with a 5:00 p.m. temp of 67. so looks like it's going to abpretty good evening around here. just a tad breezy as winds will pick up out of the west at 10 to 15 this afternoon. look at the satellite and radar. big showers missing us well to our south and west down here. little showers trying to come in from southern pennsylvania. not the all of this is reaching the ground as the air really dried out yesterday behind the big storl earlier in the -- storm earlier in week. 30s and 40s right now. the cool spots being manassas at 34. 36 in la plata. gaithersburg is 38. 48 on the bay in annapolis. we're at 46 in town. temperatures this afternoon going to be nice. breezy, mid-60s in hagerstown. upper 60s d.c. to 72 in culpeper. monika santami is coming with time saver traffic. she's telling me things have improved a lot since the last time we saw her. what a difference 30 minutes make. if you're planning to head around town, i think these are looking much better. all the accidents i was telling

you about north of town four corners on georgia avenue and route 29, that's been cleared. university boulevard and route 29. and even inside the beltway at georgia avenue near kansas, all that police activity is cleared up as well. here's 270 looking great out of gaithersburg into bethesda. no problems down to the point where the lanes divide. we'll take a live look outside right now. if you're planning to head over to the beltway past silver spring, you're going to be okay. here's what it looks like northbound on 95 in springfield. traffic is moving well. there had been an accident down in woodbridge north of route 1. that's been cleared up as well so you're running well across the occoquan river and past the earlier accident scene. we'll go back over to the maps and this time taking a look at the beltway around town. all of this construction should be cleared up now on the west side of town and 66 is looking good as well out of manassas. coming up in my next report, we'll go over to 95 in virginia at 5:09. metro crews have spent the night trying to make things right before the morning rush hour. >> big difference, though, from last night. that's because the blue line

train derailed at the rosslyn station. that is also a transfer point for the orange line so there were plenty of people standing around for a while last night. 9news reporter delia goncalves is standing around at the arlington station this morning to see how things are looking. good morning, delia. >> reporter: good morning, mike and andrea. things are looking really great. unfortunately we don't really see this guy this early so that means he had a long night. >> we do have good news. normal service has been restored on both the blue and orange line in time for this morning's commute so we don't expect any residual problems after last night's minor derailment here in rosslyn. what we do know is the train involved has been taken to a rail yard. it's growing to be inspected as we go through the day today, as we work to identify the root cause of last night's incident. >> reporter: you said minor incident. we know it happened the at tail end of the evening rush, around 7:00, a little after 7:00. folks who were -- folks were offloaded within less than ten

minutes. >> right. it happened just after 7:00. it was a departing blue line train enroute to franconia springfield where just the first set of wheels on the first car came off track just beyond the station limits. but four cars of the train remained on the platform. passengers were able to offload directly to the platform. it took less than ten minutes. no injuries to anyone aboard and we've been working through the night to restore normal service. we've conducted several tests, ran a train over that section multiple times through the overnight so we're confident we're back to business this morning. >> the derailment happened at the switch but we don't know if the switch was the cause at this point, right? >> we don't. it's premature to start talking about cause. there are many things you have to look at in an investigation like this, including the train itself as well as the switch. it did occur right where the blue and orange line diverge and there is a switch there so we'll be looking at that as well, talking to the operator and any other employees who were nearby. >> reporter: back up and running. any delays you foresee? >> none at this point. of course customers are well advised if they're not already

signed up for metro alerts or e- mail alert system. at this point we're not anticipating any. >> reporter: you're sending out tweets with updates so that's also a good resource for riders as well. good news for riders after a little bit of a delay and a little bit of a snag yesterday and a lot of work overnight, everything is running smoothly on metro this morning. back to you. >> delia, we like that i think people appreciated getting information quicker about what was going on and made things better. thank you, delia. today prince george's county firefighters will be canvassing an oxon hill neighborhood where five people died to offer other residents carbon monoxide detectors. firefighters found all five victims yesterday morning inside a home on shelby drive. none of them had been seen since monday afternoon. investigators say a broken exhaust pipe in the furnace was leaking carbon monoxide. the co levels inside the home were more than 500 times the maximum healthy limit. he was behind the wheel

