forestville. brown's fiancee is ebony norris. >> wesley was the man that i dreamed of. >> you hear people talk about great people all the time and some are good, some are bad. wes was truly that great person. >> reporter: brown's partner that night, fellow trooper carl peoples, says he now faces a lifetime of regret. peoples said he was set to arrest williams who had just urinated on the crowded restaurant floor and had taken a swing at peoples outside, but brown, the younger trooper who always looked for good in people, talked his partner out of it. >> he said carl, let him go. just let him go. he said he's drunk. he didn't mean any better. we can do something else and we walked back inside. i told him sometimes we just can't let him go. we shouldn't let him go and he came back and committed the act he did commit. >> reporter: throughout the legal process cyril williams hasn't had much to say and today finally when the judge gave him a chance to speak, to apologize, to tell his side of the story to say anything, cyril williams remained stone cold silent.

in upper marlboro, scott broom, 9 news now. >> lawyers for williams offered no arguments today during sentencing and say they will appeal. the sole survivor and passenger in a chevy chase fiery crash is now suing the people who helped save his life. 19-year-old rico richardson was a passenger in this stolen car with three other people. richardson and his attorneys held a press conference today announcing the $10 million civil suit against the montgomery county police department. richardson's lawyers say the details of the crash two months ago differ a great deal from what the police say happened. they say the officers were negligent and purposely rammed their police cruiser into that stolen car. >> this was not a life or debt matter until the police made -- death matter until the police made it so. >> montgomery county police say officers did not touch that car and the drive crashed into a tree on his -- driver crashed into the tree on his own. police seized half a

million dollars of marijuana from a house in laurel on cross timbers court in howard county. investigators found a huge marijuana growing operation down in the basement, 341 pot plants along with sophisticated growing equipment. uni posted bail and is now under house arrest. federal prosecutors say they busted a major cocaine ring in northern virginia. 28 people have been arrested in the operation that allegedly wired more than a million dollars from this country back to the suppliers in the honduras. authorities say the cocaine usually came into this country hidden in shoes and decorative wooden frames and it happened on a regular basis. prosecutors say several honduran suspects lived in fairfax county and used couriers to distribute the cocaine to dealers in virginia and maryland among several other states. new details emerging about a prince william county elementary school principal arrested last week.

insidenova.com is reporting that jenny enrique is accused of buying iphones, telephones, curtains and other items with a school issued credit card. she was principal of kirby elementary in wood ridge until she was arrested may 3rd. now she's charged with embezzlement. police launched an investigation after seeing an anonymous tip. -- receiving an anonymous tip. a virginia judge tossed out drunken driving charges against the former head of the faa. the move came after the judge saw video of randy babbitt's left turn that prompted police to pull him over in the first place. the judge said the officer had no good reason to make the stop and called it a mere hunch. the 65-year-old babbitt resigned his post back? december after news of that arrest went -- back in and after news of that arrest went public. all right. it's potholepalooza but this time in northern virginia, sky 9 over the scene in annandale where massive potholes opened up on the inner loop of the

beltway. the location is in the same area where construction is underway on those beltway express lanes. bus fires, train derailments, faulty brakes, broken defibrillators, metro officials responded today to a laundry list of safety problems and kristin fisher was tracking this story. >> reporter: i'm kristin fisher in washington where metro has announced major changes after a string of accidents on metro trains and buses. last month two metrobuses caught fire just five days apart. both were caused by high pressure hydraulic hoses that either came loose or weren't properly installed and both buses were the same model, the orion vi. all 94 of them in the fleet were taken out of service. at first the plan was to fix them, but now metro's gm says they're buying 95 new buses to replace them. >> we did not want to put them back on the road because we did not want to take the risk. >> reporter: another day, another accident, this time at the rosslyn metro station, a

construction zone into a wall of hope and dreams. encouraging people to grab some chalk and fill out the public bucket list are these words, before i die. >> before i die i'd like to write a book. is that i'd like to make a dent in the world. >> i want to sit on a glacier before they all melt away. >> give my parents back some money they spent for my college. >> reporter: some take it very seriously. >> i want to stay sober. >> reporter: good for you. many people write about love and marriage. >> we're engaged. >> reporter: roger and rod, a couple of five years, are hoping to soon get legally married in their homestate. >> we're from washington state and we passed marriage equality this year, but it's now for referendum, so we're hoping that it passes in november and we'll be able to get married. >> reporter: the majority of these hopes and dreams have to do with making the world a better place, finding cures for cancer and hiv and helping the less fortunate. >> we ought to do more for other people. >> i think this is good for people to see what they want and then strive for it.

