part of that law requires police to check the status of everyone they stop. those who cannot prove they are legal u.s. residents can be arrested. >> the justices today are going to look at the legal issues, specifically does congress have the exclusive power over immigration or are k states like as -- can states like arizona get involved? >> the obama administration sued arizona to block the law. saying the federal government should be in charge of immigration. attorneys representing arizona argue that the law is necessary to control illegal immigration in a state that shares a border with mexico. as the justices were hearing arguments inside court, protestors were argue, they are side of the case outside. delia goncalves has more. >> reporter: after a 48 hour prayer vigil outside a u.s. supreme court, hundreds of protestors rally against the arizona immigration law. >> what do we want?

sb 1070 from arizona is creating really a terrible climate of fear. it breaks up families. >> reporter: regardless of the decision from the justices protestors say their fight is not over and includes a civil rights class action lawsuit currently in federal district court. outside the u.s. supreme court, delia goncalves, 9news now. now let's turn our attention to the 2012 presidential campaign. mitt romney won all five republican primaries held yesterday by overwhelming majorities. and here's a look at the delegate count. according to "usa today." mitt romney has 844. he needs 300 more to clinch the nomination. virginia governor bob mcdonnell campaigned for romney yesterday in indiana. fueling speculation that he could be romney's pick for vice president. >> i'm not campaigning for it. i love being governor of virginia. the job held by thomas jefferson and weave got a lot of -- we've got a lot of positive things happening with

our state. low unemployment and surpluses and i'm thrilled with what i'm doing. it's completely a choice that mitt romney needs to make about what he thinks he would like to have in a running mate and we'll have to stay tuned to see what he says. >> gop candidate newt gingrich says that he will keep campaigning in north carolina this week but he's not sure if his campaign will continue after that. the head of homeland security is on capitol hill today answering questions about the secret service scandal. the hearing comes after the secret service announced that it has dealt with all 12 agents who were implicated in the prostitution scandal. ines ferre has more. >> reporter: homeland security secretary janet napolitano told a judiciary panel that a thorough and full investigation into the scandal sundays way. >> the allegations are inexcusable and we take them very seriously. >> reporter: the incident happened in colombia earlier this month ahead of the president's trip to the summit

of the americas. agents are accused of bringing prostitutes back to the hotel room in colombia. >> to your knowledge is this the first time that something like this has happened. >> over the past two and a half years the secret service office of professional responsibility has not received any such complaint. >> reporter: of the 12 agents being investigated, nine are being forced out and three have been cleared of serious wrongdoing. >> nobody wants to see the president's security compromised. nobody wants to see america embarrassed. >> reporter: president obama addressed the scandal on nbc's "late night with jimmy fallon." the president called the incident distracting but defended the agency that protects him and his family. >> a couple of knuckle heads shouldn't detract from what you know what they do but what these guys were thinking i don't know. that's why -- they're not there anymore. >> reporter: the pentagon is still dealing with its half of the scandal. 12 members of the armed forces have had their security clearances suspended while the

investigation continues. ines ferre, cbs news, new york. >> the incident in colombia was exposed after a prostitute and a secret service employee got into an argument over payment in the hallway of the hotel. today in court, doctors will announce that they believe he remains mentally incompetent to stand trial but could eventually be found competent with more treatment. the german charge is charged -- man is charged with killing his much older wife last august. she was found strangled and beaten in georgetown inside the couple's home. prince george's county's fire chew is going to be in -- chief is going to be in south lawn today. firefighters will be checking homes for carbon monoxide detectors. five people died of poisoning yesterday. they were found in a home just

east of indian head highway south of the feltway. when ems teams get to the home. all five people were alive but they were unconscious. they were pulled from the home but they died a short time later. firefighters blame a broken pipe in a furnace which filled the home with carbon monoxide. >> we had a heating system that had a very oldpiping system and of course had -- obviously had not been maintained. >> firefighters found levels more than 100 times the level of what is considered normal and healthy. and that amount can kill a person in about an hour. carbon monoxide is called the silent killer. because the symptoms of poisoning can be very generic and differ from person to person. the most common symptoms are reddish skin, shortness of breath, dizziness. headaches and muscle fatigue. if you think you're suffering from poisoning, the best thing

media mogul rupert murdoch says that he wants to set the record straight in his testimony of britain's high court. the billionaire is facing tough questions about the close ties with the media and politicians which some think may have led to the phone hacking scandal. monica villamizar has more. >> reporter: rupert murdoch seemed relaxed as he took a seat at a government hearing into media ethics. the media giant insisted he's not angry at britain's prime minister for bringing him into it. >> i welcomed the opportunity to do it. >> reporter: he denied telling editors which british politicians to support. revelations murdoch's company spied on public figures and hacked phones of murdered victims to get information has sparked public outrage. i'm jessica doyle. 9news now. a jet blue flight made a safe emergency landing after two geese hit its windshield. this happened last night just moments after takeoff from west chester county airport in new york. the florida bound flight then declared an emergency. no one was injured but a jet blue spokesperson says that the captain decided to return to the gate as a means of caution. the 54 passengers were moved to another plane which landed safely at palm beach international airport later and some of them described thics pierce. pierce-- experience. >> the plane started swerving immediately right after the two hit. so he was -- rocking the plane back and forth. and we knew something was going on. i'm going to die. like i'm not going to see my family and i'm not going to get home. but i'm okay and i'm very thankful that everything turned out very well. >> a similar incident happened

