politicizing bin laden's death. tara mergener for cbs news, washington. >> mitt romney will be in new york today with former mayor rude ji giuliani and a -- rudy giuliani and a group of firefighters to mark bin laden's death. the associated press says the united states military is under reporting the number of times afghan soldiers and police have fired on americans and other foreign troops. an ap investigation, the associated press investigation found nato reports every time a coalition soldier is killed by an afghan in uniform but it doesn't report the number of times an afghan soldier or police officer wounds a u.s. or a nato troop or even misses his target. just last week two u.s. soldiers were wounded when afghan policemen shot at them. both afghan policemen were killed in that incident. but it was not reported to the international coalition. the white house has confirmed what we've known for years. the united states military

routinely conducts bombings on terror targets in foreign countries, including pakistan and yemen using unmanned drones. the white house counterterrorism says the targets are chosen based on the threat that person presents to americans. civilians who are bystanders have been killed in these attacks. heel said the strikes are -- he also said the strikes are legal. secretary hillary clinton is on her way to china today. they refused to say whether dissent chen guangcheng was at the u.s. embassy. secretary clinton said human rights issues will be a part of her discussions while in china. a fugitive is wanted for assaulting an officer. he was last seen at the barnes and noble in tysons corner

saturday around 12:30 p.m. officers chased him but he escaped. investigators say the 39-year- old todd corrado is armed and dangers and not to approach him. call fairfax police if you have any information. closing arguments in the michael gardner child sex abuse trial could begin as early as today. the falls church businessman is accused of molesting three young girls who were invited to his daughter's slumber party last summer. gardner took the stand in his own defense yesterday. he said on one occasion his daughter cad him to come into her -- asked him come to come her bedroom when a loud thunderstorm was coming through but he repeatedly denies touching any of the other girls in an inappropriate way. prince george's county police are searching for the people who burglarized a home in adelphi, maryland. the home is being rented by students from the university of maryland. they were home yesterday when three masked men broke in. the suspects got away with some money and illegal drugs the students had inside. >> he took my weed and my rent

money. >> in case you missed what he said on the money, he said, "they took my weed and my rent money." the suspects also took cell phones, a laptop. none of the students were hurt during the burglary. your bill is going down. baltimore gas and electric customers, you should save about $54 a year. the rate change starts in june and is expected to last through may of next year. it is 4:34. here's a look at some of the other things making news. an epa official who suggested the agency was about to crucify law breaking oil and gas companies is now out of a job. he resigned his post in a letter to the epa administrator. he headed up the agency's six regions -- sixth region. he made headlines last week when oklahoma senator showed a video of one of his speeches from 2010. in it he compared enforcement methods to the romans when they

were conquering the villages saying they would crucify the first five men they saw, as an example. in his resignation letter he said he regretted those words and doesn't want to be a distraction to the epa. a new york highway where seven family members were killed after plunging 60 feet into a ravine has inadequate guardrails. an out of control suv hit a curb and went flying over the guardrail on sunday. it felt six stories to the ground killing everyone insides the vehicle. the tallest building in new york is once again in lower manhattan. >> one world trade center has surpassed the empire state building. manuel gallegus has more. >> reporter: the recovery in manhattan reached new heights. the first column of the 1

fuel bill. delta's planes burn through 3.9 billion gallons of fuel. it cost the airline $11.8%, 36% of its operating business. the d.c. council is expected to approve a plan to repay district work information furlough days they were forced to take last year. this plan would cost the city $22 million. it's about $2 million more than the plan rejected two weeks ago. the plan would pay back tens of thousands of works by converting four unpaid holidays in 2011 to paid days. three northern virginia counties topped this year's forbes list of the wealthiest counties in america. they are loudoun county, virginia ranked first with a median annual household income of $115,000 fall willing right -- falls right behind falls church, virginia at $114,000. fairfax county came in at $105,000. other ones, los alamos county,

>> yeah. we think you're great for making the smart choice, there. take some rain gear if you're leaving shortly. the next couple of showers we'll -- couple of hours we'll have showers and storms. i think this may be the most activity part of the day. we may end up with not too much more showers and storms. yesterday we managed to squeak into the upper 60s late in the afternoon. but today we should be a good 10, maybe 15 degrees above that. so low 80s is what i'm thinking. want to start you off with a look the at the radar. we are looking at an area of showers and storms coming from pennsylvania sliding through the region this morning. you see the lightning down in virginia. you see lightning up into maryland as well coming into northern virginia. but it's really off to the south. i want to focus on the metro washington region. right now we're dry but the next hour or so this will push through. the heaviest is south and west

of town. here's loudoun county and lease burning. the line extending to frederick. this has gone into frederick county there. even a heavier shower along 70 not too far if new market there between mount -- from new market there between mount airy and frederick. coming down 15 toward point of rocks and lucketts and northern loudoun county. the heavier showers are coming through. they've weakened a little bit. by far the heavier stuff we're watching is well south of this. from new market, virginia over toward areas just west now of madison approaching culpeper. showers and storms marching off toward the east. so this is going to get into culpeper, into orange and this other stuff may be tracking north into fauquier county in the next half-hour or so. so our forecast then this morning, the bus stop forecast, i think you have another two, three hours. most of this will be south and east of washington. 50s and 60s and mostly cloudy skies. your sunrise 6:10. today the early shower or storm

could still linger at 8:00. by noon we're looking at mid- to upper 70s. low 80s at 4:00. that should be the high for the day as winds turn toward the west and northwesterly this evening with 7 # at 8:00. -- with 78 at 8:00. going out tonight, plans this evening, should be pretty good. 61 right now in d.c. mid-50s in hagerstown. they've had the rain there but mid-60s off to the south where it's dry. locally we're looking at 59 in rockville. bwi as well. upper marlboro is at 58 degrees. 59 from springfield and fairfax and sterling. showers around lovettsville and leesburg this morning. 61 at national. the humidity stands at 75%. we've got a cluster of storms in oklahoma now moving into missouri. baseball size hail outside of st. louis on saturday. it's this cluster of storms hitting us this morning. with the separation, i think we'll be okay for much of the day but a couple more chances for showers and storms later on tonight and tomorrow.

is the seventh most disliked airport in the country. bwi is the fourth most loved airport in the country. passengers appreciate aircraft pungsialty and speedy -- punctuality and speedy security lines. >> we agree. maryland may need some federal help cleaning its air. that's the finding of a new report by the maryland department of the environment. the study finds a percentage of days with good or moderate air quality rose to more than 91% last year. but the report goes on to say maryland isn't likely to meet stricter new ozone standards because much of its air pollution comes from out of the state. cell phone users will soon get free text alerts about severe weather warnings when in maryland. the system sends the warnings through towers through every cell phone in range of that tower. all the major u.s. carriers are participating in the program. the majority of children with asthma are still being exposed to secondhand smoke. the centers for disease control found 53% of children with asthma are exposed to