republican presidential candidate mitt romney today responded to a story in the

washington post that suggested he once bullied a gay classmate back in high school. romney said he didn't remember the incident and said he did not believe the classmate in question was gay or at least not then. he did offer a general apology for my pranks he might have pulled off in high school. >> i'm sure like other folks i've done stupid things in high school and if i offended anybody by that, i, of course, apologize and that's probably i think a very serious point and that's one i'd underscore. >> romney spent much of the day campaigning in nebraska and said if elected, he will work to dismantle the federal government's controversial healthcare reform. he also pledged to work toward making the country more energy independent. the stage is being set for another star studded multi- million dollar fundraiser for president obama. it's a hollywood a lister at the home of one of the president's higher profile supporters, george clooney. that event is being dubbed star- maggeddon.

it's an unsettled picture as we head towards the end of the week. this afternoon it will be cold, wet and windy across most of scotland. we're under the influence of low pressure. >> recognize that weatherman? yeah, did i, too. it's prince charles doing -- i did, too it's prince charles doing the weather on the bbc. he and his wife got their chance to try their hand at forecasting during a visit to the studios in glasgow, scotland, and apparently anyone can do it. it's just not that tough. >> it's not. i'm here. of course, it's not that tough. how could it be? tell you, what it looks really nice. you're going to like the weekend. it's going to be kind of cool tomorrow and steel breezy and

then the weekend -- still breezy and then the weekend looks very nice all wait through mother's day. a live look outside, it's pretty much crystal clear, our live weather cam brought to you by michael and son. temperature made it to 70 today, another day below average, our third so far this month. 65 currently, winds still kind of brisk, sustained wind northwest at 15, pressure rising at 29.82 inches of mercury. in fact, we will look at the wind gusts gusting to 22 downtown, gusting to 26 at andrews and look at this latest gust, 37 mile-per-hour wind gust towards petersburg in the last hour. that makes these temperatures feel a little cooler than they actually are, 62 bethesda, 63 in rockville. look at that. go up 270 and it's 59 in gaithersburg. so when the sun goes down about 8:00 tonight, temps will really fall fast, 62 reston, 61 in leesburg and we're looking at 64 in beltsville and 63 out toward davidsonville.

here's the deal. warming up offer the weekend, chilly tonight -- over the weekend, chilly tonight, breezy and milder tomorrow. you'll need your shades and at least a jacket in the morning and warmer saturday. saturday just looks some kind of spectacular. for tonight clear skies, breezy and chilly, awarn-blanket night, 42 to 50 -- a one- blanket night 42 to 52 and the winds continue 10 to 15. by morning sunny, breezy, chilly, need a jacket, 40s and 50s, winds still northwest 10 to 15 and by afternoon mostly sunny, breezy and milder. keep the shades handy, high temps low 70s and winds still northwest at about 10 to 15. we'll break it down. chilly start, no doubt, 42 to 52. by noon sunshine, mid-60s to low 70s and by evening upper 60s to low 70s, a pretty nice day. the next three days look at saturday, hard to beat, 78, pure sunshine, 77 for mom, a slight chance of a sprinkle.

heterosexual people that shouldn't be allowed to marry given how they subsequently treat their spouses and children. to all the people opposed unless you want somebody critiquing whether your love and life are worthy, why don't you live and let live? that's a very good question. perhaps we'll see some response in tomorrow's mailbag, but in the meantime michelle says that i was way off course yesterday when i said that republicans probably were to blame for blocking a bill that would have locked in low interest rates for student loans. the problem highs with our dysfunctional government -- lies about our dysfunctional government that is incapable of doing the right thing, not specifically with either political party. actually i think this mess is president obama's fault because he vetoed the initial republican bill which would have taken care of the matter. you know what, that the system is dysfunctional i cannot argue, but you have to acknowledge the democrats had enough vote to pass their measure that would have taken care of matter except republicans blocked it with a filibuster. here in mcginty's mailbag we
