about 70 degrees. it's 5:00 a.m. this thursday morning. i'll get it right. here's monika with time saver traffic. >> just don't say it's monday, howard. that's all we ask for. we know it's thursday. good morning, everybody. this thursday morning we've had a lot of minor accidents all over town. i'm going to start off with the southbound side of i-270. we're just getting word of an accident southbound right around route 80 in urbana. also in gaithersburg. an accident on brink road between goshen and route 124. that one just in. we'll take a live look a little further south right now. if you're planning to head over here on 270 in clarksburg, you're going to be okay down toward germantown and rockville. let's go back over to the maps and this time we'll go over to the west side of the beltway. no problems between the gw parkway and 66. 66 is fine through falls church and another live look if you're planning to head over to the beltway north of town no delays yet on the the outer loop at new hampshire. in my next report, another look at the accident in urbana at 5:09. back to you. >> thank you, monika.

with less than six months to go before the november election, president obama publicly announces he's had a change of heart about same-sex marriage. >> the president said in an interview he now supports the right of gay and lesbian couples to marry. delia goncalves is live outside the white house. boy, this sure caused quite a stir yesterday. good morning, delia. >> reporter: absolutely. good morning. on both sides of the issue, for and against, folks are really passionate about what the president said on gay marriage. the president's announcement came, you know, after his v.p. made some very strong statements in support of gay marriage and among rumors that his gay supporters were getting increasingly frustrated. in fact, some supporters even threatened to stop financial support of the president, but the historic remark backing gay marriage by president obama have reinvigorated some voters while others are simply outraged at what appears to be an about face. the president has always said he has struggled with the issue

of gay marriage and called his opinion evolving. he still believes states have the ultimate say on gay marriage. >> i think my faith is strong enough and my marriage is strong enough that i can afford the civil rights to others, even if i have a different perspective or different view. >> i do not favor marriage between people of the same gender and i don't favor civil unions if they're identical to marriage other than by name. my view is that domestic partnership benefits hospital visitation rights and the like are appropriate but that the others are not. >> reporter: mitt romney goes on to say his opinion on gay marriage has not changed since he was governor of massachusetts. his opinion, he says, has not evolved like obviously president obama says his opinion has evolved on this issue. polls say many americans are evolving just like president obama and now support gay marriage. only a handful of states, including maryland and the district of columbia have

legalized gay marriage. coming up at 5:30, we'll have more local reaction. back to you. >> delia goncalves reporting live from outside the white house. this is the week law enforcement agencies around the country honor those they've lost in the line of duty. in pikesville, maryland state police held their 18th annual fallen heroes ceremony yesterday. the newest name on the memorial is trooper shaft hunter. he died last may. his patrol car struck a tractor- trailer parked on the side of i- 95. the 39-year-old marine corps veteran is survived by his parents, his wife and their six children. chief cathy lanier will be around for a while. she got a five-year contract extension. mayor gray said people have more confidence under her leadership. the officers have gone five years without a contract or cost of living increase. the governor of maryland has announced a budget deal

heading into next week's special session of the general assembly. lawmakers weren't able to agree on a spending plan during the regular session that ended last month, and that put in a motion a budget that calls for more than half a billion dollars in cuts starting july 1. now governor o'malley says the new probably includes an income tax hike on individuals who make more than $100,000 a year and households that make more than $150,000 a year. lawmakers are expected to approve it. it is 5:05. time for the latest your money report now. jessica doyle is here with today's headlines. another debbie downer for wall street. >> the dow at 13,000, that's a distant memory. there's not a lot going on in the news today that could really change the tone. the problem here is analysts are saying greece is most likely going to exit the euro at this point. it could have a domino effect. spain could go next. checking the numbers on wall