last thursday when at least one bird got sucked into a engine of a delta flight from kennedy international airport. and that plane returned to the airport. nasa's celebrating a birthday for one of its better known projects. >> discovery, go for hubble release. >> well, the shuttle discovery sent the hubble space telescope into orbit 22 years ago. the telescope is positioned 381 miles above earth's surface. >> we came very close today. >> giving us images, ten times clearer than any telescope on earth. it also discovered a belt of hundreds of millions of comets and asteroids circling our solar system. and nasa set a new date to move the space shuttle enterprise to new york. it's going to be friday. bad weather declayed the original -- declayed the original -- delayed the original departure on monday. they're going to the trumpet museum in new york.

today? it is gorgeous out today. >> it is. >> the winds have been nice and light. they'll pick up a little bit this afternoon and a great deal of sunshine and very comfortable temperatures. as you look at the day planner we're expecting highs to get close to 70 this afternoon. so going outside for a walk, should be just fine. upper 60s to around 70. this even ago few clouds will roll in -- evening a few clouds will roll in from the west. low 60s by 9:00 and a lot warmer tonight than this morning. when lows got into the lows. had a freeze -- 30s. had a freeze in a few spots. 32 martinsburg and -- martinsburg and culpeper, south of town southern maryland had a reports in calvert county look at charles county with mid 30s at la plata. 36 at andrews and this afternoon we have warmed up nicely. dry air light winds, boy it heats up well. already to 65 in town and annapolis. it's 66 and the tappahannock airport. 64 reedville. 67 fredericksburg and even the

shenandoah valley enjoying the sunshine and lower 60s. and you can see on the michael & son weather camera just the fair weather cumulus clouds are popping in the sky. we'll call it mostly sunny and 65 at reagan national with a west wind at 11. it will be 10 to 15 for the afternoon and the air is dry. look at the dew point 30. you got a 35-degree spread between the temp and the dew point. that's giving us a relative humidity of only 27%. but there is some warmer temperatures off to our south and west in the middle of the country. in fact west texas could be near 100 today. and some of that heat is just a little bit is going to inch our way tomorrow so i'm expecting our temperatures to get into the mid 70s but it's going to be a price to pay. we've been watching this northwesterly flow. the big storm for monday is in canada. behind it still bringing in the northwesterly jet stream and you can see the disturbances in minnesota and wisconsin riding through chicago, headed over to areas in southwest michigan. northern indiana. this is all moving toward the mid-atlantic. one disturbance missed us to the south this morning and

we've been left in a great position for today but into the nighttime hours you'll notice the clouds increasing from the west. here we are at midnight. watch what happens by tomorrow morning. as the rain moves in, so we could have a wet morning commute. midday even some showers possible, thunder, through about lunchtime especially south and east. west will start to clear out for the middle of the day. enough sun in the afternoon, mid 70s here and 4:00 and you'll notice one last little bit of showers coming through here during the overnight. that boundary is going to cool us down a little bit more as we head to friday. our forecast, today 70ish. going to be really fine. tonight 40s and 50s. won't be anything like this morning. tomorrow, mid 70s but a few showers and storms especially in the morning through midday. 76. cooler friday. 64. the weekend not looking as warm new. 60 on saturday. maryland day, 10:00 to 4:00 i'll be out there in the journalism building. could have a couple of showers late and a shower possible on

disease. >> right. i had secondary colon jigit and i was digged about the fierce -- diagnosed around the first year of high school when i still lived in dallas texas. i went through some ups and downs in dallas. surges, procedures and -- surgeries, procedures and was even a patient at a hospital in minnesota and this was during my time in law school. graduated and was able to get well enough to actually move to d.c. to work for the obama administration. and i was the press secretary for the united states trade representative ron kirk. then things just started getting worse for me and i started getting repeat bacterial infections which is basically having a very aggressive bacteria like e. coli in the bowels and ducts. i was put on the liver transplant list may 18th, 2011. >> you got your donor when? >> november 6th, 2011. it's a bless. >> you know what i understand

that you communicate with the donor's family? you know about the donor. >> i do. my donor was an absolutely sweet gorgeous 12-year-old girl named caitlin hughes. at the time her brain hemorrhage was just what she ultimately died of. she was living in martinsburg, west virginia. and what's so special about her is that at the tendser age of 11 she told her parents if anything was to ever happen to her she wanted to be an organ donor. i know it's very touching. when she had the brain hemorrhage the morning of friday, november 4th. from what i understand she suffered from migraines. and her family suffered from migraines as well and they actually thought the bad headache was another migraine and it turned out to be much more than that. they ended up taking her to the local hospital there in martinsburg and actually medevaced her to children's hospital when they realized she had a bleed on her brain. >> you're living today. we salute her family and this
