in groups. they don't know who this guy is. they want people safe. they want to stop him before attacking anyone else. and they are offering a $25,000 reward. this is moving so quickly that this reward is just for the murder of gary. but again, now we have these two other attacks that may be connected. back to you at the broadcast house. >> obviously someone very dangerous on out there. bruce leshan, thank you. we're going to switch to something a little lighter and a little happier. tonight is the night that the washington redskins fans have been waiting for this entire off season. >> and the biggest redskins fan that i know, derek mcginty, he's in new york city where the skins are poised to pick the qb, robert griffin iii in the first round of the nfl draft. hi derek. >> hey ladies, how are you? yeah, they are posed to draft robert griffin iii as he is known. and now we know that we are in
5:02 pm
the nfl draft of 2012. we know it's the emmys and the oscars, all rolled into one here in new york city. but we have to say for the washington redskins, it's a much bigger deal. you can see they will be getting it. the other fans have showed up for the very big day for the redskins. and i have been racking my brain, trying to think historically. has anything like this ever happened to the redskins before? i mean in 1994, they had the number 3 pick in the draft. that was a bad idea for the quarterbacks. they ended up with a guy like this. he turned to be a better congress member than as a quarterback. in 2005 we drafted jason campbell, but he was 25th in the draft. the anticipation is nothing like what we've got today. this is a great year for quarterbacks. and the redskins issue they have mortgaged everything to get the -- redskins, they have mortgaged everything to get the best of the bunch. this is a big deal, folks. this is history. >> welcome to prime time. and the nfl draft is just a few hours from kick off on the biggest brightest stage in the
5:03 pm
world. but tonight, those words, they will go straight to the heart and hopes of the redskins fans who believe drafting robert griffin iii will mean welcome back to the big time and in the brand new franchise quarterback. with all the lights, crowds, even the football music on the red carpet. it's not just for us. well maybe they should be. >> yes. >> i know what you're thinking. who will actually show up for the nfl draft? obvious, there are reporters like me. after that, it's pretty much dos in jersey. and it did not take long for them to find that burgundy and gold. >> yes, absolutely. when i get inside, i'll be going crazy. >> and they drove up here. they will come every year. >> what's different about this year? and what are are you saying in that number two figure? in the face of the franchise today. >> yes, no shortage of rivals. even though you could get the sour grapes. you're a giant's fan. >> yes. and that will happen last year. we didn't even have that right here.
5:04 pm
>> it was a fluke. well, it will not be a fluke this year. >> why do you need to help them? >> well, there will be so many and we hate you too. >> i have three words for you, rg iii. >> that's two words and a number. >> yes. >> in the way you're the voice of sanity. >> yes. we are not interested in hearing it today. >> no. but we will be listening to them today. and that will be an exciting thing for you. robert griffin iii will be picked up in, well, i guess, about two to three hours now where they will be drafting number two in the draft. i believe that he will be picked 10 to 15 minutes later. and his coach, they will drop on by. we'll have a chance to talk to him about why he believes that robert griffin iii will be the great quarterback. and i'm derek mcginty reporting

5:06 pm
>> yes, absolutely it's not fair. and the system is falling apart. but at the same time, it has to be upgraded. so you've got to live with it. >> they are not happy or surprised by the second rate hike in the past two years. and things have not improved. >> and now say say that the money will be raised to help close that $100 million budget gap. they will need to provide the additional views. and the bus services. >> and today's vote, it will come after months of debates. and no one saw the fair increases harder than the others. and nearly 50 disabled riders packed the headquarters, the head of the vote. urging the board to reconsider. >> and that will affect our homes to fix the lives with what is going to doctors and, you know, the grocery stores. >> yes. it could happen to you.
5:07 pm
and that's all. >> reporter: they agreed to reevaluate at a later date. now, they will impact all metro access riders. >> and they need to implement the fair justice by july 1. and we had to act it today. >> the maximum charge for metro access will remain with $7. but that average ride will still go up because of the system-wide increases. >> i can go anywhere i want. and without metro access. and i'm tracking more for you. >> reporter: now, all these fare increases will be going into effect in just over two months on july 1. back to you. >> all right, kristin, thank you. well, new allegations, they are surfacing up of the alleged secret service misconduct overseas. the cbs affiliate are reporting similar inappropriate activities that may have taken place in this area and ahead of the presidential trip there. we have the latest for you from the white house. >> reporter: the cbs affiliate

room. peggy fox has been covering the case since the start, joining us live with the latest. peg? >> reporter: well lesli, this girl was actually the first one who went through that before the very next day. there was a slumber party and those next to girls say that they were abused by michael gardner, but detectives did not find out about this first girl until the other two girls came out and told their story and they started interviewing all the girls who had been at the slumber party. and so this girl today, she sounds a bit rehearsed. her account is still very disturbing. loud claps of thunder over the gardners home on june 16 scared their 10-year-old daughter. she asked her father, michael gardner to come into her room. and that night, the 10-year- old's friend who was sleeping over said that gardner sexually assaulted her while laying next to her on the floor. she said, "he kind of went in a
5:11 pm
cycle, stomach, back, vagina, stomach, back, vagina." that he touched her with the hand, "sneaking it underneath my clothing, touching me." he asked me if it felt good and i said no. she kept rolling on her stomach and kept touching her with his own daughter feet away. she was my friend, i didn't want to disturb her. and i was scared. i laid there for a while because i was a little bit scared and in shock and then went back to sleep. she didn't tell anyone about what happened until five days later. she said, "i did not tell my mom because i was scared and embarrassed and i did not know what her reaction would be." the next night she went back to the gardners for a slumber party where two other girls said they were sexually abused by michael gardner. dna was collected from those girls pajamas and underwear. and a dna expert testified today, that the dna found on

the underpants, it has an extremely high probability of matching with michael gardner. one and 20.7 times probable with a match and an unrelated caucasian male. now, when the defensecross examined the girl on the stand today, they may have raised some reasonable doubt with her story. when she was at the police department being interviewed by a detective, the detective left the recording devices on and the child said, oh wow, did i just help solve the case. and so we may hear that statement again when the defense presents its case tomorrow. i'm peggy fox, reporting live in arlington. back to you. >> another tough day of testimony there, thank you. coming up on 9news now, the virginia tech police officer who was shot to death in the line of duty honored here in washington. topper? yeah, we'll let you know if we have been done with showers because the cold front is still to the west. and also, it will feel more
