour. 5:00 60 so i think we'll make highs in the low 60s. the storm from yesterday, still spinning up across parts ever new york and pennsylvania. -- parts of new york and pennsylvania. there are the clouds we're watching this morning that are messing up the sky cover us for and keeping us even colder. it's in the 30s and 40s out there now. you'll notice frederick at 38. manassas is at 41. andrews at 40. easton and annapolis 45. your highs today more clouds north and south. cooler north in the 50s to 62

here in d.c. 5:29. monika santami, we're doing pet good on the roads, aren't we? we really are. fingers crossed because yesterday was a whole different story. we don't want a repeat of yesterday. on the beltway, west side of town things are looking great between the american legion bridge, dulles toll road, 66, all of that is running smoothly into annandale and springfield. if you're planning to head here, canal road at fox hall road as you can see nice and quiet at the intersection heading towards georgetown, whitehurst freeway and rosslyn. let's go back over to the maps, this time to the other side of town. no problems to report on 95 out of baltimore, bw parkway, same story. no complaints over any of the anacostia or potomac river crossings this morning. coming up in my next report, we'll go to 95 in virginia at 5:38. there's new information in

the murder of a marine near the barracks in southeast washington. >> according to court documents, 20-year-old michael paw says he acted in self- defense saturday night. police say he got into an argument with a fellow marine and then stabbed him in the chest. he told investigators he used the knife to defend himself after he was punched in the head. he's charged with second-degree murder. the d.c. department of health has told sigh could i crist -- psychiatrist alan salarian can no longer prescribe class two narcotics. he has sued to get the city's decision overturn bud that could take months -- but that could take months. the federal drug enforcement administration extended his privileges for three more years just before they were suspended. a bus driver has been diagnosed with viral meningitis. metro is taking as many

precautions as possible to keep people safe. delia goncalves live in north wers with the story -- northwest with the story. >> reporter: they have been scrubbing overnight and they were very busy. passengers can be reassured that the buses they see on this route here on 14th street have all been disinfected, scrubbed down. they are clean and safe for you to ride. metro says the bus driver was driving a 52 and 54 buses friday morning. metro has scrubbed down those buses and in fact all 164 buses at the northwest garage here on 14th street. doctors say viral meningitis is common but it really only affects people with compromised immune systems and infants under one month old. >> it can cause fever, headaches, confusion, sometimes light sensitivity. it's contagious just like the flu is or a cold is that if you

come into contact with fluids that the patient had, cue potentially get -- you could potentially get some symptoms. >> reporter: the good news, that doctor that we talked to really said it's not that big of a deal so passengers should not worry but many say they are very thankful that metro is taking this very seriously and as we said, scrubbing down and working hard to disinfect all 164 buses that travel this area. the symptoms we're told last about seven to ten days and we can tell you that the bus driver is expected to be okay. back to you. >> that is good news. makes you want to wash your hands. thanks. one of d.c.'s most beloved musicians is in the hospital now. the godfather of go go chuck brown had to cancel a concert at howard theatre this weekend. in a statement from the theatre, it says the 75-year- old is receiving treatment for joint pain and inflammation. they have rescheduled the concert for june 29. brown posted on april 12 that he was feeling better but he

was still recovering. over the weekend brown's family posted statements thanking their fans. the washington examiner is reporting about new controversial comments if former d.c. mayor marion barry. at a hearing yesterday the ward 8 council member said a number of hospital nurses are immigrants, particularly from the philippines. barry continued saying no offense but let's grow our own teachers, let's grow our own nurses. barry retreated from negative comments he made earlier this month about asian businesses in ward 8 neighborhoods. denot respond to calms for comment -- calls for comment last night. it is 5:34. time for another your money report now. >> jessica doyle is back. there are some worries that cars could be harder to come by later this year. >> that's right. there have been some worries that the auto industry is running out of certain parts, very necessary parts to build cars later this year. no parts, no cars but the auto industry may be closing in on a solution. six major automakers and 19 suppliers are close to agreeing

