good morning again, i'm andrea roane. >> and i'm mike hydeck, monika has timesaver traffic but we start with howard first. >> some hail up to an inch in diameter torrential downpours and a lot of loud thunder. >> we didn't get it near my house. >> if you got it you know you got it. you can sleep through it for the most part. as of today we could have a repeat in spots, in fact i think the conditions today for strong storms are better than the last couple of days, by 5:00 mid 80s with those thunderstorms approaching from the west. that could have hail or some even gusty winds. damaging winds in the stronger storms. here were the storm last night coming south and east. this morning a big cluster of storms in we've w starting to produce one lone thunderstorm not far from petersburg in western areas to the west. visibility there with some haze at three miles and fog a problem. warrenton, culpeper, orange, half mile even down to zero. baltimore's improved to half mile and even though the

tappahannock airport half mile visibility. some patchy dense fog is really going to be the biggest issue other the next couple of -- over the next couple of hours. 59 in easton and 66 here in d.c.. into the 80s but anytime after about 3:00, 2:00, strong storms possible west to east. monika? we have a couple of minor incidents around town in prince george's county and i'm happy to say that for the most part, they're cleared up. and if you're planning to head over to the beltway, first of all there was the accident on the inner loop at the bw parkway here in green belt. we'll take a live look outside right now. and all lanes were cleaned you have -- cleared up. things are looking great as you head southbound here on the inner loop past good luck road to the vw parkway. back to the maps this time southern maryland. looking great rut 4, route 5, route 301 all of the major corridors heading up to the beltway and adams air force base into oxon hill. a live look inside the beltway. pennsylvania avenue at minnesota avenue, on our traffic land camera no issues to report downtown this morning

over the potomac and anacostia river crossings as well. coming up in my next report, an update on virginia roads at 6:11. mike? this morning police in howard county, maryland are trying to figure out what happened inside a church. >> in the end one woman was shot dead and another one was wounded then the suspect took his own life. >> all of this happened thursday along rogers avenue in ellicott city right near where routes 29 and 40 meet. delia goncalves is there live with the latest as we've been saying all morning delia, church is a place of sanctuary, not a place for murder. >> reporter: of course. and that really is what folks have talked about and expressed and that's why so many people are stunned you know a lot of people consider the church a very sacred place and to consider that any crime no less murderer happened inside the church is just shocking for a lot of folks. and it's indeed a horrible, horrible crime. we have been able to contact the church leaders about what happened inside the sanctuary

here. but we can tell you it was a janitor who alerted police to the horrible crime. police say it's unclear if the victims were church employees or church members. but the two women were discovered inside st. peter's episcopal church office. one was dead when police arrived. we're told the second wilson valdez rushed to -- was rushed to shock trauma in baltimore still listed in critical condition. police later found a man in the nearby woods. he was dead from a self- inflicted gunshot wound. detectives discovered the weapon lying to the knot body. >> we're looking into the very real pocket that he may be linked to what happened at the church. my understanding is that a custodian came into the office inside the church building where he an out and -- ran out and called 911. >> reporter: again folks in the quiet community of ellicott city simply stunned that this happened inside the church. still, lots of unanswered

questions including who are these people and why did this happen and of course, why did this crime happen here inside the church? andrea back to you. >> thank you delia goncalves with that update from ellicott city, maryland this morning. the judge presiding over the murder trial in the south capital street shootings will responds to a note today from the jury. it was given to the judge yesterday afternoon after another day of deliberations, we do not know what was included in the note. five men are facing murder charges for the 2010 killing spree. it left five people dead and several others hurt and it was one of the who's crimes in the district there -- worst crimes in the district in years. a commuter alert this morning. more delay on metro this weekend is affecting everyone who rides the green line. starting at 10:00 tonight, there will be no service between green belt and fort totten. that part of the line is going to stay closed through sunday night for track work and also affect anyone using that massive parking ride lot at green belt to get downtown.

there will be some shuttle buses to get you around this but add about an hour to your travel time. 50 minutes at least because of the work yellow line trains heading north will stop at mount vernon square. 40 speed cameras snapping tickets at $40 a pop have brought in quite a haul in prince george's county. $3.2million in the last eight months, cameras went up in the county last august and according to the figures released by the police department, they have snapped more than 200,000 photos of drivers with a lead foot. in prince george's county most cameras are near the schools and only on between 6:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m. 6:05. jessica doyle is watching your money. and she's yelling liar, liar pants on fire. >> this time, it's not just any rank and file employee. it's the head of a company that apparently lied on resumes. >> padding the old resume apparently even ceos are being accused of doing this. there's a proxy fight with

yahoo and an activist shareholder firm. they say the ceo for yahoo lied on the resume. the official resume for scott thompson says he holds a bachelor of science and accounting but the degree is only actually in accounting. yahoo is calling this an error and is reviewing the matser but it's an error thompson made for years apparently. a lot of people do pad their resumes and even websites that are out there devoted to telling you how to pad your resume and get away with it. it's true. do google search. they're out there. a lot of them. the consequences of getting caught are pretty bad. if you're currently applying for a job, offers can be withdrawn and you can be fired for lies uncovered during the original job search and don't think hr is checking up? according to a revent survey by career builder, approximate 37% of companies research job candidates on various social networks sites and they're really, really digging into what you have out there.

