back here at home, a more serious story coming up on 5:31. closing arguments are expected to get under way today in the child molestation trial of michael gardner, the falls church businessman accused of molesting three young girls who were invited to his daughter's sleepovers last summer. monday gardner took the stand in his own defense. he said on one occasion his daughter had asked him to come into her bedroom when there was a loud thunderstorm moving through but he repeatedly has denied touching any of the girls in an inappropriate way. we also are following a developing story this morning in the district. >> two men were stabbed to death overnight, one in northeast washington and the other in northwest. 9news now reporter delia goncalves is live at the northwest crime scene along florida avenue. good morning, delia. what more do you know? >> reporter: well, a lot of developments since we last spoke you to about half an hour ago. i'm going to step out of the shot so we can get a better look and kevin king can zoom in. we're about three hours into the investigation and crews are
5:32 am
beginning to tow that crash vehicle away from the scene here on 5th and florida. you can see that we also have crews who are cleaning up the debris after this car apparently crashed into a corner restaurant here on 5th and florida. let's take a closer look at some video that was just fed into our newsroom a short time ago so you can get a closer look at what the scene looked like when our crews first arrived. police are telling us the driver, the victim of a deadly stabbing, crashed his car into shaw's tavern. he was unconscious in the car, not breathing. he was apparently stabbed in the neck and we're told he later died just a short time later at howard university hospital which really is just a couple blocks away from the scene. police are still trying to determine exactly what happened. it is unclear where at this point this driver was stabbed because as you can see, it appears he was driving his car and he was driving apparently away from the crime scene.
5:33 am
if you come back live to our camera here on 5th and florida, you can see this light pole here that he apparently carried and crashed into. police are taking a close look at that light pole to determine in which direction the car was traveling from. you can see and i've taken a close look at the corner here, there are no physical signs of light posts being here so it appears that that light post was carried if a different location. so police will be here for some time. they have opened at least one lane here on florida avenue to traffic but still it is very slow going in the area as the rain continues to fall down and police continue to comb this scene for more clues as to exactly what happened in this deadly stabbing. we'll have much more information in a half-hour. back to you, mike, andrea? >> all right, delia goncalves reporting live if northwest. -- from northwest. at 5:33, time for another your money report. >> jessica doyle is back. dads are picking kids over careers now. >> that's right.