on a fast track testing process. this process would replace the resin that's in very short supply. the resin is used for fuel and brake lines. the product has been in tight supply since an explosion last month at a german factory where the resin is made. american airlines making its case for changing union contracts and eliminating one out of four union jobs before federal bankruptcy judge. american is expected to take the entire week to make its case. after losing more than $10 billion in the decade leading up to its bankruptcy last november, american says its contracts must be changed and it needs to eliminate 13,000 union jobs. instead the unions would prefer american airlines be bought out by u.s. airways in a deal that would cut fewer jobs. the world's largest theme park company is teaming up with the world's largest coffee chain. starbucks will open stars at disneyland park and walt disney world resort. disney has long been criticized for the limited food and beverage choices at its parks.

six starbucks are scheduled to open in june at disney california adventure and disney is hoping the move will encourage parkgoers to get an earlier start and stay longer. >> because they'll have much more energy to go through the parks again. >> if you don't make reservations at a lot of these restaurants, you have trouble actually getting at the park. >> i remember those days well. it happened even way back when. >> seems like october. >> august. >> you're coming back with daily deals. >> you've got it. >> we'll tell you how puppies are helping area law students get through their exams. we'll be back.

of a breeze. it is a chilly start. today we'll see a little sun. that's going to help. it will be warmer. yesterday was only 50. today i think we'll been 62. so we start with the bus stop forecast and when i suggest jackets and gloves, maybe waiting in a car till the bus comes and gets you because we have temperatures between 36 and 46 out there. most of them are in the 30s to low 40s. sunrise at 6:19. as we head through the day today, a mix of clouds and sun. i think through midday, temperatures by noon still in the 50s but that's better than yesterday. southwest winds 10 to 15, 20 miles an hour. we'll have a little bit of a breeze today and by the afternoon, 4:00 61. 8:00 57. we're dropping back into the 40s, maybe some 30s north and west tonight. still looking at snow across parts of new york state and northern pennsylvania. this stuff is much lighter than what we had yesterday where some of the totals in western maryland in the 6 to 8-inch category in garrett county.

it's a chilly start. mostly cloudy skies. temps in the 30s and 40s. we'll see a mix of clouds and sun this morning. 48 by 9:00. low 40s still north and west. as we head toward the noon hour, still a mix of clouds and sun but still kind of chilly to be outside for lunch. 57 degrees with 59 in cambridge. only 50 in hagerstown. a few more clouds this afternoon. mid-afternoon temps in the mid- 50s to low 60s. we should see a high of about 62 or so with 59 here at 6:00 for the drive home. but it should be a mainly dry day. a food pantry in silver spring, maryland is going beyond just providing meals to the hungry in our area. >> volunteers are making sure healthy food is available. jc hayward introduces us to the rainbow community center in today's hero central. >> reporter: this may look like a produce section of a store

but it is actually the food pantry of the rainbow community development center. this woman drops off donations at least once a week. >> at first when i started it i did it just for the school work but the more i did it, i realized how much i actually was impacting other people and it's just like -- it's a warm feeling. >> reporter: the availability of fresh fruit and vegetables provides essential nutrition, especially to children and seniors according to the executive director. >> they're grateful we have fresh produce because a lot of clients, because of health needs they don't eat the canned food items so they're grateful to be able to get fresh produce. >> reporter: in montgomery county, there are approximately 50,000 people living in poverty. that's about 5.7%. with healthy and nutritious food becoming so expensive, it's the least likely to be

purchased. that's why the rainbow community development center is so important, especially this food bank [ inaudible ] >> reporter: anita griffin says she's grateful to have the help from the pantry for her children and herself. >> it helps me when i run out of food at home. i know that i can always come here. so i pray to god today that they do not shut her down. >> reporter: she's just one of about 100 families the pantry serves each week. >> it's wonderful to know you can help people that really need the help, that you can make a difference in their life. >> reporter: so you sleep much better at night, don't you? >> yes, every day much better. >> reporter: although she told me about her passion for volunteering at the food bank, she says that her friends really don't know about it. well today her secret is out.