street, not good news. the dow stands this morning at 12,835, dropped 97 points in trading yesterday. the nasdaq was off by 11.5 and the s&p 500 dropped by more than 9 points. so much for that honda drivers victory over the car company over gas mileage. a california judge has overturned a nearly $10,000 small claims judgment against honda. earlier heather peters won the judgment after arguing the automaker misrepresented that her civic hybrid could get 50 miles per gallon. she ochted out of a class action settlement giving owners,between $100 and $200. >> what do you get when you put arptist andy warhol with elvis? about $37 million. his double elvis sold for $37 million. it shows a cowboy gun slinging elvis with a shadow of the singer in the backgrounds. south they are by's had --

looking toward the weekend. right now we go to monika. on the southbound side of i- 270 crews are on the scene of an accident at route 80 in urbana. past that in clarksburg you're fine into germantown and the point where the lanes divide. i'll have more on maryland roads coming up in my next report at 5:17. back to you. here's what's making news now at 5:10. a photo appears to show the wreckage of a russian made passenger jet on the side of a cliff. the jet was carrying 48 people, including potential buyers and journalists when it dropped off the radar shortly after taking off yesterday. a settlement has been reached in the civil suit over that deadly duck boat crash in philadelphia. the deal was announced two days after the wrongful death trial started. the families of the two hungarian students who drowned in the july 2010 crash will divide $15 million. the survivors will split $2 million. the winds have calmed down a bit across tucson after a

massive dust storm wednesday afternoon. the gusts were more than 50 miles per hour pushing dust clouds through the air and lowering visibilities to near zero which made driving pretty difficult. the dust storm also caused a few flight delays there. nothing that bad but we do have some gusty winds of our own to worry about today. howard has details on that. plus some nice days at 5:15 in his seven-day forecast. >> coming up at 5:30, reaction to president obama telling abc news he's -- news he supports same-sex marriage. >> the endangered species decided that nothing but the penthouse view was good enough. we'll be back.

good morning. welcome back to 9news now this thursday morning, 5:14, friday eve as we like to call it here. we're looking forward to a good weekend but we have to get through today. >> today is not going to be bad. just a little windy as you were alluding to. hopefully the allergy count will come in at lower levels. the tree and grass pollen is still doing a number. >> rain washed take out. >> it helped a little bit. even yesterday the grass poll encame in high but less than on wednesday -- tuesday, excuse me. then the tree pollen came in moderate which is still a little reduction. still too much for many of us here who suffer with this sort of thing. >> i sound very deep. >> i don't know if i feel your

pain but i'm certainly feeling my pain on this thursday. here's the bus stop forecast. it's a little breezy in one or two spots. the winds will be picking up the next few hours. we'll call it partly to mostly sunny with sunrise in 45 minutes. 6:00 a.m. straight up temperatures in the 50s. i think you'll need a jacket this morning. not just for the little chill in the air but also with those winds which by noon will be northwest at 17. could be gusting 125 or even more -- gusting 25 or even more than that. by 4:00 68. going to be close to the high for the day. we'll get near 70 later this afternoon. by 8:00 p.m. we're back in the low 60s. winds will start to come down a little bit tonight. they'll be northwest 5 to 10. as we dip into the 40s in most areas by tomorrow morning. check out the dopplers over the last few hours. we're watching all of the rain really pull away from us. just about done out of rehoboth. going to clear atlantic city in another 20 or 30 minutes and continue up to the north and east pulling away behind it skies have cleared and colder air working its way now down toward us. notice the 50-degree readings

if gaithersburg and laytonsville. 54 for crofton. 54 also in columbia. out west we're down to 50 in fairfax. 51 centreville and still holding on to 54 both at lovettsville and leesburg and fort belvoir to the south. on our michael & son weather camera, got good visibility now that we've cleared out this morning with 57 degrees. partly cloudy skies. the wind at the moment only 13 miles an hour out of the west, northwest but i expect that to be picking up as well. high pressure is going to build in behind this storm system. but until it gets here, that difference of pressure from the low to the high, that's what's driving the wind. we may just see a little piece of upper level energy behind the system spin out one or two sprinkles here, mainly in the mountains this afternoon. cooler air moves in tonight. temperatures as i said early will dip into the 40s, in fact lower 40s north and west. it's going to be a chilly, chilly night. then tomorrow still a little bit breezy but a nice looking friday. highs should make it up into the low 70s before we get milder for the weekend.