during a car crash that killed two of his friends. a prince william county teenager, however, has been found not guilty -- excuse me, has been found guilty of reckless driving and not involuntary manslaughter according to the judge. 19-year-old christopher swarez hit a deer and slammed into a tree last april. two of his four passengers died in the wreck. he was found not guilty on two counts of involuntary manslaughter because the judge ruled his actions did not amount to criminal negligence. a woman from guatemala is not facing any charges despite arriving at dulles airport carrying four pounds of cocaine worth $130,000. the woman flew in from el salvador last weekend when customs and border protections searched her bag, they found six chocolate bars with the cocaine center as well as six small drink boxes with cocaine inside. but the woman was not criminally charged because she was identified as a legitimate courier. instead she's banned from traveling to the u.s. for the

next five years. 5:05. time for the latest your money report. >> jessica doyle is here with today's head lines. looking up yesterday. >> that's for sure. looking up this morning. tech stocks around the world are actually headed higher and that is thanks to apple's reported quarterly earnings that blew past expectations. it seems everybody nowadays still wants an iphone. this earnings report from apple came after the bell and it came on the heels after good day for wall street thanks to other strong reports from the likes of at&t, 3-m and hershey. the news offset the biggest drop in new home sales in march in more than a year. checking the numbers the dow assistants this morning at 13,001 after adding 74 points in trading yesterday. nasdaq dipped by almost 9 and the s&p 500 was up by 5. bad news is coming out on the banking front today. "the wall street journal" reports that an industry watchdog will warn congress in a report today that 351 small banks cannot afford to repay

federal bailout loans. they owe a total of $15 billion in tarp loans. this report runs counter to the government's recent upbeat assessment of the financial system rescue. one community bank in our area is being singled out for doing a lot right. virginia commerce bank corp. made the forbes list of america's 100 most trustworthy companies. the community bank opened in 1988 and it was saluted for being transparent, having integrity and not playing games with its revenue expenses and assets. it's also the only bank headquartered in virginia to make the list. congratulations to them. >> salute to them. >> that's pretty good. you don't usually hear that word with banks. >> it's nice to hear. >> what do you have for us in the next half hour? >> something not so nice to hear. there's a scam going on in the area that we'll give you a warning about and tell you everything you need to know to protect yourself. >> thank you. more action taken against secret service agents accused in the prostitution scandal in

colombia have been forced out of the agency. two resigned. another is being fired. that means all the service members -- [ inaudible ] a sweep for mitt romney winning all five of tuesday's republican presidential primaries. cbs news estimates he's about 300 delegates shy of the magic number 1144 needed to clinch the g.o.p. nomination. ron paul and newt gingrich are still technically in the race. however, beginning river is saying he is going -- gingrich is saying he is going to support romney if he becomes the nominee officially. the talk is switching to who romney might choose for his runle mate and while some have definitely said no, that's not what the virginia governor is saying. hear governor mcdonnell's answer at 5:33. could the nats maintain their winning ways? >> howard is getting more concerned about our weekend

i-95 coming up from woodbridge toward the occoquan river and into springfield. you're going to be fine. let's take a live look there right now where you're going to see a bit of volume forming. northbound on 95 it always looks like this right around this time of the morning unless something happens. so things right now are normal. we'll go a little further north on 395 at duke street and again no problems to report. main and hov lanes running well to the 14th street bridge. we'll take you back over to the maps and this time to the other side of town. bw parkway route a inside the beltway, no issues through cheverly into the northeast corridor and taking a live look on the the beltway north of town near university boulevard traffic moving well. coming up in my next report, we'll take a look at 270 at 5:40. the protestors plan to arrive at the u.s. supreme court early this morning. >> a senate committee held a hearing on immigration law yesterday and today the nation's highest court will hear arguments on whether arizona's law is constitutional. that law requires police to check people's immigration status when they're stopped for

