derail your morning commute. >> metro workers in ross land are working to make sure a derailment doesn't hinder the morning rush hour. a blue train went off the rail after 7:00 tonight. >> reporter gary nurenberg live tonight. gary, we understand the good news is, nobody was hurt. >> reporter: derek, as anybody who deals with agencies knows inwashington knows, government officials can use words, and on rare occasions they make sense when they use one of the words. a derailment, rerailment process begins. they're trying to get the cars back on the rails and out of the way. this is the six car train on the lower of the two levels at the rosland station just pulling out. first two cars in the tunnel when: >> one set of wheels on one car

that came off the track. >> reporter: no injuries. passengers in the first two cars just walked into the third car. >> we uploaded again at 7:12 and all passengers were off loaded by 7:21. i would say it was a full six- car train so there were just under 1,000 passengers on board the train. >> reporter: the trains kept running, looked pretty full, but single tracking to get around the derailment caused some delays. >> i had to wait for the orange train to go by, because of the single track, and then wait for the orange train to unload before we could move to the next stop. >> you know, i didn't wait but about 15 minutes. it wasn't too bad, and the train wasn't too crowded, but it was sufficiently late to make me wait for something i wanted to do. to get to the hardware store before it closed. and delays on the platform. >> probably 20 minutes. the train just came, i'm happy, it's all good. >> but what about morning rush? >> crews are going to be working throughout the night and as long as they need to do

poisoned by carbon monoxide. investigators say a broken exhaust pipe in a furnace allowed the carbon monoxide to escape into the home. >> we had a heating system that had a very little piping system. it obviously had not been maintained. >> prince georges fire chief, mike brady, says the amount of carbon monoxide found in the home could have proven fatal in just an hour or two. an 85-year-old woman dies in police custody and now detectives are trying to figure out what happened to her. it started early this morning. the woman apparently had been acting irrationally at the hospital. police were called in. they placed mary gene martin in the back of a patrol car andattempted to take her to a mental facility for evaluation. that's when martin went into some sort of melodies trees and a-- medical distress and attempts to save here were unsuccessful. this woman was caught trying to smuggle cocaine.

but she isn't facing charges. she arrived on a flight from el salvador. customs found six chocolate bars with a cocaine center as well as six small drink boxes with cocaine inside. this woman was identified as a quote, unquote, legitimate currier. she was not criminally charged. instead she faces a five-year ban from entering the united states. five states held their republicans and mitt romney poised to make a clean sweep. cbs's danielle nottingham with more from the white house. chose down a crook who stole his ipalled on the metro. this happened a week ago when daniel was on his way to a second job as an auxiliary police officer in fairfax county. after a long chase and with the help of of another passenger, he got his ipad back. unfortunately he broke his arm in the process. the secret service today decided the state of the final five agents implicated in the columbia prostitution scandal. >> the secret service investigation of the case has been widely praised but tonight some are wondering if the white house rushed its own involvement of possible involvement by white house staffers. matt jablow brings us detail on that. >> reporter: on the five agents dealt with today, two were cleared of serious misconduct, two chose to resign and the secret service is moving to permanently revoke the security clearance and in effect fire run of the acts, in addition to the fix agents who previous resigned or retired. it's been a black eye quite unlike anything the secret

service ever endured. nearly two weeks after secret service agents on president obama's security team in columbia brought prostitutes back to their hotel rooms, secret service director mark sullivan was on capitol hill today trying to ensure congress that the matter was being dealt with swiftly, fairly and comprehensively. >> i give mark solomon a tremendous amount of credit. >> reporter: he said he believes the secret service's internal investigation has been handled well so far, but he's still staggered by the reckless behavior of the 12 agents in question. >> this could have involved national security, it could have compromised national security. why these men put the president potentially at risk, put their careers at risk is absolutely beyond me. >> reporter: while congressman king expressed full confidence in the secret service's internal investigation, he said he had serious questions about the white house's investigation of the possible involvement of white house staffers in the

prostitution scandal. >> the white house counsel's office has conducted a review. >> reporter: according to white house press secretary jay carney that review is now complete and no white house staffers were found to have done anything wrong. >> i would have thought that since anything could have happened down there, that before the white house come out and so categorically said there was no involvement, i'm really wondering what the extent of their investigation was. >> reporter: keep in mind, there's still a third investigation into the prostitution scandal. the u.s. defense department is now looking into the possible role of about a dozen members of the military. derek? >> matt jablow, thank you. a warning tonight about crooks on the prowl trying to take advantage of unsuspecting home owners. the frederick county sheriff's office is reminding people be on the lookout for scammers looking to do home improvement work like driveway sealing, chill my repair or hot tar roofing. that warning after three reports of crooks offering to seal driveways at a discounted

price, but the price much higher than what a normal contractor would charge. investigators say the scammers were most likely ask to be paid in advance in cash and may be hesitant to offer any credentials. alarming, yes, but no need to panic say government officials who are confirming the first case of mad cow disease since 2006. our ken molestina explains how it was picked up and why the usda says humans are not in danger. >> reporter: the disease was found in a dead 5-year-old cow taken here to a plant in california. it was about to be ground into pet food when a random test discovered the illness. officials are sure there was never a danger to humans from the cow's meat or milk because according to veterinarian john clifford, no dead cow is ever slaughtered for human consumption. >> this particular animal did not enter the food supply at any time, so there is no concern about that. >> reporter: the diagnosis is

bovine spongy form, spontaneous and not known to be contagious to humans or animals. atypical means it did not get sick from other cows or eating feed composed of other animals. >> it is not likely to be attributable to infected feed, which is the method in which normally bse would be spread from cow to cow. >> reporter: three americans are thought to have died from mad cow disease, a brain- wasting infection with no cure. but all three spent many years eating beef overseas. no american has been known to die from consuming u.s. beef since increased testing was begun. two concerns tonight. beef exporters in the u.s. are worried that consumers in asia are going to hear the term mad cow and become scared and therefore the purchase of u.s. beef will be slowed. and the second one is although the atypical form of this disease is not going to be a problem, we still don't know what causes it. we're in the satellite center,

temperatures. we're still talking mid-30s to mid-40s. that said, there are frost advisories north and west. a cold start wednesday. if you're in frederick, allow a few extra minutes to scrape frost over your windshield. most of us will have to deal with a cold car at first. jacket, a good idea early on. the kids need a jacket also at the bus stop. milder in the afternoon, though, and warmer on thursday. but a good chance of showers and even some thunderstorms. get the umbrella ready. here's where the advisories have been issued. frederick county, maryland, north and west. loudoun county, viinia, north and west. the freeze warnings have not changed. that continues toward cumberland and hardee county and also that area. that's what we're talking about. that has not changed. overnight, returning partly cloudy and cold. a one blanket night at least. 36 to 46. winds light out of the west at 10. tomorrow morning partly cloudy with a cold start. you'll need a jacket and your shades. temps in the 30s and 40s.