raised more than $1 million. that's why many political cynics are calling obama's evolution a calculated political ploy. as many of you know, the president had been on the fence about gay marriage for some time saying he always thought civil unions would provide enough benefit protection to same-sex couples though in 2004 when obama was running for senate, he said his faith convinced him marriage was between a man and a woman. yet now the president says his opinion has evolved. >> now just the president affirming our relationship and affirming our family means a lot. >> many recent polls now a majority support same-sex marriage. >> reporter: however, the archdiocese of wart released its own statement saying in part, quote, the word "marriage" describes the exclusive and lifelong union of one man and one woman open to generating and nurturing

6:00 p.m. temperature of 67 degrees. just a slim chance that one or two of you may see a sure but that's going to be confined to the mountains later on. there's the rain from last night pulling away quickly. we've cleared out here. a few clouds up across western maryland and in the higher country of west virginia and also southwestern pennsylvania. some of the temperatures like in oakland and harrisonburg and luray have dipped into the 40s. it's 52 in culpeper and gaithersburg. still upper 50s from patuxent naval air station and salisbury. as far as rain, we heard from charlie in catlett. he had a half-inch. anywhere from a quarttory half- inch generally from this. a good soaking rain. we're not really doing much to help the long-term deficit. we're still about five inches in the hole but at least we're maintaining at this point. outside on our michael & son weather camera, you see the skies generally clear behind the capitol dome. 57 degrees. winds west, northwest at 13. that barometer is down 29.64 but it's going to rise.

>> since early this morning we found that traffic has been very heavy on the major thoroughfares in certain spots. and we've had several separate accidents. the accident on the beltway north of town inner loop before georgia avenue has been cleared. so that's good news. on the southbound side of i-270 same story at route 80 in urbana but that one left slow traffic getting by. now a disabled vehicle southbound on the gw parkway right here near route 123 and park police tell us that is in the roadway so be aware of that. let's go outside live into the district. connecticut avenue at florida avenue northwest. just out of this camera shot we're getting word of some fire activity so be aware of that. connecticut avenue at florida. we'll take you to a live look as well on the other side of town if you're planning to head northbound on i-95. several long slow stretches out of quantico, dale city and here in springfield heading for the beltway. another graphic right now metro escalators once again out at foggy bottom. buses are available. the station remains open. coming up in my next report, we'll take another look at area

roads at 6:00. making news now coming up on 5:50, a law enforcement official says a federal probe is under way into who leaked information about an al qaeda plot to bomb a u.s.-bound flight. they put together an underwear bomb with no metal parts. prosecutors today plan to wrap up their case against former democratic presidential condition dat john edwards and -- candidate john edwards and they say they do not plan on calling his mistress to testify. he's accused of using campaign money to hide hunter and their child. the house will vote on a budget for the 2013 fiscal year but president obama is promising to veto the republican-sponsored bill which cuts funding for his health care law as well as for programs for food stamps and meals on wheels. without a new agreement, automatic cuts of all federal agencies start january 1.

tuesday's primary results from west virginia's democratic presidential primary are kind of shocking. >> when we heard this, we went huh? yes, the president finished first but the second place finisher to president obama got a lot more than just a few write-ins. and he's in prison. our bruce leshan went to west virginia for a firsthand look at the discontent there with this administration. >> reporter: how do you feel about president obama? >> i'm not satisfied. >> reporter: nobody was expecting president obama to carry west virginia in november but the primary vote has to be embarrassing. it was a protest vote that saw convicted felon keith judd take 41% of the democratic primary votes against a sitting president. >> the islamic religion is not only just anti-christ but it's anti-freedom for the american people. >> reporter: you think the president is a muslim? >> i know he is. >> reporter: some voters