to share that good news. metro is back up and running and ready for your commute into work this morning. the blue line at rosslyn derailed just after 7:00 p.m. yesterday. no one was hurt and about a thousand passengers on that six- car train offloaded within ten minutes. the derailment happened at the switch between the blue and orange lines but metro was still investigating the exact cause. >> had to wait for the orange train to go by because of the single track and then wait for the orange train to unload before we could move to the next stop. >> probably about 20 minutes. i've been working my homework. the train just came. i'm happy. it's all good. >> reporter: it is all good now. metro suggests that passengers stay connected with what's happening on metro by using their phones to log on to twitter or to log on to metro alerts. back to you, andre andrea. >> delia goncalves reporting live from arlington. d.c. police are

investigating a murder in northwest washington. officers found a man's body last night at 800 emerson street but at the back of that location. so far police have not released any information about possible suspects or a motive in this crime. in district heights, maryland, sky 9 video shows the scene where prince george's county police found a body on addison road south. the man had been shot. he was rushed to the hospital but later pronounced dead. no information yet about any leads or a suspect or motive in this case. now to campaign 2012. they call it the veppsta -- vipestakes, who will be mitt romney's running mate. virginia governor bob mcdonnell is not one of them but he's still not running it out. >> i'm not looking for it. i'm not asking for it. i've got a great job, as you know, but i think any public servant if the nomar garciaparra knee comes and -- if the nominee comes and says you can help my country, of

high. today it is cold, especially this morning. we've got some frost advisories north and west. freeze warnings in the mountains. those frost veriries as -- frost advisories as close as frederick and places like loudoun county and fauquier county. it goes till 9:00 this morning. they may be dropped early depending how quickly things warm up. at the bus stop this morning, mainly clear, partly cloudy. temps running in the 30s and 40s but winds are light. so that's one of the positives this morning. sunrise in about a half an hour and the skies already starting to brighten out to the west. day planner, i think we're going to see a good deal of sun. 52 by 9:00. at 11:00 already going to be at 60. a pretty nice lunch hour. been wanting to eat outside. low to mid-60s during the lunch hour. we get to the upper 60s, even close to 70 in a few spots. the for the high this afternoon. the winds pick up 10 to 15 out of the west. this morning they're on the

light side. we're watching some clouds coming across the area, especially north. looks like there are a few sprinkles on radar but having a tough time confirming anything actually reaching the ground. the air has dried out. it's cooled off. you'll notice the mid-30s in gaithersburg to 42 in columbia. to our south we've got upper 30s in alexandria and springfield right now with 34 manassas and lovettsville andsterring. scattered frost potentially into western fairfax and northern montgomery county even though they officially are not under the frost advisory. looking at our michael & son weather camera. we've got light winds out there. partly cloudy skies and good visibility. 46 but with the southwest wind at 3, not much of a windchill. feels like 45 degrees. the northwest flow continues. you can see everything moving from northwest to southeast. while this little disturbance has missed us, looks like we're going to get something in here as we head into tomorrow. today we'll end up being partly to mostly sunny. clouds start to thicken up

overnight. we can't rule out a stray shower by tomorrow morning but look at the next feature coming across the region as we head toward the middle of the day on thursday with showers and potentially a couple of rumbles of thunder even into the afternoon hours. late in the day can't rule out a shower in the mountains. this will all clear us out thursday night so that friday looks dryer although cooler. tomorrow's highs are going to poke to the 70s. today upper 60s to around 70. 40s and 50s tonight. not nearly as chilly. scattered showers, maybe thunder on thursday, mid-70s. friday cooler, partly sunny, 64. maryland day 60 degrees on saturday. could be a couple of late showers. sunday 64. and then monday and tuesday, still mainly in the 60s. a little back door front might slide through. if that happens we'll be even cooler come sunday. monika santami, 5:49, she's doing it by memory so not too much must be going on. i'm a little late because i just found out about an accident. i'm so sorry. eight in manassas on the inbound side of i-66 after route 234. it's the two left lanes that