at the washington national cathedral. starting today the annual flower mart is going to be there and it includes a chance to climb to the top of the cathedral towers the highest point in washington. joining us live is the chair of the flower mart 2012. it's nice to have it back, good morning vicky. >> good morning. >> what can people expect when they head out there? >> yes, we have loads of flowers and plants, we have gifts for mother's day. we have fantastic food. we have entertainment that's free going on all day. we have indoors the international flower show. jamaican artists, carvers and artisans, outdoor pottery exhibit. >> wow that sounds like a lot to offer. was this -- effect was this suspended last summer with the earthquake or already underway and worked out fine? >> we were able to get last year's flower mart off. today's 73rd annual one starting but you know the earthquake just devastated our

morning, howard bernstein with you and today is a severe weather alert day. the threat for strong to severe storms will be with us later this afternoon and this evening. this morning quiet except for some patchy fog. it's going to be warm too. our temps will rise to about 80 by lunchtime and highs in the mid 80s but anytime after 3:00, 4:00 west to east coming in from the shenandoah valley heading over toward us we've got that threat for storms which could be with us through the evening hours as well. in sports d.c. mayor gray declared this natitude weekend in washington. that means it's time for nats' fans to pack their park. >> that's because the hated phillies are coming to town and if you look at the standings the inside are in -- nats are in first place in the nl east. >> the last time the two teams met washington swept the four game series even with their ace pitching on the phillies' side. ha ha. in fact the nats were 10-8 against philly last year. the nats wrapped up their series with the diamond backs

welcome back. howard bernstein with you, 6:29 on this severe weather alert day. this morning the birds are singing and some sun glinting off the capitol dome under partly sunny skies but it's this afternoon and this evening that has us concerned for the threats of some strong to severe thunderstorms. we had some last night which produced some hail in spots an inch in diameter and also the

torrential downpours and storms also when threose career could have winds of 58 miles per hour or -- they're severe could have winds of 58 miles per hour or stronger. it's the middle to latter part of the afternoon through the evening hours that we have to watch out for the threat of severe weather with highs in the mid 80s around here. you notice the storms last night which rolled which you on a couple of -- through on couple of clusters, quiet this morning. in west virginia they're being hammered there generally alodge and west of i-79 and a little bit of fog in spots. bart mar a half mile visibility. warrenton zero mile visibility and even martinsburg to cumberland some patchy dense fog. this afternoon and this evening with the net for severe storms. inside now to monika with timesaver traffic. all of the traffic problems are concentrated on the east side of town namely in greenbelt. where there's been a pretty serious accident two cars and a

delia goncalves has more. delia? >> reporter: andrea, you know residents are still stunned at this crime. i just spoke to a resident on his way to work. he said what's going on? i came home last night and i live up the hill. he came home around 11:00 last night and saw some police tape and assumed maybe there was a downed tree or wire. he was just saddened. head bowed. couldn't believe it when i broke the news that there was a horrific rim here. he knows -- crime here. he knows the secretary of the church and hopes she is not involved. all we know so far two women were shot found inside a church office. they were discovered by the janitor. one woman was dead we're told when police arrived just before 5:30. the other woman we're told by police skill listed in -- still listed in critical condition at baltimore shock trauma. police believe a man found dead in the woods from a self- inflicted gunshot wound is likely responsible for these shootings. >> my first thought was around

on the internet. leslie waffen spent more than 40 years working for the administration and he was in charge of maintaining the audio recordings. the historical audio recordings. david golden donated a one of a kind recording of the 1937 hindenburg disaster and he was pretty surprise today see it for -- surprised to see it for sale on the internet. >> i cant imagine what it was going -- couldn't imagine what it was going on the iway because it was a unique -- ebay because it was a unique one of a kind record. 6:36. jessica doyle is watching your money and your job. >> indeed. the unemployment numbers are coming out in less than two hours. >> right the expectations are good but not great. the big expectations for those reports. and if you're looking for a job you know it's still is not easy to find work out there. digging into the april unemployment numbers due outed 8:30. wall street expects to see around 163,000 new jobs created last month. the unemployment rate should hold steady at 8.2%. today's numbers are expected to

be an improvement from march when growth slowed to just 120,000 but it will be far below the average number of jobs added from december through february if we come in at expectations. a lot of companies have been trying to do more with fewer workers and they may be running out of gas which means they might have to start bulling up the -- bulking up the staffing. all that extra work is really stressing out workers. a new survey from wright management finds that two out of three people say the stress level at work is high. 24% rated stress at work as medium and only 11% don't really feel all that stressed out. wright management says employers should not ignore stress levels because they impact productivity as well as worker health and really stressed out a lot of people call in sick for the day and that means jobs -- >> health care costs go up. the whole nine. >> of course when the job market comes back strong those people are taking off. >> yeah. >> thanks jess.

the fog. low 60s east. crofton, millersburg, bwi 61. low 60s just about everywhere except for reagan national at 64 degrees. as we look outside on the michael & son weather camera just a few clouds to the northeast this morning with 64- degrees and a light south southeast wind at 5 miles per hour. dew point though it's above 60 so the air is all juicy. a look at the storms this morning front up here. some moisture also coming in from our south and west. and just a matter of time with the daytime heating that we'll see these thousands and storms develop. again we should be okay through the middle of the day. it's the afternoon and evening hours that pose the greatest risk for us. 86. tonight we're in the 60s and get partly cloudy after the enoing storms. -- evening storms. 80 tomorrow. couple of storms possible saturday. best chance will be south and southwest of d.c.. by sunday though we look great around 75. still look nice monday and showers could be here by late tuesday. andrea? our time is 6:46. tomorrow, prince george's county hosts its 13th annual
